Cornelia closed her eyes, her feet firmly planted on the ground as she tried to find any connection to earth. She could feel it, of course, but there was no way to use her powers here. “There’s not a single, tiny, solitary plant around here.” She grumbled. “And I doubt an earthquake would be of much help right now!”
Forest green, it reminds her of her connection to the earth. She also really likes mustard yellow because it brings out her hair and eyes.

Book
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen is definitely her favorite book, but The Beautiful and Damned by Fitzgerald is a close second.

If he was being honest, he found himself at a brief loss for words. “No.” Lucien smiled. “Not as lucky as I am to be able to look at yours; though I would argue it to be more of a blessing.” He could feel his heart pick up at her reply; he didn’t remember the last time he had felt at ease with another person– well, at least not in that sense. “I do appreciate that.” It seemed like she enjoyed herself as much around him, it made him all the more eager to spend as much time with Cornelia as possible. “Well, I am a passionate fan of Agatha Christie’s novels. There will be a murder mystery event based off on some of her works; it is not the first time they arrange it but I have never attended.” Lucien took a small breath, hoping he didn’t sound like a complete dork with such an idea… he said the next best thing he could, the truth. “I would love to go with you.” Alright perhaps too much truth in that, Tremaine. He cleared his throat and gave Cornelia a skittish smile. “Of course, it is simply an idea. I could make any new arrangements to suit your fancy.” He chuckled softly. “You sound like a lawyer. Why should I stop you from having such amusement?” Lucien drank almost half the glass, he didn’t expect a liquid served in a place like that to be so palatable. “I do have to ask, what brought you here? If it was the music… I might need to finish this first.” He teased, already more relaxed than he had been all week.
“Smooth.” Corny simply replied, offering him a wink and a little smile that lately she’d been saving just for him. She was still a little surprised at her luck, haven’t run into him here. She listened to him, trying to pace down her excitement at the prospect of spending tonight with him, maybe in more ways than one. Her feet were softly dangling and she let one of them run against his leg, making sure to keep the heel of her sandal away from him. “That sounds like a lot of fun, actually. Why have you never attended?” She asked curiously. Leaning back against her seat, she let her eyelashes flutter down for a moment before focusing her eyes on his. “Are you sure?” She asked, moving closer to him again. “Because I’d hate to see you lose, even if it’s to me.” She joked. “I would love to go to the party with you.” Cornelia added after a beat. She took a sip of her drink and considered this. “After doing it for so long and so often it can honestly become such a tiresome endeavour.” The blonde confessed. There was a weird kick to her drink that she couldn’t quite place, but it wasn’t bad per se, so she decided to keep drinking it. “A celebration of sorts. I was involved in some disciplinary and legal matters the Garden Centre was facing and they finally settled today.” She replied calmly, taking another sip of the glass. She was more than halfway through it now, how had that happened?
Typically Bernie Berlioz was one of the first teachers at Ancora University to jot his name down for summer availability. He genuinely enjoyed spreading his knowledge onto hungry minds, and usually, his students were putting requests in for his summer courses. This year, though, Bernie did not jot his name down nor put any available courses up because he had decided this would be the summer he actually took some much needed time for himself and explored what Costa Serena had to offer. Of course, his students were a little disappointed, but after he promised not to throw any surprise quizzes at them (if they chose to take his course) next semester for three weeks, they were okay again.
The first couple of weeks were miserable. It had struck Bernie in those weeks that he needed to be more social outside of his relationships with coworkers and students. His piano? That would always take priority, and he would never feel guilty for spending any time with it. It was, after all, the light in his life that brings him back from the darkness. Regardless of his initial struggle to find activities for him to do, he did eventually find his rhythm with everything. After that, there were many days spent at the beach, the movie theatre, day drinking, and he even tried yoga one week. Yoga, though, had proven not to be his cup of tea.
Today, Bernie found himself spending the second part of his day at the Harbor Carnival. It had been on his “Summer Bucket List,” but either he was too worn out from the beach to go, or he got sidetracked with his buddies at night to remember to go. Luckily, tonight it was a different story. He was enjoying the lights that illuminated from all the rides, snack stands, and even some of the attendees with glow sticks here and there. He had been about to grab something to eat when he came across a ride that caught his attention, so he stopped to examine it a bit. It looked exciting, a bit scary, but overall something he wasn’t entirely sure he wanted to try alone. Then, as if some unknown force had made his decision, a stranger came up next to him, and without looking over, he asked,” Do you think that it’s as fun as it looks or it’s just lying to me?” He chuckled a bit, “Also, do you think it’s something to ride alone, or should I just grab something to eat?”
