How Not to Foster a Safe Kitchen Environment, but Make Your Girlfriend Happy: A Guide by Gwen
"Pancakes" for @merlinbingo
bbc merlin fans come here i can give you something (what is it) it's pain (oh) yeah
Andrew Minyard being a comedian/sarcastic piece of shit/bastard for 3 books straight:
- “Congratulations are in order, I suppose! Since I have none to give, I will tell the others to respond appropriately.”
- “You are not very bright. Typical of a jock.”
- “How many knives do you carry?” “Enough.”
- “A liar who practices occasional honesty. Clever. Keeps people guessing. Very effective. I would know. I do it myself, you see.”
- “Is your spine the spine of the righteous? Are you trying your best to step on my toes because you’re feeling the tragic weight of the holier than thou?”
- “Hey Pinocchio, time to run. This one’s for you.”
-“Tick tock, says the clock. Get out of my room.”
- “It wasn’t me. Ask my doppelgänger?”
- “You have Joan of Exy over there. Make do without me”
-Wymack looked at Andrew. Andrew looked over his shoulder as if checking for a third goalkeeper.
-Andrew was systematically tugging clothes off their hangers and dropping them on the floor.
- “You have this way of making people want to kill you”
- “Who am I supposed to call?” “Nicky, Coach, the suicide hotline, I don’t care”
- “You could occasionally grow a spine”
- “Hey Jean. Jean Valjean. Hey. Hey. Hello”
- He slug a stripped inmate’s outfit over one shoulder and detoured past Neil on his way to the front of the store.
- “I’m not in trouble. Oh captain, my captain.”
- “Don’t make me hurt you. I don’t want blood in my ice cream.”
- “Neil, you wouldn’t know what to do with a god-fearing minister. You can barely stand to be around Renee. There’s no way you could last a sit-down with Luther. He’d end up exorcising you when you snapped.”
- “A tear for your discomfort” Andrew said, completely unsympathetic.
- “Is your learning curve a horizontal line?”
- “What about Abby?” “You can’t bandage a zombie and she wouldn’t let us execute the infected”
- Andrew refused on the grounds he wouldn’t wish you on anyone except a mortician.
- “What are your doing with a Maserati?” “Driving it”
- “The only trick is figuring out how to pry Kevin away from the court” “I have knives,” Andrew reminded him.
If you insist
I know I’ve posted about this before but I will literally never get over the fact that Merlin deadass screams a spell full blast at Lancelot and fucking lights the weapon in Lancelot’s hand on fire in huge ass flames and then when Lancelot is like “FYI bro I know you have magic” this himbo legit has the audacity to be like “wow man, Lancelot is one tricky sluether, can’t believe he uncovered my immaculately guarded secret” like omfg bro I am forever HOWLING
M/A Parallels: 1x01/3x05/4x13/5x13 aka ‘there’s nothing special about Arthur Pendragon (a few seasons later) THERE’LL NEVER BE ANOTHER LIKE HIM’ a thrilling saga by Merlin
listen I didn’t come here to ship it lightly ok I came here for it to consume my soul
"I always thought you were the bravest man I ever met. I guess I was wrong."
If I’m honest, the first time I watched this scene I hated it. It seemed like the stupidest thing Arthur could possibly say to Merlin. So childish. Surely a full grown man could come up with something more mature to say?
And then I realized that this was the only thing Arthur could say to Merlin to portray all his emotion. Arthur is in a deep conflict between his need to be a strong king who does not depend on anyone, and his need for Merlin. Merlin has never abandoned Arthur before, I mean - for christ’s sake they’re hand in hand, they go everywhere together - life threatening adventures, Arthur’s dates with his wife, the tavern (!) - the two are inseparable. Arthur never has to say I need you here with me because Merlin is always here. Arthur cannot live without him, and he knows it. He knows it far too well than he is comfortable with. That’s why he constantly tells Merlin that he’s useless and stupid rather than show how much he really appreciates him.
And now, as Arthur goes to his death, his almost certain death, there is only one thing that he is sure of: that Merlin will be beside him. Merlin and the knights. He doesn’t even expect his wife, the apparent love of his life, to go, to be by his side, only Merlin and his brothers in arms.
