“Cat got your tongue?” Onto his second lollipop for the night, Sanzu searched for your face while you walked the dimly lit alleys of Athalen. The crinkle of the plastic as he kept it inside his pockets resonated over the silence, trying to tinge the spilling thoughts inside your mind. 

Why is it that whenever you gather a sliver of the puzzle, more broken pieces pops out? 

You stared at the path before you, oblivious to the nasty sounds coming from different directions. Your feet dragged heavily, as though they were made of lead. All you could think of was Kazutora’s contract and how it formed more questions than answers. 

What was the business of your father’s name and signature being printed on that document? He bought Kazutora. He was a Kyrva and he served your father before. That much you could conclude because you would’ve known if he still served your family. There was no trace of any Kyrva when you came back from the hospital. 

“This is all confusing,” you sighed, exhaustion and frustration making your eyes hot to the sides. You could feel it: your time was running out. 

Sanzu sucked on his lollipop before responding, “Why? You’ve got the answer ya want. He’s a Kyrva.”

“It answered none of my questions!” You turned to him with a furious stomp of your foot. Time was a luxury you could barely afford. And more puzzles appeared tonight that you could physically feel your chances slipping out of your grasp like sands. “Why would my— I mean why did Mr. Alexis hire him?”

You bit your tongue. Nobody had to know about your identity aside from Baji. There was just too much to lose.
