For the moment I am really very, very tired of everything — more than tired.
— Friedrich Nietzsche

Just some of the titles I’ve read recently by black authors that I found incredibly informative and moving. I have studied (and personally love) the work of Jesmyn Ward, and also recommend Citizen by Claudia Rankine (not pictured above). Citizen is a great text that looks at microaggression and the experiences of black people witthin the United States through poetry. I also recently ordered ‘The New Jim Crow’ by Michelle Alexander and am constantly working to educate and inform myself of both my own privelige and the racism that persists in today’s society - so if you have any other book recommendations, please leave them in the comments! Let’s work together to share resources, books and knowledge to educate ourselves to try and resolve this problem, because Black Lives Matter.
People are saying this in a scold-y way so here's it being said in a reminder-y way:
Double check every video and photo before you reblog. Protesters' images should only be circulated if they have full facial coverings. The police and white supremacists use these photos to find and kill these folks extrajudicially. We need to learn from the mistakes we made during Ferguson and before. We need to protect our comrades as best we can.
The Issues Extend Deeper Than What Is Being Shown
The most comprehensive link to donations, petitions, resources and information. Silence is compliance in violence.
A list of misinformation that’s being spread, please check that things are true before you repost/reblog them
To all my black followers and friends, stay safe.
Also, I would like to add that black lives have always mattered, will always matter.
It’s awful that we even have to say that because it should be a given. However, we need to say it loud and clear for the racists.
We cannot be silent.
Potent minimalist art sends a strong message about police and vigilante brutality in America
Journalist and artist Shirin Barghi has created a gripping, thought-provoking series of graphics that not only examines racial prejudice in today’s America, but also captures the sense of humanity that often gets lost in news coverage. Titled “Last Words,” the graphics illustrate the last recorded words by Brown and other young black people — Trayvon Martin, Oscar Grant and others — who have been killed by police in recent years.
Let us not forget their voices

This has been getting a lot of notes but if you can reblog the version with the link to donate that would be appreciated!
