hi friends. new update. i will be coming back but i'm not sure when. my life has (probably) turned upside down and while it's an incredibly good thing, it's also super overwhelming. i'm not quite back to a creative headspace and other things have to come first. i still check in every couple of days so i've got all my million drafts gathered but i haven't tried writing yet. i have messages i haven't answered too and i'm sorry about that. i'll get to them when i can. anyway i haven't vanished is the point i'm just Consumed by other things.

hey all. i don't really want to get into it but i'm having a really terrible time IRL and i just haven't had motivation to come back yet. i've been checking the dash, collecting my lil drafts, but my creative energy is very low because all my energy is very low. activity will be sporadic at best for a little while and i have no illusions about catching up for a While since my drafts have hit 50 in my absence. anyway just a lil update since i said i'd be back this month. i will do my best but for now i make no promises about anything.

Hazel hues couldn't spare a shit even if he had one. Smoke obscured his line of sight, studying the sturdy frame of Exy's most beloved, most treasured and abused pup with little regard for his commentary. The day Kevin Day said something worth a grain of salt is the day Wymack lost weight. Neither of which is happening anytime soon.

He didn't ask, anyways, blowing smoke from between chapped lips begging for water. He's not anyone's goddamn concern, and he sure as hell wasn't asking Mother Hen over here for his goddamn opinion. Breaking his gaze in favor of the night sky and the shitty sight of the college campus around them.

"Kick rocks," Andrew remarked lazily, perched on the edge of the roof to their dormitory. His heart pounded, beating against his ribs. Straining against the copper cage that kept it bound, tightening by the second until breath became a second thought.

He loved it. It scared him. Two things can be true. Gotta love a good fucking oxymoron.

Kevin doesn't waver under Andrew's harsh glare. They've been through a lot, especially lately. When he breathes too deep, he can still feel the imprint of Andrew's hands around his throat. He doesn't know for certain that's why Andrew looks so fucked now that everything is calm, but he wonders. Now that Neil is mending, now that the danger is passed, he has no reason to look so unsteady. And though it isn't readily apparent to most, Kevin sees it. He knows Andrew better than Andrew thinks he does.

Kevin's not doing well himself, and hasn't been since news of Riko's death. Fine, he can admit that. He's both hungover and a little drunk at the same time, but whatever.

He sits next to Andrew on the ledge, watching his face when Andrew's not watching him anymore. "If I kick rocks, I'll have broken toes. That won't help anything." Not what Andrew meant. Not the point. "No one's after us anymore, Drew." A name he's rarely used. His voice is rough still, still recovering, but it's not weak by any means. "Why are you doing this to yourself?"

it's a true enough statement. in some ways, their working relationship has been the longest out of anywhere he's ever been, yet it hasn't actually been that long. still, enough time has passed for suli to know it's really a reflection of reality, what cai has said. even if that statement has the potential to sound a little childish, among the young masters of wealthy families and people who could have the potential to garner power, cai is so far removed from the usual repertoire of stuck up and entitled young masters, suli would rather not compare them at all. if anything, he feels a strange sense of comraderie between them, even if this whole thing must be too good to really last.

It's not often that it gets to him, that he's not like his family. That he's barely welcome with his family. They can't disown him or he thinks they would have, and he almost wishes that law of protection isn't there. He knows they loathe him, knows they wish he was a better heir, a better son. He won't even continue the family line--it will fall to his sister to do that and if she fails, it just goes on down the line. Never mind what any of them want, it's all about propriety and obligation and duty.

It's not that he's mad at Suli, and he didn't mean to snap, but it's so hard when Suli keeps trying to put him in that same role, trying to speak to him always as a master, always as one of them when he's not, and every time he hears from his family is another reminder of the fact. He feels terrible for it, that he took that out on Suli, even if it finally got him to back down.

Cai digs at his wet and swollen eyes with the heel of his hand. "I'm sorry, Suli," he says miserably. "It's not your fault. I know you're just trying to do your job like you've been told, but gods I wish you wouldn't. If I wanted that, I would have stayed in my father's house." He looks up at him from his nest of a mattress on the floor where Suli found him. "You're not my prisoner, Suli. If you want to go, I'll find somewhere else for you, somewhere good, someone who will treat you with the respect that you deserve. But I--I'm sorry, I can't treat you like they want me to. I can't. You saved me from a miserable marriage, a miserable life, and if I were to just--" He sighs and shakes his head. "No....never mind. You've given enough." He's relented, at least, on calling Cai his master, and that's been a battle hard won. "Thank you."