Except Merlin isn’t coming. Arthur might as well have lost the use of his legs. Merlin is his crutch, the one person who will hold him and stand beside him no matter what, the only one who really knows him, the only one who he really trusts, the only person Arthur really wants to stand beside if he’s going to die. Arthur needs him, wants him, must have him but he can’t say it, he’s not allowed to: he’s a king, a king preparing to go to battle for his Camelot, and he’s not allowed to depend on anyone - especially not a manservant. It would be against everything Arthur believes about freedom to force Merlin to come with him.
But even that is beside the point - everyone knows Merlin would not abandon his Arthur for anything and so there must be something else going on (just as Gwen says to Gaius later on). Whatever it is Merlin must do, it is more important than Arthur for the first time in their life together, and this cuts Arthur so deep that suddenly everything starts pouring out. At the prospect of never seeing his Merlin again, Arthur suddenly needs to tell him just how much he means. He needs to say: I need you. If anything he wants to scream it from the top of his lungs: BUT I NEED YOU! But he can’t say that. King. Independent. Strong. So just how can he convey so much love in so few words?
There are four things Arthur has built his kingdom upon, four things he values the most: valiance, loyalty, honor, honesty. It is needless to say that there is nobody more loyal than Merlin; and there is absolutely nobody Arthur trusts more than his useless manservant. And no matter how he hides it, Arthur respects him more than anyone else. Who could Arthur possibly respect more highly than Merlin? Who could there be who has more honor than the manservant who goes well beyond his line of work for the love of Camelot? Risks his life over and over again when he should just be cleaning boots and making beds? No, to tell Merlin he has honor, or loyalty, or is an honest man is pointless. Merlin already knows. But there is one thing that Merlin might not know, that Arthur tells him he lacks constantly: bravery, valor, courage. Courage is the mark of Camelot’s knights, something that stands tall in the heart of Arthur’s kingdom. To tell Merlin that he’s brave would mean Merlin embodies everything Arthur believes in most deeply in all his heart. Merlin would embody the spirit of Camelot itself. And Arthur tells Merlin he is the bravest of them all. He can’t let him go without revealing, in sure words, staring him in the eye, how much Merlin means to him. Arthur gives him the highest of praise, opens his heart just for a moment, before it breaks to pieces. Arthur’s heart breaks and because of that, his next words can’t help but be I guess I was wrong. This is Arthur’s only way of telling Merlin how much this is killing him. How much it hurts. He can’t be weak so he must be offensive.
Arthur was only so cruel because it crushed him that Merlin was not going with him. It was confusion and pain, disorientation and disbelief. He can’t even look Merlin in the eyes as he says it. Why? Because he’s only saying it out of spite, out of hurt, and they both know it. And there Merlin stands, not taking his sight off Arthur, praying at him with his eyes, hating himself for doing this to his king no matter how necessary it is.
However, possibly the most painful thing in the whole of this episode is that Merlin’s absence can be heard in all of Arthur’s words. Every thought became a doubt and every conviction becomes empty because the real hero of Arthur’s life is not beside him. It is actually scary how limp and lifeless Arthur becomes.
But the beautiful thing is that they both redeem themselves later on. This time Merlin says the words that reveal his heart. The first thing Merlin does after regaining his magic and testing it by making a butterfly (which especially echoes the tavern scene where Merlin held the dice in his hands in the same way) is to telepathically connect to Arthur and say: Arthur I am sorry I had to leave you, I didn’t want to. I hope one day you’ll understand why. Your plan is a good one and you may yet save this kingdom….
Ever since Merlin left Arthur’s chambers, those words have been desperately hanging on his lips - the only thing he wants to say to him. He soothes the doubts that Arthur has been having, doubts not even Gwen could soothe. After Merlin has finished Arthur practically throws his wife off himself in his haste and does exactly what Merlin has told him to without a hesitation or a doubt. He says: “It didn’t feel like a dream. It felt….” Real. Merlin’s warning was real. That Arthur knows in his heart. Can feel it in his gut - instinct. Suddenly, he knows Merlin did not abandon him. He always knew, but now he has proof. He doesn’t even care how Merlin gave him the message - there is no real rational explanation other than magic, but so deep is his trust and love and faith in Merlin that he just gets up and goes. Merlin gives him the courage and conviction to get out of bed and go fight an unexpected battle. It is the first time we see Arthur alive again, the first time we see him with hope. And it is with pride unbounded that Merlin watches Arthur make his speech to the knights through the crystal, because although they are apart, they are always together, two halves of a whole, believing in one another and making each other strong.
