“ unclaimed by vexation will help you from this state. annoyances & irritations will only set you further lost among your labyrinth. “
who the fuck SAYS that god i love yuou so much maya I LOVE YOU
you’re beautiful when you cry.
the words ring through your ears. well done, she said. with a smile on her face, too.
there’s a sort of bitterness that stirs inside in reply. you don't dare look back at her.
❛ ne pas. ❜ your voice chokes, lacking the venom you want to come out; a last-minute wall up to protect your own self-loathing from the stare of a goddess, however non-judging it seemed to be. you don't sound mad like you want to. even that, you never succeed in the face of her.
why is it always her? what is it of her imposing aura that keeps you from the heights you've reached ever since you were a child? what is it about her that pushes you off the tower, over and over? really, is she claire or is she the star that blinded you?
you stand up and let go of your spark of pride, the one thing left to hold you to the ground, after the fall.
then, with tears, ❛ just… get out of my way. ❜
‘ ... saijo - san ... ? ‘ you recoil, physically. your hand quickly returning to your side. the olive branch that you ever so delicately offered to the girl, overlayed with a thin transparency of glass, snaps & shatters below you ; the blonde only ever discarding your gestures.
slowly your features fall, back to the neutrality that you have adorned oh so many times. why bother showing an inkling of care if she is only to throw it away --- if rivalry is all she’ll respond to, then rivalry is what she will get.
‘ wakarimasu. ‘ your voice lowered, eyes cascaded down, before your head raises, looking down on the girl before you. ‘ forgive my arrogance, saijo-san, but I will not be moving. ‘
your hand runs through your hair --- allowing the ever so delicately groomed silk flick in the air momentarily, before falling to your sides once more.
‘ Claudine Saijo , for every victory there is a failure. one can only climb for so long before they reach top star, & once there, what is left ? a descent before the climb again. learning to be unclaimed by vexation will help you from this state. annoyances & irritations will only set you further lost among your labyrinth. clear all else except for what you aim for. ‘ when she rises, you fall, your hand gently touching the ground --- touching position zero.
‘ you have fought well for this position, grant yourself that luxury. but you will find yourself displeased if you expect me to heed a warning of leaving your sight, leaving your path. ‘ you stand, your button glinting in the spot light.

lumenchanges ; flora.
your foot tapping on the floor is the metronome that sets the tempo of your own feelings about all this. it waits for a song, it waits for a dance.
you stop it the moment she looks at you, eye-to-eye.
in any other day, this would prompt you to smile and stretch out your hand. you two have always been connected, that’s the magic of your performances with her—the gall to look at a goddess and play along.
even if it meant playing along to divine tricks.
there’s a bit of hesitance, now, and you two can’t go a few steps without a step on your foot, a slam against your side, and, god forbid, a hit against your still-recovering arm. she’s the lead, why have you been the one getting hurt? why have you been the one getting hurt, if all you’ve ever done was to follow her, support her? it’s as if you two’ve never danced together. like you don’t know how to dance with her anymore.
like you don’t know her anymore.
there’s an ache—you’re not sure if it’s on your chest or your arm again. it hurts.
❛ of course i do, idiot. ❜ the warm passion that flowed through your words has seemingly disappeared into thin air. it seems the cold tone has changed allegiance. ❛ you think me a fool to find bliss in ignorance? ❜
it hurts.
❛ do i not deserve the real reason, maya? is that it? ❜ if it were any other day… ❛ do you think i’ve not earned the right for closure? is that how you want me, clueless and happy with it all? ❜
you’re always, always yearned. even this, she cannot reach. always, always maya. you walk to her and put a hand on her shoulder.
❛ tell the truth, m’amie. you don’t really have anything left to lose. ❜
…it hurts, so, so bad.
her words are cold, cutting --- rightfully so, you suppose. yet your own irritations bubble, you were showing love, were you not ? were you not treating her differently, as she does to you ?
you’re not blind to her treatment of you, even before you had begun to reciprocate. she has always treated you as an outlier.
‘ the truth. ‘ you mirror. you have nothing left to lose --- but did you ever gain anything ? ( you know the answer ; you’re simply afraid its true, you did lose it. )
you take a step back, allowing the girl’s arm to fall into the air, whether she keeps it suspended, or allows it to fall down to her side doesn’t bother you --- you begin to shine with the light of sin.
‘ "If you pluck a small star, you will obtain a small amount of happiness.” ‘ you reach your right arm out to the side, your gaze longing for it --- the approval of a mother. ‘ “If you pluck a large star, you will obtain a large wealth.” ‘ your left arm raises, leaving you open for the girl as your head rolls to where you reach for the fame of being with Yanagi Koharu.
you take a small breath in, a pause alight in the air --- it washes over the two of you, before you gaze back over to Claudine Saijou, both your arms coming together to reach for her --- just out of reach of her hands
‘ “If you pluck both of them, you will obtain an eternal wish" ‘
You take one last step backwards, the cool feeling of the tile wall against your back --- one hand still outstretched towards Claudine, while the other falls to your side. you keep your silence, the line falling into a distant ring in your ears. the stage girl you’ve become, ablaze with passion & shine shows through ; you are tendo maya.
