Sammy nods at the question, a look of achievement plastered across his features. “ oh, yeah, should’ve seen me mate, I was like Mike Tyson or something. ” he laughs at his own shit joke, picking up his shot and knocking it back. “ yeah, it’s still fucking standing. Bit hard to fully take down, y’know ? ”
Sammy’s eyes follow the direction indicated, shrugging. “ I already tried man, shits dry as fuck. It’s a rented tux as well, but I wonder if I ask real nice they’ll still give me my money back. ”
"yeah, i’m sure mike tyson’s real worried about the competition," he replied, shaking his head at the thought, "street lights everywhere shaking in their boots."
his gaze then looked at the damage on his shirt again, "nah, you’re not getting that deposit back. not unless you plan on telling ‘em you got jumped saving a puppy or some shit. even then, it might be a hard sell."
"you’re leanin' into it though," he added, nodding toward the whole... situation. "but if you start goin at it with the bar stools, i’m not dragging you out. that’s between you and whatever you decide to fight next."

Tati managed to get away from her husband for a bit, not that he was forcing her to be at his side, more like she was clinging to him like a lifeline. These types of events, they brought out her worst anxiety. Dumping back a mixed drink, she hoped the buzz would kick in and take away the burning in her chest. She couldn't help but feel watched. She looked around the room to make sure Antonio was still in eye sight before she ordered another drink. She overhead someone next to her going on about the recent murder. "Tragic, is it not? But I seriously doubt Josephina had anything to do with either of the murders." she said will an eye roll.
jace wasn't sure what to think. two murders. josephina found alive. a ball. murder was something that he was used to, something that was pretty much part the club's way of life. but this was affecting everyone. "wasn't thinkin' she did, but, now that you mention it," he said, as he gave a shrug, "kinda a coincidence that she showed up again and someone else is dead." he didn't really think that, there was something else, this was something else, but he wanted her to think he did. "who do you think has somethin' to do with it then, if it wasn't her?"

Sammy didn’t particularly want to go to this event, but he’s self-aware enough to know his FOMO won’t allow him to not attend. He does, however, decide he will not be showing up until there’s enough substances in his system to make it semi bearable.
Thus, by the time he shows up, he’s already walked into a lamppost that has given him a nosebleed, and now there’s blood on his shirt. It’s a fucking rented tux as well. STILL, he’s not one to let that ruin his night, and so with a boyish grin and a near skip, he’s at the bar ordering a shot. A laugh escapes his lips, nearly manic, an attempt to mask the bubbling anxiety. “ got into a fight with a street light, I fucking won though, don’t worry. ”
jace clocked sammy before he even reaches the bar. hard not to since he looked like a walking stereotype for a member of the club. not that he really cared if it left an impression with anyone, people were just gonna have to deal with the fact that they were never going to be as neat and clean as the santoros. he shook his head at sammy's explanation, eyes assessing the damage on his face and shirt.
"yeah?" he says, voice dry, trying to not show his amusement, "looks like it put up a decent fight," he couldn't even tell if he had actually ran into a pole or if he had just come from getting punched in the fucking face. "street light still standing?" he asked, glancing toward the door like he might go check.
he then nodded towards the napkins on the bar, "probably gonna wanna deal with that before someone decides you’re part of the night’s entertainment."

the air outside was cooler, quieter. like stepping out of something she couldn't quite name. lila had lasted longer inside than she thought she would, longer than she should have. the music, the lights, the way people kept talking about everything except what actually mattered, it sat wrong. first miles, then daisy, and still, champagne glasses clinked like nothing had changed.
she stepped onto the balcony, resting her hands lightly against the railing, exhaling like she could finally breathe again. the door opened behind her not long after. her shoulders tensed before she turned, softening just slightly when she realized she wasn't alone. "sorry," she said gently, stepping back half a pace. "i didn't think anyone else would come out here." her gaze drifted back toward the doors, where the noise pressed faintly through the glass. "it's a lot in there," she added quietly. "everyone keeps acting like this is still a celebration. like two people didn't just..." she stopped herself, the rest of the sentence catching somewhere she didn't want to go. "do you ever get the feeling that people already know more than they're saying?"
jace was debating skipping all of this together, between daisy being found and the fact that he hated wearing fancy shit. damage control might've been needed, hell just helping morale might've been needed at this point. things felt unstable right now. at least the drinks were enough to entice him to come and keep him at the ball for the most part. but nothing was going to stop him from getting some fresh air when he had an itch to light up.
"needed somewhere to smoke," he replied, giving her a shrug, as he took out the pack from his pocket, as he listened. he hadn't really thought about it like that, but he should've. he agreed. "yeah," he muttered, as he gave her a nod, "that’s kinda the problem, isn’t it?"
"whole place feels like a lie." but it always did for him. he never really fit in with this type of crowd anyways. his idea of a fun night was shooting some whiskey and destroying shit. "and you don’t just throw somethin' like this after two people drop dead and expect it to stay pretty" he added, knowing that people wanted answers, "not unless you’re trying real hard to keep people from asking the right questions."
