Energy: Science and Magic
The scientific definition of energy is a property that allows work to be done. Much of what phsyicists study has to deal with force, heat, motion, and work, and the energy either that is the cause of, or caused by, those things.Ā One of the most important things to take from science is the understanding that energy is quite literally all around us.Ā
We are affected by it, we affect the world around us with our own energy, we channel it to create the things we want to happen in the universe.Ā This is true at itās most basic, such as saying that if you want to kick a ball you must gain energy from somewhere, choose how we want to use that energy, and then put that energy into action by channeling that energy into the motion of kicking the ball.Ā
This is also true on a more spiritual level.Ā Ā
Many people, whether they are deeply religious, agnostic, atheist, pagan, or anything in between believe in the power of energy in some way or another.Ā Most people, even the most cynical and skeptical among us, believe in some things that are inexplicable. They may believe in gut feelings, believe that everything happens for a reason, or have a favorite shirt they always seem to have a good day in. These are all, in some way, a belief in the energy of the world around them.
More concrete evidence of the power of energy as something we can purposefully draw to us, affect, and then utilize, is the very common belief in positive thoughts, positiveĀ āvibesā, and - of course - positive energy.Ā Someone who will outright laugh at you for suggesting anything to do with magic will turn around and tell you that you really need to just believe in yourself if you want to get that job or a date with that attractive person who lives down the hall. They arenāt thinking about it in terms of you drawing together a force and then consciously applying it to yourself to influence the outcome you want, yet clearly they believe in it.Ā
Just because someone doesnāt use the labelĀ āmagicā doesnāt mean they arenāt talking about the same thing.
Scientific studies have also proven that a conscious choice to be positive, to draw positivity to yourself and put it out into the world, make people with serious illnesses more likely to pull through them.Ā Placebos have been proven to work simply because people believe in them.Ā Fantastic and inhuman feats have been accomplished through peopleās sheer will power and decision that they will do something.Ā Not to mention that when you choose to put a certain kind of power out into the universe, it is proven to be contagious.Ā Ā
There is a reason there are so many self-help books on the power of thought and the power of energy.Ā Every book that tells you to start your day with a positive affirmation, every expert that tells you that the first step to accomplishing your goals is to define them and then picture what it will look and feel like to achieve them, every guide that tells you that first you believe and then the results follow, is acting on this exact same principle: your mind has real and defined power and more people believe in it, despite not being able to define exactly how it works, than realize it.
Energy magic is the power within ourselves and our own minds to influence the universe around us in physical and non-physical ways.
You are absolutely bursting with energy.Ā Positive energy, negative energy, kinetic energy, spiritual energy, etc.Ā You are using that energy and affecting the world constantly. Youāre doing it right now as you sit there and the synapses are firing in your brain through scientifically measurable electric pulses. Youāre doing it as you breathe and the air moves through your lungs and out into the world, converted from mostly nitrogen and oxygen to carbon dioxide.Ā Youāre also putting out emotional and spiritual energy and those around you are in some way affected by the energy you put out right now.
Learning energy magic is all about teaching you how to focus this energy and make it work for you.Ā