‘ Clair who fought against all odds to face the memories, the feelings, she felt --- despite her fear of what she learnt, what she had been taught to feel. ‘ your arms wrap around yourself, holding you tightly, eyes casted downwards, away from the light as hair falls to cover your face when you crouch down --- such a submissive pose.
‘ it doesn’t strike you odd that I have suddenly changed when Yanagi Koharu showed up ?! doesn’t it make you wonder why !? ‘ you straighten up, arms flying outwards, posture straightening. ‘ to the one, Flora, that I have yearned to feel what she feels, to Flora ; the one who never swayed from Claire’s side !? ‘
you hold yourself again, turning your back to Claudine, unable to look her in the eyes.
‘ fine. since you are so insistent on learning the real reason why, Saijou-San, I will indulge your wishes --- your sins. ‘ your voice is cold.
‘ the thought of Yanagi Koharu fighting you, the thought of her taking the anger out of me leaving her side onto you, the one who has never left me --- the one who has tried to teach me the proper way to feel ‘ FREEZE. you stop in your tracks, your body lurched over once more ; all movement that you were so vibrant with beforehand has leeched from you.
‘ its something I couldn’t bare. something I can’t. so I push, I push, I push. I push Flora from the tower, again & again, a sign of betrayal, only to say to her face that it was to test her trust, her abilities, when she rises the tower once more ---- so I push, once more. harsher, & harsher ... ‘ you still do not move. ‘ in hopes that this time, she doesn’t have to face the stars that will blind her, in hopes that Yanagi Koharu will not look towards your light, will not decide that you are the one who is deserving of her wrath. ‘
slowly your back straightens, you do not look towards her.
‘ why . ‘ your voice is small. ‘ why continue coming back. ‘ silently you look directly up, allowing your hair to fall away from your face, aimlessly looking to where no one is waiting for you --- to the stars.
‘ why won’t you let me protect you from them. ‘

its sudden, your stop. the stairs signifying another moment where tendou maya truly shows ; where passion overcomes body. her persistent questions, her lack of ability to read between the lines. why you acted irrationally, why you refused to allow her to shine in the light --- why you lost to her on purpose. of course it wouldn’t have been for something so flimsy to test Saijou Claudine’s powers. You know her limits, you know her strengths.
you have no reason to test them further.
yet your pride bites, it stings --- holding you captive in your body. you cannot correct her on why you did these things, you cannot take back the flimsy lie you once told. your pride doesn’t allow it.
your pride never changes.
‘ Saijou-San. Do you really want to know the answer why. ‘ you turn, hair falling neatly to your sides, skirt gently billowing. You frown, your fists balling tightly --- perhaps too tightly. your voice raises, losing your facade --- this is tendo maya. ‘ do you believe that knowing will change anything that happened, anything that was experienced !? the past doesn’t change, Saijou Claudine. ‘
you take one step down.
‘ The reason for my coldness when we first met. the reason why my I dismissed you the moment she showed up ?! ‘ you don’t say her name in the same breath as Claudines. ‘ why I staked everything, joining their side !? do you really want to know, or would you rather stay in contentment with the excuse I gave you ?! ‘
your steps match your tone, loud, quick. bringing you back to the stair just above the blonde girl.
‘ nothing changes my actions, or my feelings for why I did them. so tell me ... do you really want to know why ... ‘
‘ ... why I risked your trust in me ? after everything ? ‘ & like a music box slowly dying, your tone drops, it wavers. it shakes & buckles, your heat gone --- your throat dry.
finally, you take one final step down, on her landing. you stand in full. you don’t show your intentions, you simply stand on equal ground with her, no smile to be found ; despite how you wore one that one fateful time. seriousness grasps your soul, threatening to break you.
@lumenchanges do you really want to know ?
... she’s perusing the cake section .
❛ ow. ❜ the deadpan contrasts the pure viscerality your pain shows in your face . ❛ hurts, tendou, hurts. ❜ your lip is bruised by your chewing , to keep the urge to yell away .
the wound still overwhelms itself with waves of hurt , from time to time . days of being in the infirmary bed (nursed by her of all people) makes it all the more sore . it aches as if it’s your heart , pierced by the passion of maya tendou .
the irony , you’re all too cognizant about .
