tarot inspired sendolo piece for today, with wips + detail breakdown + other misc yapping under the cut!
this was heaaaaavily inspired by this sleep token song! it shuffled on my playlist while in the car and i suddenly understood for a moment how devout religious types must feel because i got this composition beamed into my head like a message from god.
some breakdown of all my little details! i hid both their alchemical symbols in the frame as well as combining their aspect symbols to hide in there too. i thought the deaths head moth was clever because it ties in part of the lyrics that inspired this drawing (edolon being the "winged insect" and seinru the "funeral pyre") but also has the doom symbol instead of a regular skull shape! and obviously i had to design a rosary for this fictional cult to use for this piece, so the pendant at the end is supposed to represent the naught fathers eye, with the golden beads originally intended to have the light symbol on them as well and then all the regular wooden beads being the doom aspects green colour. unfortunately my canvas wasnt big enough for me to add such tiny engraved details on the golden beads :/
the stained glass window obviously has the light symbol in there as well but the full original design was also supposed to have a lot of x shapes and eye shapes.
they also have matching rings and matching beauty marks :) because i thought it was cute and also i stole the rings from @livewiredpipebomb 💖 originally they had matching sun and moon earrings as well but well. they got covered up by hair and hands </3
got off to a rough start with this one as you can probably tell. i was having an off day i guess so i just collected all my references on the side, did a good enough of a sketch to get the idea down based off the photobashed pose reference i managed to make, and then went and did laundry LMAO. sometimes doing warmups really helps, and sometimes you gotta know when to get a snack and take a break and go do something else.
we got there though! i always like to sketch in a colour that isnt just straight black or even purely greyscale. i couldnt tell you the reasoning behind it but sketching and lining in a more "fun" colour has always helped me loosen up while drawing.
the full stained glass design.... big eye for the naught father and lots of suns for seinru! as well as a lot of x's and vague eye shapes in general (plus some hearts <3)
my original colours were WAY more vibrant and saturated. i wasnt satisfied entirely with how this version looked so i went and played around with gradation maps, and after fiddling around with combinations and layer types i landed on something way way closer to my final version
this is also where i added in the text because i realized this was reminding me of a tarot card with the aspect ratio and the frame i added. @livewiredpipebomb was fast to suggest the lovers card as inspiration
and then i painted over the whole thing and added in some extra light and particle effects 🎉!
im not sure if my art process is interesting at all to read but i love to yap so im putting all this in here anyway 💖💖💖