She had already wanted to wring the necks of the supposed designers. How long had these fucking games been going on? And DISTRICT 7 was still dressed up in lumber-themed costumes. Wood and green, because that was all they were to the Capital. Each district is narrowed down to one or two things to make it really easy, and to make sure that you never really have to care, especially the further away you go. She knew she needed to PLAY the game. But it was impossible to look at those rich morons and stand around them. Let alone flatter or compliment them. 

Wasn’t it enough that she didn’t take those sharp little picks they place in sandwiches and stab their eyes out? Obviously not. And when she goes back home she to see the parents, and siblings of the kids that she brought with her to be killed. “ God, the party tonight is going to kill me. I am going to have to drink every possible thing in sight. ” Part of her charm, or so they decided to name it, was her sharp wit. She was being r u d e. But those rich psychopathic imbeciles decided to see it as a quirky little trait. 

That was for the better, otherwise, those kids would be the first to go down after the initial countdown. “ It would be less cruel for them to die right away. ” She was being honest, she would prefer that for the, rather than to be dragged out, waiting who will kill you and how. “ How about you help me shmooze with those in the Capital, and I will insult them anytime they mention fishing. ” She grinned, but it did not reach her eyes, she wasn’t sure she knew how to smile, there was definitely no reason for it.

Finnick kept his eyes on his trainees, but he was paying more attention to her for the time being. He could only advise them, really, not help them much beyond. But he was good at that, at the partying, at kissing up to sponsors, at using everything he had available to him--which was quite a bit. He hated it, but if it might save a kid’s life...well, he might as well try. Besides, if he seemed as checked out as he felt, that would only bring trouble down on him and his loved ones, few though they might be. 

“Don’t drink too much,” he answered. “Just enough to make you interesting. Not enough to make you trip over yourself.” At normal times in the Capital the latter was the preferred, but not right now when her tributes needed her head to be clear. Not when they’d be judged by her conduct as much as their own. But then, he didn’t think Johanna was really asking for his advice, or if she was, that she’d take it.

He snorted softly. “Well, in fairness, it was a bit like fishing.” Driving people through with his trident after trapping them in a net. It was why he’d been so good at it, really. That and his ability to dissociate himself from the things he was doing. That was how he was surviving now too. “Why bother,” he asked after a moment, “with the schmoozing if you’re fine with them dying in the first slaughter anyway?” It wasn’t a jab--he was genuinely curious. From all he knew about it, he assumed she just wouldn’t be bothered. She wouldn’t be the first mentor to be that way, and would hardly be the last.

"Hey, Jason!" Will calls, arm extended over his head to catch the son of Jupiter's attention as he jogs slightly to close the distance. He's already got a list of tasks rattling around his brain, some much more pressing than this conversation with Jason, but if he doesn't ever ask the Roman about it then he's never going to find the time to bring it up. One of those Important but not Urgent conversations that tend to keep getting pushed out of the way because someone always seems to be dying. Because demigods.

Or maybe this just comes from being so close to Nico.

"Sorry, I know you're working on the camp exchange program and I wanted to add to your problems a bit," he says once he gets to Jason's side. His smile is easy, though apologetic, and just like Will, Jason also knows what it's like to have a forever long list. "Basically, I want to see if I could get with some of the Camp Jupiter healers and compare notes. Maybe we can find better ways to take care of people?"

Jason's head is rattling with all the million thoughts inside it. He hasn't been back to the east coast in a few months and it's a little overwhelming to be back and have so much feel left undone. He doesn't mind, of course. His commitment to Temple Hill saved his and Percy's lives and he's determined to honor it whether or not Kym could even reach him to exact her wrath on him. And Annabeth has been brainstorming an idea of New Athens, and he's left so many things to do back at Camp Jupiter that he can't keep it all straight. He's trying to sort out what to do first when he hears his own name.

He stops and turns and waits for Will to catch up to him. He has only smiles for the healer, even if he's sure a new ask is about to come. If anyone has the right to ask for anything, it's the son of Apollo.

"Sure, let's hear it." He pauses to consider that and nods his head along with his thoughts. "Mm, that's a good idea." He sucks on his teeth a moment, deep in thought. Camp Jupiter needed its healers so often that it would be easier if Will went to them, but Will was needed just as desperately and, well, he wouldn't deprive Nico. "I'll ask around, but...there is one healer I can think of. I'm sure he'd be happy to meet with you. He's a son of Psyche, a bit like you actually. I'm sure he'd love to brainstorm. And I'm sure he'd know who else could be spared for a couple of weeks."

His gaze came back into focus and he smiled again. "If camp could spare you I'd suggest you come back with me for a visit, but I don't know if I would suggest such a terrible fate for your campers, trying to deal without you. It's impressive, the amount you've taken on. You're head healer, aren't you? Or--whatever title would be the appropriate one."

