Lara Croft/Alex Danvers, banter/flirting during battle?
“I know that you’re gay, Danvers, but can you please try to shoot straight?”
Lara’s voice cut through the pounding of Alex’s heart in her ears and the distant chaos of the war zone they found themselves in. Her reflex was to roll her eyes, and she did, despite the amused smile that found its way on her lips.
“Yeah? Why don’t you try not being a straight-up bitch and keep firing, Lady Croft?”
Lara smirked back at her as she dropped her empty magazine to the floor. A click and a pull later, she rose from the back of the wooden boxes they hid from to lead the way to find the closest exit. Alex covered her six, sharp hazel eyes focusing in the cloudy darkness of the ship they were in. Dust and rubble stained their clothes. Blood dried on Alex’s knuckles. Lara’s gash on her left forearm looked worse than the other brunette made it seem, but that could just be their years on jobs like this making such injuries look normal.
Then again, nothing about this mission was normal. She and Lara knew it was suicide made for two, but the agency made the call and often soldiers simply obeyed.
Not that either of them was given a choice of whom to be stuck with, but at least it had been with Lara Croft. Alex would never say it out loud—if only because she hated seeing that smug smirk on Lara’s pretty face, another thing she would never admit—but Lara was an outstanding agent, one even better than Alex on her best day.
“This bitch is trying to find the exit, Danvers.”
Alex glanced at her. Her right hand held the gun they stole earlier from the first room they infiltrated, and on her left is the device the agency gave them, supposedly to help them leave the maze of a ship once they complete the mission. The screen flickered. Lara glared at it.
“Well. Try harder,” Alex shot back. She returned her attention to her surroundings, just in time to catch the minutest of movements and the distant sound of boots on the ground. At the first clear sight, she fired two, burying bullets in the uniformed man’s knee and chest.
“Thanks,” Lara said over her shoulder. She tried the door on the next turn and when it wouldn’t budge, she kicked it down with an angry huff. It slammed wide open and Lara greeted the men in what looked like a control room with bullets in their heads.
Her accuracy was almost terrifying. Alex couldn’t help but be impressed, but she masked it with a shrug as she bent down to pat the dead men’s bodies for ammunition.
“You’re welcome,” Alex replied. “Now please find the fucking exit.”
“So bossy,” Lara muttered as she headed to the control panel. “Is that a kink?” She started setting up whatever it was she attempted to do and Alex continued with her task. They could use all the weapons they could get, after all.
“No,” Alex said with a roll of her eyes. “Is your brattiness one?”
She didn’t have to look up to hear the smirk in Lara’s voice when she replied. “Wouldn’t you want to find out?”
A creak forced Alex to finally look up. Her eyes met the cold gaze of a man in uniform, the barrel of a gun staring down at her, but before she could raise her own weapon—before the man could pull his trigger—a gunshot echoed in the room and he fell lifeless in front of her.
“I’d hate to see you go down before I can even ask you out for dinner, Danvers,” Lara said with an amused shake of her head. Alex blinked at her, but Lara said nothing, just returned to her task on the control panel.
“What—”
“Okay.” Lara interrupted her with a firm nod. Picking up the device and heading for the door once more, she beckoned Alex to follow her again. “Three hallways and two doors from here and it’s the open goddamn sea. Let’s just hope someone had the foresight to send a rescue boat considering they sent us on a fucking ship.”
Lara led the way, not bothering to take it slow now that the end to this shitshow was over. Alex followed her, hand on her gun but attention elsewhere—a dangerous state of mind, considering where they were.
What the fuck was she supposed to do with the information Lara just dumped on her?
Four gunshots resounded straight ahead, landing on metal with echoing clanks. Lara cursed under her breath and hid behind a wall. She dealt with them with two clean shots before continuing on with their escape.
Lara glanced at Alex. “When we get out of this—”
A crashing sound to her left interrupted her. A charging man in a black uniform made a beeline for them. Alex met him with a punch and an annoyed growl. She needed to hear what Lara was going to say. Her fist throbbed, but she watched him fall to the ground with a heavy thud. She gave him a kick for good measure, satisfaction replacing her frustration as he groaned. Alex looked up at Lara again, amusement in her eyes and a smirk on her lips, despite the dirt and blood on both of them.
Alex sighed. Fuck it. “When we get out of this, how about a drink, yeah?”
“On you?” Lara shot back.
“Aren’t you the billionaire between the two of us?”
“Fine,” Lara relented. They reach the final hallway, a single door keeping them away from escaping this wretched hellhole. “But you’re paying for the next date.”
Alex just raised an eyebrow and kicked open the last door. “Deal.”
i’ve been pretty much dead but i’m looking to write again so if you send me a wlw ship and a prompt over at my ask i might write a drabble for it just to get something going with me again.

God I forgot how much I missed and loved those two in your road trip fic (I re-read that first and ugh my heart ❤️). This fic was so soft and such a perfect addition to the road trip fic. Pretty sure I melted into a puddle when they both said "I love you" and Kara kept reminding Lena that it was real; not to mention when Kara kept thinking "I love you" about everything Lena did ugh so fucking good
