A hitch in the plan
Unfortunately, I am going to have to delay this project until September. I'm working 60 hours a week at the minute, when I was told I'd be only working 40 and as a result I cannot devout enough time to this right now. See you guys in September!!!!
The Boy Who Lived - In The Film
The Boy Who Lived
As stated before I will be splitting into this post into a selection of subcategories, as follows:
The Basic - A chapter summary (I just couldn't avoid my old school work instinct of "must-write-chapter-summary")
At First Glance - Written - to the best of my ability - as if I'm reading all this for the very first time... there will probably be a lot of obvious questions.
A Closer Look - A more detailed section drawing from the chapter as well as all my potter knowledge.
The Characters - The characters who appear in the chapter. I'll try to keep big master posts of all the characters which gets added to each time new stuff is learned about them... kinda like a data base (I hope).
Magical Artefacts - Any magical objects that get introduced or mentioned and what gets said about them.
Magical Creatures - Any magical creatures that get introduced or mentioned and what gets said about them.
In the Film - How this chapter is portrayed - or not - in the film.
Pottermore - How pottermore deals with this chapter
Your Thoughts - What you guys have posted and shared with me about this chapter
So all those hyperlinks should be working now (if they're not please let me know!!)
This project will next be updated on Friday 8th August: The Vanishing Glass
The Boy Who Lived - The Basic
In this chapter, the boy who appears to have inadvertently saved the wizarding world from 11 years of hardship is left with the most gruesome, unexciting family who chose their "most boring ties" for work and delight in discovering exactly what Mrs Next Door gets up to.
"Mr and Mrs Dursley, of number four, Privet Drive, were proud to say they were perfectly normal, thank you very much."
Everything about the Dursley's lives seems 'perfect' - by their description anyways - until one day owls start flying during the day, cats start reading, and groups of people start wandering around wearing cloaks, and not a charity collection tin in sight!
Whispers of "the potters" are flying left right and centre, and Vernon Dursley is desperate to keep his wife, Petunia, deaf to them all because of an ancient family feud about her sister and "her kind".
By nightfall, Vernon has tiptoed his way to confirming that Harry Potter is indeed his nephew and is just about overcoming his struggle to get to sleep when Privet Drive get's a visit from a man the likes of which it's never seen before.
Albus Dumbledore reaks of magic, from his flowing white beard (conveniently tucked into his belt) to the way he manages to appear out of no where and control the street lights. Dumbledore greets the patient Professor McGongal, who has been sat, in feline form, on guard outside number four all day await Dumbledore's news.
But Dumbledore decides to take the conversation scene route, stopping off at sherbet lemons and ear muff before revealing what events have taken place over the last 24 hours which will change the fate of the wizarding world forever - or at least for the next 7 books.
If this chapter opened with a prime example of dull ordinarity it closes with no more than the polar opposite as a giant descends from the air on a flying motorbike and with him he brings the eponymous hero, the boy who lived, the chosen one, Harry James Potter.
More on this chapter can be found here.
This project will next be updated on Friday 8th August: The Vanishing Glass
Posts will start going up tomorrow at 10am British time but most wont go up until I get off from work later that evening.
Getting ready for Friday And there's a lot more where those are coming from!

What an introduction!
Hogwarts? Quidditch? Deadly duel? WIZARD?!
And what about the mysterious, bearded, be-speckled man who appears to be wearing a carnival/circus costume emblazoned with some kind of runes. And why is he holding a lighter?
This blurb offers an enticing hand to any would be reader (or parent of would be reader - sometimes it's hard to forget Harry Potter is after all - or at least started as - a series of children's books) and before now I've never really looked at it. I was introduced to Harry Potter by my dad, who read it to me and my sister as a bed time story, so I never read the blurb. But for a premier publication from an emerging author this story really does feel like it's going to grab the reader by the neck and take them on an adventure they'll never forget.
My next update to this project will be on Friday 1st August: The Boy Who Lived.
A Taster of More to Come...
Guess what! You all thought this project was starting this Friday, right? Well I have good news for you! I will be unofficially beginning this project tonight, yes you read right TONIGHT with a post about the blurb of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.
Watch this space!
Working on my The Boy Who Lived thoughts to pass the time on my two hour train journey. Who's ready for Friday?
Working my thoughts together to pass the time on this two hour train ride to Scotland. And yes I am pretending this is the Hogwarts Express.... (And because I'm relying on my phone siganl to post this it may get posted twice...or not at all) Who's getting excited for Friday?
Fan Art Prompts for 'The Boy Who Lived'
Ok so I know I've asked you guys for some fan art but I thought I'd give a bit of a stronger prompt, so here's some of the things I'm looking for:
Uncle Vernon:
He was a big, beefy man with hardly any neck, although he did have a very large moustache.
Aunt Petunia:
Mrs Dursley was thin and blonde and had nearly twice the usual amount of neck.
Prof. McGonagall's Cat Form:
It was on the corner of the street that he noticed the first sign of something peculiar - a cat reading a map.
Mr Dursley collides with an excited wizard:
'Sorry,' he grunted, as the tiny old man stumbled and almost fell. It was a few seconds before Mr Dursley realised that this man was wearing a violet cloak. He didn't seen at all upset at being almost knocked to the ground. On the contrary, his face split into a wide smile and he said in a squeaky voice that made passers-by stare 'Don't be sorry, my dear sir for nothing could upset me today!"
Well those are a few. There's loads of great stuff you can take from this chapter to draw, if you want to... please.
Too much detail!
Ok, so I have just about finished my first read through of the first chapter while taking notes and straight away I'm noticing that I am going into waaaay too much detail, which is going to lead to very long posts. Soooo, instead of doing one long post about each chapter I'm going to do lots of little posts, well average size posts which will look little compared to what I could write. I'll do a big master post and then divide it into sub-catergories like: -At first sight (As if reading the first time) -A deeper look (How what we learn later affects the information presented in the chapter) -The Characters -In the film -Your thoughts (all the stuff you've either sent to me or posted in the #potteragain tag collected and collated and referenced and credited to you in one post)
And then I'll queue all these posts to go out on Friday and all be hyperlinked together and what not so it's all smooth... hopefully. So if you're reading along get posting your thoughts before Friday when I post all!
I've also put together some fan art prompts which I'll stick in another post to help get your artistic juices flowing.
This is a serious endeavour... I'm taking notes and everything.
Time to start reading! (I may or may not end up live tweeting my thoughts here)
