Ordering Chaos
Tobin Heath “Ordering Chaos” 2022 TH 8 Acrylic on canvas 48 x 36 x 1 in. (121.92 x 91.4 x 2.54 cm)
Ordering Chaos is athlete and artist Tobin Heath’s eighth art work with re—inc.
Inspired by a deep examination into fractals, the infinitely complex and self-ordering patterns, she created this piece over the course of several months in London. The piece is acrylic on canvas, a warm glow of individually hand-mixed colors across 432 squares. The process of creating this piece is described by the artist as being “beautifully inefficient”. The squares themselves were each created individually and expressed uniquely in approach, execution, and result.
Throughout human history fractals have soothed us. Fractals offer a sense of solution. In our increasingly complex world perhaps they prove that there is order in the chaos, music amid the noise. Through Ordering Chaos, Tobin shows us that fractals are a pattern of hope.
17% of proceeds from the Ordering Chaos Auction will be donated to Hollaback! to champion their work with bystander intervention programming that trains everyday people to respond to, intervene in, and heal from harassment.