Cornelia had been around The Pier with a group of friends from the Garden Centre but at some point the rush of people and the smell of fried food and sweat and iron had started to make her sick. She was trying to pull her long hair in a high ponytail to keep it out of her face, the smell of smoke already clearly imprinted in it. Her eyes moved to focus on the older man when she realized he was talking to her. “Oh... I have no idea, I would not go into that ride. Just based off the ricketing and the sounds, I would not feel safe doing so.” She replied. She was about to keep walking and hopefully make it home before the smell settled on her clothes, but she decided to stay and talk to him. She had nothing better to do, after all. But she was definitely not going on one of those old rollercoasters. “I am not going on that but I can spot you if you’d like. Call 911 if it falls apart.” She half-joked.
“Yeah! I don’t like eating in restaurants like this alone anyway so you would be doing me a favor too by taking it from me.”, Gadget admitted in hopes of making the blonde say yes to her offer. “Are you sure? I don’t want to get in the way of your night alone if that is what she wanted.” But she would be lying if the idea did not sound nice to her not only because it definitely beats cooking for herself again but also because it would be nice to not be alone on a Friday night for once.
“Oh, please, you wouldn’t!” Corny replied breezily. “I was actually supposed to have this dinner with my dad but his flight got canceled.” She explained. “So I decided to come in on my own just to make sure the reservation didn’t go to waste.” She smiled, pushing her straightened blonde hair back. “Turns out the reservation never even existed apparently.” The smell of warm food and the melodic sound of glasses clinking came from the room. “And I’d love to have dinner with you.” The blonde added.
Because of her parents bailed on their dinner again, Gadget was alone in this fancy restaurant and she really did not want to be. However, it would be a waste to cancel the reservation made under her parents’ name. When she heard the girl in front of her getting angry at the hostess, she took this as her way out. “Hi, it’s okay!”, she said with a smile on her face that was directed towards both the blonde and the hostess. “If you want, you can take my reservation. My companions are not coming anyway so I can head home.”
Cornelia would lie if she said she wasn’t surprised by the offer. She could tell this girl was one of those genuinely nice people that was harder and harder to find. “Seriously?” She asked, bitting her lip in thought. She was till annoyed that her reservation had been set aside even if she’d made it over a week ago... “Oh, but I couldn’t. Come with me, we’ll have dinner together on your reservation and I’ll treat you to drinks or dessert.” She offered, it sounded more fun than having dinner alone, anyway. And she had her dad’s new credit card.
“I had never considered myself to be a lucky man.” Lucien’s chuckle was low but not imperceptible. “If you would allow me to monopolize your time, we could share tomorrow morning.” He was vaguely aware his words could be taken another way– for once, he decided to roll his dice. “Actually, would you happen to be available the following weekend as well?” His eyes were fixated on Cornelia, there had not been a moment where he didn’t felt absolutely mesmerized just by her presence. “No, not anymore. Am I keeping you?” Lucien didn’t take notice of the drinks the bartender had placed at their reach, his mind found itself in a pleasurable haze and didn’t feel like thinking through on whether they’d already had ordered or not; could be something on the house. He handed Cornelia her drink before taking the other for himself, raising the glass. “Cheers, to you.”
“Really?” Cornelia asked, her head moving to the side as her eyes appraised his face. “You were born with that face and didn’t consider yourself lucky?” She quirked an eyebrow at him, her smile turning into a little smirk for a couple of seconds, before she replied. “That sounds like a nice way to monopolize me.” She was a little surprised that he was already asking to see her again, but she liked the idea of actually going on a planned date with him. She was hoping it was a date, at least. “I can make time.” She replied, playing with a long lock of her hair. “Why? What did you have in mind?” Her eyes moved to gaze at the crowd, she’d come here from a group of kids from her classes, but she had no problem ditching you. “No, I’m all yours. Entertain me please, before I start mentally criticising the crowd here.” The blonde noticed the glasses and wondered if Lucien had ordered them and when, but she didn’t give them much thought. “Cheers!” She replied, taking a couple of long sips for courage and good luck.
He’d been alone at the bar for twenty minutes now, mulling over the idea that he now apparently enjoyed beer. Usually, Lucien would avoid places like this; the music was ear-splitting bad and he could only go so long without murdering whomever had stepped on his shoe– still, it was in his best interest to save face and join the associates that had spent all week working for him. The slight press against his body made his jaw clench, ready to tell off whomever had– “Cornelia Hale.” His face broke into a relaxed smile and turned so he could face her completely. “Should we? I must admit I am growing fond of our fortuitous encounters.” Lucien, more at ease than he was used to, placed his hand over Cornelia’s and allowed himself to slightly lean in before resuming. “Would you care to share a drink with the man whose day you have irreversibly improved?”