Henry didn’t understand why those words warranted a dramatic response but he knew that they would. He knew Francis wouldn’t like it, that he might try to talk him out of it or hell, maybe invite himself along. Henry supposed he wouldn’t mind it if he did. He wasn’t leaving Francis, wasn’t even leaving Camilla and Richard, just Hampden. There was no reason to stay. Julian was gone. Francis had to know this was coming. Henry wasn’t going to waste his time on an English degree, nor would he stay somewhere that offered so little. None of them liked Hampden, except for Richard, perhaps. Its single redeeming quality had left and though Henry tried to leave it too, he failed that go around.

“Portland,” he answered, obviously meaning Maine. He would never live on the west coast. “Most of the paperwork is done and I have movers scheduled.”

He raised a brow as he inspected the lenses of his glasses and put them back on. If he truly never wanted to see Francis again why would he tell him at all? It frustrated him that it was asked, frustrated him too how big of a deal he was making this into. He shouldn’t be surprised. He wasn’t. He closed his eyes and pressed his knuckles to his brow once more. “Not to Hampden,” he answered. He didn’t think about his words when he said it, that Francis was there, that Camilla was, whatever their relationship was these days, Henry wasn’t sure. 

A sigh and he shook his head, waved a dismissing hand. “Don’t be ridiculous, Francis. If you want to come there’s a guestroom.” 

Francis had assumed Henry wouldn’t continue with what he would consider to be a pointless education, and of course Francis agreed with that decision. He’d made the same one himself, and was making plans with Richard to leave for that very reason. Nothing was set in stone yet, of course, but they had applied, they were moving forward, but somehow it had not occurred to him that Henry wouldn’t be there. That Henry was done. Henry didn’t need to leave town if he was just going to drop out. He had no need to work, would likely not pursue further education without Julian, so the only reason he would feel the need to leave was to get away from the people who resided there. Himself included.

After sitting at Henry’s bedside for months, helping him through his recovery, being there every step of the way, this felt like such a slap in the face he could hardly stand it. He didn’t even want to lift his head to meet Henry’s eyes. Maybe he’d been wrong about what they were, about the way Henry saw him. “Of course you do,” he muttered darkly, almost too softly to be heard.

But then the backhanded invitation startled him into looking up, a frown creasing between his brows. “What?” Henry often left his head spinning but never quite like this before. “What do you mean?” He couldn’t come, couldn’t move with him--but that wasn’t the offer. A guestroom wasn’t a bedroom, it was a temporary space, temporarily offered. Still, it wasn’t a door slamming shut in his face either. “What do you mean, if I want to come? Do you want me to? Is that why you decided to tell me? It doesn’t leave much time for preparation, you realize.” Which meant Francis coming along was never the plan originally. Still, it wasn’t not the plan now. Gods, he needed another drink.

Gods, when Jason had disappeared into the form of the Titan, Nico didn’t know what to think. Half-listening for the buzzing in his ears that might signal Jason’s passage into the realm of the dead, and half-dreading it might come, Nico hardly noticed what he was doing the whole time, trying to at least fight through the rest of the enemy to get at Jason’s side. What he might have done to help Jason after that, he couldn’t be sure, but the trail of enemy dead behind him, some even looking to have died without being touched, spoke to his determination.

And he distantly noted the ichor all over the son of Jupiter, both noting it but not caring to think further on where it might have come from. “We won, we won,” Nico repeated, trying to focus on the fact that Jason was alive and not making a mental catalogue of all the places the two were touching. A pang of something curled in the back of his throat, a feeling he didn’t recognize but then did so intensely he almost thought he was going to throw up.

What would have happened if Jason didn’t make it?

“It’s not over,” he added automatically, practical side of him shoving through as he forced his voice past the twisting in his throat. It’s not over, echoed in his ears, as if hearing himself say the words aloud helped him to realize just what else he was hearing.

He’d been ignoring the buzzing in his ears since the fighting began, the sound of the dead passing into the House of Hades, but one particular note finally pushed its way into his awareness. Nico’s arms went slack around Jason, his expression shifting from happiness to horror. “Bianca,” he whispered his sister’s name, looking up bleakly at Jason before attempting to push away to find her body.

Jason felt dizzy, adrenaline still pumping in his veins. He was overwhelmed by it, by the relief that the war was won. The other titans could come back he supposed but something told him that they wouldn’t. Kronos was not returning for a throne that was no longer there. Jason hadn’t really known what he was doing when he put his shoulder to it to topple it to the ground, he’d just known he had to. That the mountain collapsed under him... A lot had happened today. 

