there's something unnerving in how you literally can NOT like elliott smith moderately, like a normal person feels about an artist. like i haven't met a single person who was into him who was normal about it. you can like, say, the mountain goats or kate bush or fiona apple in a normal way, sure, but everyone who i've ever met that listened to elliott smith knows all of the released, unreleased and heatmiser song lyrics and can draw paralells between all of them and does so passionately, has listened to every episode of my favourite elliott smith song, spent days and nights doing deep dives into his biography, mental health history. like you can't just be normal about him once you start listening to him!!! you get to a point where you start bawling your eyes out when you hear the opening notes of waltz #2 in a coffee shop. what the fuck<3
