She lied to the man, she was definitely not going to the library. She was going to try to publish her most recent novel, or at least the most recent one that she hasn’t thrown away in anger. Outside the door, she found James. What was he doing here?
“Potter, what are you doing out here?”
The young man was looking slightly out of place in his fancy clothes and his messy hair. He seemed out of breath, like he had just come out of this office writing.
"Lily?" He said surprise to see her at such an early time in the day, "What are you- It's so early- Is everything alright?" He frowned visibly breathless with a worried expression now as he try to keep his composure, straightening his posture clumsily.
“I asked first.” She didn’t really mind answering the question, there’s nothing he doesn’t already know, but she felt like annoying him.
He nodded his, passing a hand in his hair, messying them up even more.
"Right, well I was hum... visiting the publisher, for personal matters, nothing important really." He said, not looking so confident, James never knew how to lie.
"What about you? Here for a new novel, I'm sure, but Merlin, it's so early in the morning... he didn't thought I'd see you." He added under his breath.
”hm. Ok. I was supposed to be here last night, so really I’m late. Have fun… standing outside for your unimportant business.” She sighed and turned back towards the door. She did not want to go back and humiliate herself. Especially in front of James. “You know what? You’re right, it’s too early, and since you aren’t doing anything important, we can stay here and… chat. Right?”
He got surprised by her sudden change of mind. James wasn't the smartest but he definetly knew people - he knew Lily. He frowned a bit.*
"Hum I mean of course, you know it's always a pleasure to talk to you," he smiled, chuckling a little as he scratched the back of his head, "But are you sure you're alright? I- I know it's never easy to come here for you. Maybe you want me to come in with you?"
”I’m not a child. I just thought that since you’re here, we should catch up. We didn’t get to talk much last night after what happened with Sirius and… was it Crouch? It doesn’t matter. I mean, I’m not desperate to talk, but it’s just been so long, might as well.”
James didn't phased at her defensiveness, he was used to it by now. That's one of the things he liked the most about her, she was feisty, got a stubborn mind and her own opinion.
"Yeah sure, so what's your new novel about?" He asked, always liking the redhead's stories.
”it’s a secret.”
"Well then, I hope it's a good one," he smirked.
”they probably won’t like it.”
"They're just a bunch or idiots anyway Lils. Who cares what they think?"
”I don’t care what they think but if I can’t sell these books, there’s no point in making them.” Of course she cared what they think. She wouldn’t usually. But she knows why they don’t like her writing and she hates them for it.
James frowned as he stepped a little closer, "Hey now, don't say that. These books aren't made for them. You write them for yourself, alright? And if they still refuse to sell them, I can always pay them a little... visit."