Alexander Vlahos was right - this is a love story between Merlin and Arthur; because if this cannot be called love, nothing can. And I’m done.
I feel like Merlin is the Perry the Platypus of Camelot. Fighting crime in secret behind everyones backs, assumed to be simple and uninteresting, and people can't recognize him without a specific article of clothing.
"Oh its just a servant"
*puts on scarf*
"MERLIN the servant????"
This would also mean Morgana is the Doofenshmirtz of Camelot

my thoughts on Merlin and the ending.
some comments and reviews i read, stated that they’re left unsatisfied because there’s no battle between merlin/emrys and morgana. and how the last battle “wasn’t epic at all”.
but what if,
Merlin wasn’t a story about magic, Merlin wasn’t about war and revenge, Merlin wasn’t about camelot and albion.
what if, Merlin is simply a love story between merlin and arthur. more like, merlin’s devotion and love to arthur. and how he fight to keep him alive and safe for so many years.
it’s not about the greatest sorcerer in the world, it’s simply about a boy with so much power, who sacrificed everything, even his own life, for arthur.
he can choose to be bad like morgana, he can brag to the world about his true power and recieve the credit he deserve. but he choose to serve arthur and stay by his side.
and in the end of the series, there’s no epic battle, there’s no victory, only merlin and arthur. and how they finally realize how much the love and need each other. and in his last moment, arthur finally admit that not all sorcerers are bad, including merlin, and that merlin brought peace to camelot.
The show absolutely is about Merlin and Arthur and their love to me 🌕☀️ This is why, 1500 years later, Merlin is still there, waiting for him to come back, while Camelot is long gone.
ah, yes. the " i only appeared in one episode but was enough to steal your heart and then i died" squad

REBLOG IF YOU THINK IS OKAY FOR A BOY READ AND/OR WRITE FANFICTION
I’m trying to make a point to a friend
REBLOG
REBLOGGING this again bc FANFICTION! ISN’T! GENDERED!
I CLICKED REBLOG I INSTANT I READ THE TITLE
WELL DUUUUUHHHH
Of course!! I’d love to meet (and/or date ❤️) a guy who appreciates fanfiction!!!
I’m rebloging this for two reasons:
1: FANFICTION CAN BE WRITTEN AND READ BY ANYONE. GENDER DOES NOT INFLUENCE ANYTHING.
2: people STILL can’t seem to wrap their heads around the fact that I am a MALE. Yes, I’m a MALE WRITER. People harass me for things like that constantly, but I’m here to say that me being male has nothing to do with my writing style, or the types of fanfiction I read.
M/A Parallels: 1x10/3x10
#okay but he either lied to merlin about hating that kind of life #OR #he started having those dreams of leaving camelot after 1x10 #and jfc when did merlin started being part of them? #he has said several times that camelot is his life #he’s proud of his kingdom and to be its prince/king #but that makes me wonder too #why he’s always on trips with merlin #i don’t think he’s lying when he says he loves camelot #but maybe sometimes he wishes for a more simple life #with #merlin #yeah he said it was because merlin can do all the hard work but the WAY HE SMILES WHEN HE SAYS THAT #like it’s something he has thought more than once #him as a farmer and merlin by his side #they’re so domestic already i wonder if arthur sometimes stares at merlin while he’s cleaning or making the bed #and thinks ‘yeah i want this’ (via tsundereslasher)
do you ever think about that time arthur said he hadn’t seen merlin smile in 3 days? i love that line. i live for that line. it is the epitome of “no homo.” it’s like, “bro i love your smile and i count the hours in between seeing it because it brightens my world and makes my day better but as a friend bro” all said in a very wistful, loving, concerned tone of voice, as though arthur’s longing alone could make merlin smile again. idk who this show thought it was fooling but it wasn’t me
you can’t come into my house if you think Andrew Minyard doesn’t deserve a happy ending
