Final day of FMP! 22/05/2015.
Today is the final day of the fmp project. I’ll mainly be doing my evaluation and then uploading my final render.

Rendering!
Car is now on a second render as there was some things that went wrong with the first one.
Evaluation
This project was our Final Major Project, on this project we had a choice of doing anything we wanted to show what we had learned over the 2 years to the best of our ability. I chose to go with modelling a car, something i hadn’t done before but something i’ve wanted to do for a while and it was also nice too have a challenge.Â
The first task was research, this is a very important stage of the project, especially for me as I’d never modelled a car before. As this was my first time modelling a car, I spent a lot of time watching tutorial videos about seperate parts of the model, e.g tires. Doing research is always a good idea anyway, as it allows you to discover what you’re going to need for the project and sometimes you’ll realise you need things you would have never known you needed. Overall I’d say research was definitely helpful for me, it gave me methods of doing things that i would have never thought of.
The next task was the proposal. It was pretty much the same as any other proposal, except as this was my FMP, i tried my best to get it to a professional standard. Getting it up to a professional standard meant really going into detail and making it so if someone  were to read your proposal, they could make the thing you have imagined.
Now the big one, production. After watching some tutorials before starting I figured I’d go start modelling my car. The car itself was harder to create than expected. Something as simple as the roof of the car, could be harder than you’d expect and that’s just a simple plane. Also, if the reference images were not lined up to near perfection, it could cause problems in the long run. I definitely came along some problems, some even caused me to just completely restart the project, even a couple of times. The first problem i came across was lining up the reference images, at first i was sure they had been lined up properly but after modelling for a good couple of hours, something just wouldn’t line up, so I started again with hope that I would lien up the images this time. Although I can’t remember right now, I’m sure there is a previous post which explains why I started again for a third time. Third time lucky as this was the attempt that made it too the end and in my opinion went quite well, I still had problems but that was always expected as this was my first car model. Now, texturing has never been one of my favourite nor best spots on this course and I think it really showed on this model, I feel like even if I’m happy with the initial model my texturing skills always seem to bring it down a notch in looks in my opinion. Something that was a huge, huge problem was I accidentally  extruded the whole car without realising which meant everything was doubled up and made everything much more hard work, i tried so many things too fix this and couldn’t and with the time remaining nd the progress i had made, i just chose to deal with the problem instead of starting again for the fourth time.
Rendering as a whole i came across some problems which caused me to have to render to project THREE times, this was first due to a lighting error, which was actually easily fixed in 5 minutes. another problem with the render they for some reason refuses to fix no matter how hard i try was a piece of the model just being in the wrong place when i render it, I still have no idea what caused this and have sadly run out of time to correct it. That problem made me redo the render which turned out to be pointless as i tried fixing it but the final render still showed it.
My final conclusion for tis  project is that I enjoyed modelling my car but it was a challenge and definitely not without its problems. I would happily model a car again, learning from my mistakes and hopefully doing a better job next time and I will know about the problems that can happen next time. I am happy with the final result but feel like i could have done much better.
Here’s the final render for my 3d model. I’m happy with the final result.
Almost there! just a bit more texturing to do and i will need to play around with the lighting a bit more but after that, it’ll be done.
the model is complete now. I will now texture it and give it a rusty metal kind of texture.
What I’ve done today in debs session, hopefully should get near to completing it, maybe even complete it. This version is unsmoothed right now, will need to touch it up before it can be smoothed. I’ve added the bumpers detail to the bonnet, windows and the minigun.Â
Managed a fair bit of progress today, its almost ready to be a whole car! Next session I will be adding a snow plough and possible even a mini gun, yes it sounds crazy, because it is.
This is my tire that ive created in todays session, took longer than you’d think.
The second image is ambient occlusion with a sample of 128, took 7:08 minutes to render but i’d say it was worth it and I’m happy with the results.Â
Tutorial for modeling a tire.
Found this tutorial for creating a tire, found it useful and it points out some useful tips.

Goals for todays session.
Today i plan on creating the wheels for my car. If i manage to do this with some time left over then i’ll be continuing to model the rest of the car.
Finsished my showreel in Oli’s session, I’ll upload it next time as i need to decrease the size of the file.
Everything you’re seeing in these screenshots i have done today. I decided to start again as the other one just seemed like it was just going far too wrong, i blame mainly my arranging of the image planes which meant the images were different sizes from different angles which in the end meant it had become very confusing. The one I started today in my opinion is MUCH better ad I’m happy and pretty certain that this will be the final model.
The blueprints I’m using to guide me on my 3D model.
Today I’ve been trying out using image planes as a guide for my modelling, I’ve found this to be a great way to stay as accurate as possible to the original design of the car.
What I did in Deb’s
I added what 3D vehicles are used for in the industry as well as adding images of meshes for cars,
