He was insane- literally crazy- if he had even an inkling of the belief that she was going to let him get away with this; and he was even more so if he thought she wasn’t up for a challenge.

That was his problem- always underestimating her.

Suddenly, the young girl lifted her arms and shoved him back away from her face, surely only succeeding at pushing him back a foot or two, even if she had caught him off guard. “Don’t you DARE tell me to shut the fuck up.” Irritated or angry weren’t words to describe her right now. She was hurt and worried for him, and those emotions were stronger than any rage could be. 

“You don’t know a single thing I have been through, and I have watched- and I refuse to watch another person I love lose their cool to drugs. I abso-fucking-lutely refuse!” 

She never spoke like that, she never raised her voice. She never even furrowed her brows, but right now, all those “nevers” were happening at the same time. 

“You have a very severe problem. I don’t care if you use drugs for comfort or on occasion- regardless, it is very, VERY, bad for you. Do not look at me like I don’t understand. I don’t need to understand in order to care about you!”

And somehow, she didn’t even cry.

He was about to snap. Alexei was about to let loose, push her up against the wall & tell her she was wrong –– prove it to her. 

But, he couldn’t. Not after those words –– not after she’d said she cares.

He just stands there, eyes half-lidded & glaring at her. No one ever... says they care. It’s only through action, right? This isn’t what he’s used to –– no woman has ever taken any time to go and say that to him. No one but Zippy, of course, but she’s a different story entirely…

Long fingers brush back ebony locks, jaw wrenched shut & shoulders set in frustration. Why is this so irritating? Why is this so confusing? Why the fuck is he not just walking away by now? 

All Alexei can do is stand there, indignant & torn. He can’t scream; he can’t even speak. Any semblance of words he attempts to form just come out as garbled nonsense.

          It’s not that easy, it’s just.. not. So why is he getting so angry about it? Is it the drugs, or maybe he just doesn’t appreciate it from someone as innocent as Larka; someone who’d gotten everything she’d ever wanted ( in the material sense at the least ) ?