❛ you’ll do well without the harshness, mon cheri. ❜ it’s a hiss , one shot with the usual frustration your voice holds . ❛ i don’t care how much you want me as a stretch partner back, keep patient. calm and collected, remember? but i guess you don’t actually know all about that, i would know. ❜ …a few beats pass , but the sudden feel of awkwardness made it seem like an eternity . ❛ i can’t exactly fault you for that, now can i? ❜ you wanted the moment of silence to be an apology , and it never hurts to have a vocal backup . @pridechanges
hands carefully dance across her side, replacing bandages, checking on the stitches . ensuring none have fallen out.
you’re silent, your comment falling flat on her ears. did she not understand your outstretched branch ? you want her back ; that was your apology, but you suppose she’s allowed to keep her anger tight.
though, the battle ! the roaring of metal on metal, was it not beautiful ? pushing one another to their limits, improving their strategies ... all of it ! the duel of lovers in secrecy, a play within itself, something worthy of being written on the stage ... yours & claudine, the tragedy of the century.
yet she mentions it ... the mother, a dish towards her careful care --- your face twists for a moment. eyes squint towards the other, a hand tightening the bandages perhaps just too harshly. ‘ would you like to elaborate on what you mean, Saijou-San ? ‘
blindchanges .
“I suppose so! It’s fairly easy to understand, if you’re me I think.” Nana laughs, cradling her cup of tea with bare palms. The hot ceramic burns her skin, but she stopped being bothered by that kind of thing a long time ago.
It’s funny, sometimes, when her classmates say such things. They don’t even know the half of it. The only person who knows about her replays is her and her alone. If Nana didn’t know better, the way Maya speaks… she almost sounds knowing. But the odds of that are low, and Maya is a good enough actress to hide her veiled intentions.
Then again, the Giraffe loves to shake things up every now and then.
That’s no reason to assume the worst, though. She learned early on that rash anxiety could lead to messed up timelines, so she prefers not to suspect her fellow classmates until they confront her themselves. “I don’t think it’s all that special. I just love watching everyone else ———— it’s only natural that I pick up on things.”
‘ You’re right, I just cannot help but comment on it. ‘ the smile never leaves your face as you speak, eyes darting downwards to the cup your so called friend drinks from. hot, isn’t it ? she never flinches at these sort of things.
hair falls as your head tilts ever so softly, hands neatly on your lap.
‘ Daiba-San, what exactly have you noticed about everyone ? your attentiveness ... forgive me if this sounds ill intentioned on my behalf, but ... it leaves me weary. if you notice the quirks, the good, & the beautiful, then you must notice the paramours to those, correct ? ‘
you begin to stir your tea, allowing the spoon to delicately click against the walls of the cup --- you do not look up yet.
‘ It’s rather ... unsettling . the things you know. things you shouldn’t know, yet you do. attentiveness reaps rewards, this much is true, & you have reaped them, haven’t you ? ‘
your eyes finally whisk upwards, your clicking stops. absolute silence reigns over the two of you --- the smile you feigned drops. eyes are unwavering, unmoving.
‘ So, please, indulge me in an answer. ‘ when did your voice become so hollow, so devoid of life ? ‘ what stage did you wish for, top star ? ‘
hikari: maya: i've come to make an announcement: hikari kagura's a bitch-ass motherfucker, she got my fucking role. that's right, she took her grubby little hands out and she stole my fucking role, and she said her shine was "this big," and i said "that's disgusting," so i'm making a callout post on my twitter.com: hikari kagura, you've got no shine, it's the size of claudine saijou's self esteem except WAY smaller. and guess what? here's what my shine looks like: that's right baby, all talent, no stolen brilliance, no giraffe— look at that, it looks like two stars and a tower. she stole my role, so guess what, i'm gonna yell in the HALLWAY. that's right, this is what you get: MY SUPER LOUD VOICE!! except i'm not gonna yell on the hallway, i'm gonna go higher; i'm yelling AT THE STAGE CREW! how do you like that, junna? I YELLED AT TEAM B, YOU IDIOT! you have twenty-three hours before the teachers hear my fucking scream, now get outta my fucking sight, before i yell at you too!!!!!
‘ ... you’re very intuitive, aren’t you, Daiba-San ? ‘
you give a small smile to the taller girl, legs crossed as you sit across from her. tea ripples when you put the delicate cup down, not a noise leaving the set as you do. when eyes land on her, you purposefully allow the lights to glint from you, perhaps intimidating, perhaps not.
you keep the usual air about you.
‘ you have always impressed me with how you know each of us so well ... to the point of what we’re going to say. very considerate of you, to be so thoughtful of your friends. ‘
upon the stage you are top star. but outside you’re nothing but a girl, isn’t that right, Daiba-San?
@blindchanges
dangerously your sword glints in the light of the stage --- your sword swiftly cutting through rope & fabric. ever softly your wrist turns, careful to not cut a hair, or cut a piece of skin, of the girl before you. your eyes never left hers through the fight --- not having to focus on her movements, you have always been connected to the other, knowing what each mindful step would be.
& as silence roars through the empty stadium, curtains lazily falling here & there, you take your rightful spot, your sword gracefully kissing the floor. your eyes finally tear from hers, towards the lonesome giraffe, who wordlessly watches your figure.
‘ position, zero. ‘ echoing, your voice rings out in the stadium. ‘ this is, Tendou Maya. ‘
at long last, as the curtains close the two of you away from the viewer, you look over to your fallen angel, a hand outstretched to her --- your lips turned upwards for her.
‘ well done, Saijo-San. ‘
