Working on Pumpkin's room for the demo.
Still playing with dungeon entrances. I like how it turned out.
Not a huge update, but I made some small houses for the gnomes to live in. They didn't like the caves.
Made tall grass and pots. Started working on gnome village.
Friday Update:
Most of this week was working on Pumpkin's design since I'm still not 100% sold on it. I made a regular one and an armor upgrade version. As for dungeon stuff, I created an underground wall and floor tile, so now I have some variety to work with.
This is where they're handing out the free hugs, right? #princesspumpkin #gamedev #indiedev #8bit #gameart
Late Friday Update
I’ve been continuing to add tiles to my tile sheet and had to expand it to an entire screen of 400 x 240. Most of this week was working on a fence, some broken tiles, more grass, adding a recolor of the mountains, and making the winter scene I posted. I’ve found that a great way to figure out which new tiles I need to work on comes from just building a screen with what I’ve got. Then, I notice how bare it looks and think to myself “What would make this look better?” So far I’ve been pleased with the results.
Since its that time of the year anyway, here's some snowy weather. Also, bigger trees. #princesspumpkin #8bit #indiedev #gamedev
Finally far enough in development to start sharing screenshots of our game. Enjoy the beach! #princesspumpkin #indiedev #gamedev #8bit
Working on NPCs. Most of them are Gnomes. #princesspumpkin #8bit #indiedev #gamedev #gnomes
Friday Update
Currently working on the main entrance door for dungeons. My first attempt did not play nice with the dungeon walls. Back to the pixel board!
A mock up of the pause/inventory screen!
Rockberto! He’s invincible! And an enemy!
Shield Squid likes spiky hugs.
An amoeba enemy, because slimes are so blase.
Welcome!
Hello! My name is Randy Hudson and I’m part of a two man indie crew creating Princess Pumpkin, an 8-bit retro adventure inspired by the Legend of Zelda. We’ve been working on it for a while now (3 years) and I thought it was time to finally let the world in on our little secret.
I’m the artist, story, and general concept guy, so I plan to post art and screen shots (and even video when we get that far) so everyone can see what we’re up to. If you have a question about what we’re doing please ask! I would love to engage with anyone who loves games, game design, and game theory!