Corny tensed for a moment, not sure if she’d just made a fool of herself with her fake move or if she should retire her hand, but she made sure to keep the lopsided smile on her face. “In the flesh.” She replied, her eyes focusing on the bright blue of his. “Are you? I myself am not sure, maybe we should work on making our meetings less fortuitous and more foreseeable.” She replied with a quick wink. “I would love to.” She replied, noticing the warmth of his hand over hers and just how close the two of them were. “Are you here alone?” She inquired.
“This is preposterous! I made that reservation weeks ago and I intend to get my table.” Cornelia said with an angry sigh. “If your staff messed up the times that is not on me, I have it here on my calendar and I’m sorry but I simply cannot come back later.” She pushed her hair behind her ears and looked around angrily, noticing a woman standing behind her. “Sorry if I’m keeping you from your table, I’m just trying to get mine without any more trouble.” She aplogized quickly.
The flashing lights were seconds away from giving her a headache, so Cornelia did what any good partygoer would do and ordered another shot. She was hoping it would at least be worth it. She noticed the familiar dapper figure in the crowd and quickly downed her drink, snaking near him. She didn’t know if it was her drunkenness or something else, but instead of approaching him directly, like she usually would, she simply stood in the line at the bar beside him. After a moment, when she hoped he’d either just seen her or was about to, she let her shoulder press against his and pretended to look on in surprise. “I apologize... Lucen Tremaine. We have to stop running into each other like this.” She said with a smile, placing a hand on the arm she’d just bumped into.

Elena was getting frustrated. No matter how hard she tried she could not control the volleyball the way she wanted to. Distracted, she accidentally hits it in the wrong direction, right towards an unsuspecting victim. “Watch out!” she called.
Corny looked up just in time to see the ball hurling towards her. “Oh my god...” She lifted her arm just in time to deflect it. She looked down guiltily, noticing a couple of vines had quickly sprouted up and were holding onto her legs. “What happened?” She asked testily, smoothing her hair down.
“It is,” she grinned back. Raph brushed the tiniest tear away with the back of her hand before continuing, proud of herself for teaching Corny a new trick. “Okay, okay,” she said, continuing to chop. Every so often she’d hold her eyes close to the water again, blinking the sting out of them. “I’m a garlic fiend,” she said, as if she was admitting to a crime she’d committed. “Sometimes people tell me I use too much garlic. But I don’t think that’s a thing.” Her eyes slowly shut as she inhaled the rustic aroma of the charred tomatoes. “I’m so excited. It smells amazing.”
Corny giggled. “I’m a garlic fiend too, in my case I think it’s a family thing? Or an Italian thing, I don’t even know.” She grinned. “Let’s do three cloves then and we add more if we feel like it needs more, I’ve got garlic salt too.” Corny looked down and decided they would be ready in a minute. “Al right, let me get my blender out to be ready.” She said happily. “I’m so glad we’re having this cute night in and you’re telling me your amazing her secrets.” She said happily, setting up the blender and moving the tomatoes from the blender.
“I can still be sunlight Barbie without the magic golden hair,” Raphi protested, crossing her arms over her chest. “I cry too, but I learned a trick that helps when I’d cook back in Seattle,” Raphi flicked on the kitchen sink, making sure to turn it to the hot setting. “Watch and learn,” she grinned, grabbing an onion from the counter and a knife from the block. The girl began chopping the onion, and as soon as she felt her eyes start to sting, she held her face over the sink, allowing the steam to clear her eyes. “It’s tedious,” she sighed, “but it works.”
“Of course, because the true sunshine is within you.” Cornelia replied in a cheesy voice, still, she meant it. She stared at her friend, lifting an eyebrow in doubt, but her mouth fell open when she saw it seemed to work. “Alright...Well, thank you, I definitely will be using that trick next time. But for now, you chop the onions and two cloves of garlic and I’ll start working on the tomatoes.” She replied with a smile, throwing a little rock salt and olive oil in a pan and placing the tomatoes over it so the skin would roast a little.
“True be fair not a lot of people willingly walk up to me even in a public space.”
“Well, honestly I wasn’t walking over to you, just to an open table near you.” She pointed out, blowing on her nails one last time before starting to carefully pile her things to move to the other table. “i never guessed that decision would bring all of these shenanigans.”
“Yeah, whatever,” Raphi giggled. “I’d trade you any day.” Raphi watched in silent awe as Corny wielded her power. She hummed in delight. “My two favorite things.” Nodding, she hopped up from the bed. “How can I help?”
“Would you?” Corny asked, looking at her friend. “I wouldn’t want you to be anyone but your sunlight barbie self.” She grinned. “This is shaping up to be a pretty great evening.” She looked around the kitchen carefully. “Okay... So how good are you at whole onion chopping thing? Because I basically bawl my eyes out.”