Nico’s words didn’t make sense to him. What did he mean it wasn’t over? “Of course it is,” he answered, bewildered. “Nico, it’s done. There’s--I mean we’ll have to sweep the hills for monsters in the coming days but--” But no, something was wrong. He could see it in Nico’s face, but he didn’t know what it meant. 

Oh. Oh no. The son of Pluto said his sister’s name in a way he knew, a way he’d heard before. Not from him but others. No one had come to give them news, but no one had to. Jason didn’t let him go, not yet. He grabbed Nico’s arm. “I’m coming with you. We’ll find her.” He willed her to be alive, but gods, she wasn’t, was she? Jason didn’t have a sister, had no family at all besides the wolves and it was different. He couldn’t relate to it, couldn’t understand it, but he did know the horror of losing someone you loved. “Come on.” He didn’t think about it, but grabbed Nico around the waist and lifted them both off the ground, his feet striking the air as he flew. It would be easier to find her, to get to her, without pushing through the corpses of monsters and Romans alike. “Do you know where she is? Can you feel her? Where’s the Third?” Her cohort, but the question was aimed at himself more than Nico while his eyes scanned the carnage, the still-settling dust. It was almost funny, when he spotted them and flew them that way, how quickly the thrill of victory, the relief of a war ended, was beginning to taste like the bitterness of defeat.

He took the last drag off of his cigarette and then peeled himself forward, stretching to stamp it into the ashtray. Francis was taking more from his words than he meant of them and though he considered correcting it, he chose not to. He misinterpreted but he wasn't wrong. That night, in spite of the trifles that came of it, was the best of his life. He remembered it only in pieces. Their bodies, yes, Francis's delicate neck, Camilla's soft lips, he remembered those. Then, that shape. It was an animal, something wild and holy. It should have scared him but it didn't. He remembered the ringing in his ears, too, and how it was pleasant for once. It sounded more like song.

"Glorious is a good word for it, yes." A small smile appeared upon his face as he thought of those dim memories. "I was thinking of Julian. He gave a brilliant lecture earlier." Henry regretted none of that night, though he did sometimes wish it was without its end. Julian would have been delighted to hear all about it, Henry was certain.

He reached into his breast pocket and procured his cigarette case, striking another alight before resuming his previous languid position. "I would do it again," he admitted with a cloud of smoke, "once this is all over. I would not repeat what I alluded to in any other context than that." Were the farmer a true source of guilt he might have been dissuaded from repeating anything that lead to that murder but he couldn't be. He who was always so restrained, so full of thoughts and thoughts about his thoughts, it was the first time he ever felt wild. It was ecstasy.

"Yes," he agreed with a small smirk. They were drunk, and he was a little more than. "I'm glad it's just us tonight, it's quiet." None of Bunny's chatter for once, he thought. He was sure his headache would've remained if he was around.

Francis raised his brows at Henry. He was thinking of Julian while reminiscing about their orgy that had not included him? Interesting choice, not that Francis was surprised. He didn't know the exact nature of Henry's relationship with their teacher but he knew for a fact it wasn't sexual--or hadn't been before the Bacchanal. He didn't think that would have changed, given all that he knew about Henry, so it was a bit surprising but this was probably all intellectual pursuit for Henry anyway, strange and marvelous creature that he was.

He lit another cigarette of his own and slumped to rest against Henry's shoulder, his eyes only half focused as he watched their little clouds of smoke rise a dissipate into the room. "No? That's a shame," he mused. "I rather enjoyed our sessions leading up to it." He wasn't ashamed of that fact either. Sex with Henry was a spiritual experience all on its own, and wasn't something he thought was possible to replicate with anyone else. He wasn't surprised by that either though--that had been a ground rule when they'd first started.

He laughed, a little messily. "God, I couldn't agree more. Sometimes, much as I adore our other friends, it is nice when it's just the two of us again." Though he didn't mind Richard either so much. He wasn't frustrating and obnoxious like Bunny and he wasn't whatever the twins were. Things had changed between him and both of them since he'd started seeing Charles, even casually, and while he was increasingly fond of them he felt more at ease without them at times, tonight included.

"I'm not sure I've given it as much thought as I should have," he mused after almost a minute of silence. "I can't get it out of my mind, that night, but I feel too often all that seems to come to mind is the rather unfortunate end, and the drama that's stemmed from it." A nice way to say the murder we committed and the way Bunny won't shut the fuck up about it. "I feel it should have changed the way I see the universe, it feels so big and important, and the rest of this nonsense is getting in the way of me really seeing it. Once all this has blown over, I almost want to do it again, do it over. Let the feeling last a while. You know what I mean?"
