Sheesh. Someone was bossy. Suddenly Veigue reminded him of a certain banshee. "Just a few minutes. You in a rush?"

âRightâŚâ
-Later, during said break-
â⌠so how long do you plan on being here, anyway?â
"In what sense?"

âSure. What have you been up to Zelos?â He let out a small laugh, glad for the change of pace off of him and his issues, even with the snobbish tone.Â
"Making new friends~ After seeing you do it so easily, I thought I'd give it another shot. Now I've met Lily-hunny and Vee-Vee."
Somewhere, far away, one Mr. Veigue Lungberg was cringing.

âMister Zelos, are you by chance suggesting that I am not grown up enough?â Lilith forced a smile, but her mind was still filled with a thousand thoughts.
"Hey, now. It doesn't matter how grown up you are. There's stuff you haven't had to go through yet. You should put that off as long as you can."
prettyboyplaysdumb started following you
Oh hell. She probably should have known that this would happen. Zelos wasnât an idiot - well, a perverted idiot, but not an unobservant one. Instantly the summoner stiffened as if a bucket of cold water had been dumped on top of her. What exactly was she supposed to tell him? That he, or, presumably, one of his other âselvesâ had admitted to having feelings for her and that sheâd pretty much gotten the hell out of dodge and had been more or less avoiding trying to make sense of this entire thing ever since? Yeah. That totally go over well. So might as well go for the usual route; denial.
âWhat? N-no. Iâm just not in the mood for any of your stupid comments.â Or ever. Maybe? Ugh â why couldnât this be easy?!
Oh, right. Zelos was the only one who loved the sound of his own voice. He raised a brow, wondered why Sheena was being so antsy, and left it at that. It wasn't his place to pry - had never been his place to pry. Still, that didn't mean he couldn't worry. She always put up such a strong front, but he'd seen her crumble before. It wasn't a pretty sight, and he'd like to avoid it.
"Hey, hey. Don't forget that I graduated at the top of my class. That's gotta count for something." Only he had cheated his way there. Heh. But that, too, required some skill.

âWell⌠I donât know about other families, and I admit that I nag at my older brother a lot. But⌠I guess thatâs just my way of showing that I worry about him. Heâs the only family I have, aside from my grandfather. I guess that nagging him is really the only way I can show how much I care, huhâŚâ
This really got Lilith thinking. She grew up without a mother and had pretty much fit herself into that role. Had she been too hard on her brother all these years? Was she too much of a mother to him and not a enough of a sister? ⌠Did he leave home because he couldnât stand her anymore? She really didnât want to think that was true, butâŚ
â⌠Sorry. I suddenly⌠donât feel so good.â
"You look like you're thinking too hard, Lily-hunny. It's not good for a young gal like you to worry so much. Leave that to the grown-ups like me."

â⌠sure. I think I see a clearing up ahead.â
"What a relief. My feet have been killing me."
peachpieanonymous started following you
âI guess that could be it.â He shrugged. âLetâs just keep moving.â
"We've been moving for hours now. Can't we have a little break?"

âJustâŚgathering supplies and such.â Heâs sighed, not really wanting to dwell on what was going on in his life. Many sleepless nights had already passed, and he could only take so much more talking about it.Â
Zelos didn't like that tone. He'd come to consider Lloyd as a man of simple thought. When something was bothering Lloyd like this, well, that was a sign. Zelos wouldn't pry though. He wasn't the spur of the moment heart-to-heart type.
"That sounds so boring. Wanna know what I've been up to?" He changed the topic for Lloyd's sake, but not without sounding snobbish about it.

âMm⌠true enough.â Veigue agreed, though perhaps he was still a bit too anxious. Surely he should be able to tell the difference between a squirrel and monster roaming nearby. âStill⌠sorry about that.â
"Feeling out of place? That might be why you're so jumpy."
"And don't apologize. It's not a big deal."
peachpieanonymous started following you
Oh. Was that all it was? Veigue wondered, but⌠maybe he was just being too jumpy, after all.
âMy mistakeâŚâ He muttered, reluctantly letting himself relax again. Welp, that was embarrassing.
"I don't blame you, though. Monsters do like to congregate where people haven't formed settlements. The denser the woods, the more likely we'll run into some trouble. Let's keep our eyes open."

There was some slight surprise on Veigueâs part, when the silence lingered. Mostly because he had already pegged Zelos as something of a loudmouth. But⌠he couldnât complain. If anything, he felt more at ease this way.
But, it couldnât last forever.
The sound of something moving nearby was brief, but it was enough to bring Veigue to an abrupt stop. Already, a hand was over his shoulder, grasping at his weapon.
ââŚdid you hear something?â
Zelos snorted and continued onward without a care in the world. If he jumped at every little thing, he'd die of stress.
"Yeah, I did. Little furry woodland creatures. How scary is that?"
He snickered when a squirrel poked its head out from the bushes and then dove back in.
prettyboyplaysdumb started following you
âHey Zelos, whatâs up?â
"Lloyd! Gee, nothing much. What have you been up to?"
peachpieanonymous started following you
The silence from Veigue continued just a bit longer, enough to briefly consider what Zelos said. Had he managed to strike a nerve? Well there was something he hadnât counted on happening again so soon.
âGood. I wouldnât want to.â He really didnât have anything else to say on the matter. At least not for the moment.
And so they inevitably fell into silence once more. Zelos liked to blame that on Veigue's own unwillingness to share things about himself. Not that he was all that curious. He didn't feel like prompting the guy with a barrage of questions. Conversations like that were the worst. Which, if you thought about it, was funny coming from a guy like him who played up his own ego.
He didn't think that Veigue would be the first to break the silence, but Zelos would let it go on for as long as he could.

âBut sometimes family just needs to be nagged at, you know.â Lilith would say this, considering sheâs the one who normally gets after her older brother.
Was that why he'd always been yelled at and scolded? Because his family felt the need to nag at him? That just left him with a severe inferiority complex. Really. Why else would he boast so much without anything backing up his claims? The things people adored him for were based on birth and not merit. Sometimes Zelos had to wonder why he even bothered.
"You'd know better than me."
peachpieanonymous started following you
ââŚâ Veigue glanced back, lifting a brow. He really was something else, wasnât he?
Not a word, though. He just kept on walking, expecting the redhead would catch up soon enough.
When Zelos realized that no attention had been paid to his melodramatic outburst, he brushed it off with a sigh and followed after Veigue. This guy. Where was he supposed to find entertainment when he barely got a rise?
"Don't worry, man. Even if you ignore me, I won't take offense. It's not like you hurt my feelings or anything." A disastrous attempt at passive-aggressiveness, lovely.
