Juice It Up
This programme was run in conjunction with the Orange Apple Festival. It was a programme designed for Kindergarten and 210 students from Orange, Bletchington, Calare and Bowen Public Schools participated.
The children participated in a series of video conferences based around the apple theme. A local orchardist donated a wide range of apples so that the children could sort and classify them. Apples were weighed, dissected, painted and eaten!!
Children from Bowen and Calare Public Schools enjoyed an excursion to an orchard as a culminating activity to the unit.
We hope you enjoy these mementos of this special programme!
pre2 Behind the News
Throughout Term 2 students from Blayney, Bletchington and Calare Public Schools utilised video-conferencing technologies to produce a series of 'Behind the News' broadcasts,
Children scripted a variety of different articles from current affairs, to sport, entertainment, the weather and of course.... advertisements!!
We hope you enjoy these snap shots of this innovative programme.
ANZAC Day holds a very special place in the history and culture of both Australia and New Zealand,
The year pre2 were very proud to conduct a Trans- Tasman ANZAC Day ceremony utilising video-conferencing technologies.
This allowed the students from both Australia and New Zealand to conduct the ceremony simultaneously.
Along with the traditional elements of an ANZAC service the children learned of the 'symbols of ANZAC' such as the Aussie slouch hat and the New Zealand 'lemon squeeze'. They laid a cross, an olive branch and poppies to honour those who have lost their lives in war.
At the conclusion of the ceremony the students had the opportunity to speak with a WW11 POW and learned, not only of his experiences during the war, but also how these experiences have affected the rest of his life.
Magic Maths was a six week mathematics enrichment programme. The children participated in a series of video conferences that explored topics such as topology, networks, alternative strategies for multiplication, the creation of magic squares and Mobius strips.
We hope you enjoy exploring these photos as much as we enjoyed exploring the magic of Mathematics.
National Young Leader's Day - Part 3
National Young Leader's Day - Part 2
National Young Leaders Day - Part 1
Students from several schools within the pre2 Learning Community traveled to Sydney yesterday to participate in the National Young Leaders Day.
The students listened to five guest speakers including, outdoor educator, corporate trainer and Officer in the Australian Army Mike Martin, Geelong AFL captain Tom Harley, Ronni Kahn, from Ozharvest, comedian Anh Do and surfing scientist, Ruben Merman.
A truly inspirational day!
Glenroi Heights Public School hosted the second of our Harmony Day events. The day was a huge success. The contributions made by the talented Glenroi Heights Student Leaders were amazing and we sincerely thank them for their efforts.
Over the past four weeks children from Glenroi Heights, Orange East, Millthorpe, Bowen, Calare and Blayney Public Schools have been participating in a series of video conferences during which they looked at how they were alike and different to the children from countries such as Ghana, Malaysia, England, Zambia, China, Poland , Zambia and Japan.
The children attended one of two Harmony Day celebrations and enjoyed a day of games and activities from around the world.
These two short video clips represent the fun and enjoyment the children had on the two days! The children also created a wonderful Harmony Day quilt that you will see featured in the second of the two videos!
Congratulations to the 300 children who participated in the programme. Special mention must be made of the outstanding leadership displayed by the student mentors from both Millthorpe and Glenroi Heights Public Schools. They were nothing short of exceptional!
Science Investigation Day
190 students from the pre2 schools converged on Calare Public School for a day of science investigation. The children completed a series of ten experiments, developing their knowledge of dependent, independent and controlled variables leading to the ability to conduct fair and scientifically valid investigations.
Orange District Swimming Carnival

This week we welcomed students from Glenroi Public School to the pre2 Choir. Their enthusiasm was wonderful to watch! All the students are working hard to learn the repertoire in preparation for their visit to Calare Nursing Home in Week 9.
Orange Public School students hard at work on their Magic Squares!
Magic Maths
Children from the pre2 Learning Community commenced a seven week enrichment Mathematics programme this week with the exploration of magic squares. Discovering the 'secret' formula for the creation of magic squares, the children can now complete them at lightning speed!
Did you know that the first sighting of a magic square was on the back of a turtle! Join us at our Magic Maths Expo to be held at Orange East Public School on the 28th March. Parents and friends are invited to view the students work from 2.00 - 2.30 pm.
Rehearsal sounded fantastic! Well-done #pre2 kids! (Taken with instagram)
