i bet the most embarrassing part of being a time traveler is when you travel back in time to prevent the hellish dystopia from happening but you accidentally set in motion the sequence of events that cause the hellish dystopia to happen in the first place
my favorite cyberpunk dystopia film is 2020
when times are tough i find it helpful to remind myself that, hey, at least godzilla isn’t rampaging through my town and then he gets bitten by a zombie and turns into some sort of towering zombie godzilla who shoots nuclear fire that both burns everything and turns it into zombies
NEW YORK—Breaking into a grotesque, flapping half-run as his knees reversed themselves and pinion feathers burst wetly from his elongating fingers, rapidly deforming National Audubon Society president David Yarnold leapt through a window of his Manhattan office and flew in a series of ungainly swooping lurches towards the forests of upstate New York Friday after injecting himself with the DNA of a red-tailed hawk. “Look away! Look away, damn you,” the nonprofit CEO and feather-covered monstrosity hissed in a quasi-avian squawk as he disappeared into a thicket. “Oh, God! What have I become? I’m no bird—I’m no man—I’m a monster!” In possibly related news, several rural Hudson Valley communities reported that a large birdlike abomination bearing a resemblance to Yarnold had injured itself while attacking its own horrific reflection in plate-glass windows.
literally every time i stop watching the news some crazy shit happens
me earlier this year: “the news is vapid, sensationalistic, fearmongering garbage. I’m done watching the news!”
news: global pandemic breaks out. cities under lockdown.
me last week: “okay that global pandemic shit was some crazy shit, but the news is still vapid, sensationalistic, fearmongering trash. maybe i’ll check in like once every few weeks or if there’s like an emergency or something, but other than that, I’m done watching the news.”
news: nationwide mass protests and civil unrest break out. cities under curfew.
me a few weeks from now: “well, ok. the protests have finally died down somewhat. the news is still sensationalistic garbage. no more news for me!”
news: large hadron collider explodes. cities absorbed into other dimension.
me: “dammit!”
