How To Impress Her Parents: Your Prom Night Game Plan

You’ve asked the girl, gotten the prom tickets and your tux, and you have found the most romantic place for dinner. Everything is perfect. So now it is the night of and you are about to meet her parents for the first time. Take a deep breath–we’ve got you covered. Here’s your game plan for making a great first impression.

Be On Time

Whatever you do, be on time. There is nothing worse than a first impression where you are late. Prom is an important night but it can be a bit stressful. Help your date out by being there when you said you would be. So leave a few minutes early, and look up the directions to her house.

Be Polite

Shake her parents hands and introduce yourself. Address them formally by Mr and Mrs or sir and m’am. Manners are a great way of being respectful to her parents and showing them that you care about the impression they have of you. This also goes for being an absolute gentleman to their daughter. Compliment her when you see her and thank her at the end of the night for being a great date. For bonus points: bring her mom flowers. This is a thoughtful gesture that not a lot of parents expect but will definitely put you in the good graces of her parents.

Small Talk

There is always that nerve racking small talk with her parents, when you are waiting for your date to finish getting ready. This is the time to engage with her parents and allow them to get to know a little bit about who you are. Ask them how they are and how their day went. Don’t forget to tell them you are excited for the night with your date and how much fun you are looking forward to having. Ask what time you would like your date to be home by. Make her parents laugh and at ease by letting them know that you are a little nervous. It shows that you are human and reminds them of their own prom night. It may seem like common sense, but being engaging and proactive about being a good date is often forgotten in the whirlwind of the evening.

Bring Your Date Back On Time

Remember when you asked her parents what time they would like their daughter back home by? Keep that number in your head and watch the clock. There is nothing worse than bringing their daughter home later than they said–especially after you asked them. If you are late, due to traffic or you lost track of the time, let her parents know so they aren’t staying up late worried about their daughter.
