“The lights of the city are pretty, yeah?”
Nauja loved the lights. They looked like stars, but on earth. She supposed it sort of made up for the fact that those ‘earth stars’ drowned out the real stars.
“It’s a bit noisy, though. I’m still not used to the commotion of the big city.”
“They are gorgeous! Not as beautiful as the University, but Manhattan has its charms,” she told the other Gargate, sitting on the edge of the building and swinging her legs back and forth as her tail wiggled off to the side. The Moscow State University was always lit up at night, and so bright so it could be seen at the edge of the city.

Ugh. Of course she was right, and he hated it. It’d look pretty bad if a gargoyle attacked a human for something as petty as bullying. It would only increase the tensions between their kinds. Plus, Elisa was a detective, and a pretty tough cop in a battle. She could handle herself fine. Still, what that jerk said to her outside the station made his blood bubble with anger. About how a woman of all things could be a cop…So disrespectful. Elisa was part of their clan, in a way, and like his big sister like she was to Derek. The red gargoyle sighed in frustration and glanced away. He could just pull one little prank on him…It wouldn’t hurt anybody, right?
No. It would. He was second in command now, and had to handle situations a bit more calmly, like Goliath would. Violence was only used if there was no other choice, he’d said to him.
“Yeah. I know…It’s just that Elisa’s a part of our family. She’s stood by us when we needed it most, and was the first human we trusted after the sleep spell was broken. We probably wouldn’t even be alive now without her. And to see some creep talk to her like that and do nothing about it…
It just…ticks me off. That’s all.”
Liliya’s clawed hand settled against his shoulder, and her wings caped around her shoulders,
“I know. But we have to protect the humans, even from themselves, and even in Moscow we sometimes have to deal with prejudice,” she told him, sliding her hand from his shoulder and folding her hands in front of her, blinking slowly. Liliya knew Brooklyn was passionate, and cared deeply for his clan and family.
Her head tilted and she smiled,
“In my clan, we have a friend like Miss Maza. Or, several friends. We call them ‘Rookery Keepers’. They were with us growing up, after we were weaned, and they are like older brothers and sisters,” she explained, “so I know well what you mean,” It stung when you couldn’t defend someone you cared about because of prejudices, especially in these situations, but at least Brooklyn was mature enough to know what her own rookery brother was still struggling with.

“Do you not think Miss Maza can take care of herself?! She is a police officer, and you’ll only do more harm than good if you go after a human!” Mainly because humans will see what they consider a monster going after a human, regardless of the reason.

“Hi! I was following you for a while, because I was going to surprise you with cake, but then you were too far from the bakery,” she pouted to her friend, tail lifted in the air and wagging her tail tip back and forth as her arms folded on Esther’s back.
