charlotte felt like using this five days off to relax, by going to this cruise ship party. of course she was invited, and she couldn’t decline. this party was just tempting for her, to loosen up for just a short time, to just not think of work, the pressure she’s been feeling, and also, her mess of a personal life right now. drinking different kinds of liquor was a bad idea, but she couldn’t ever care less, there’s raymond who can assist her back to her room whatever happens.

“i’m not drunk, if that’s what you’re asking,” she said, turning to the person who’s put their hand on her shoulder. “i’m just…seeing which is the strongest drink.”

Tor had been happy to spot Charlotte aboard the ship. He didn’t really know the Vanderfords, and had only agreed to go because someone had convinced him it would be a good political move. It had been hard to tear himself away from his son, who was back at their hotel suite under the care of his nanny and some extra tight security. “My years at university would tell me to recommend the vodka” he said. “Not that I’m an expert, if that’s what you’re asking” he added with a grin.

Isabelle had always considered Tor as one of her close friends, although he was first and foremost her brother’s close friend. “Thank you; I’m off to the consulate, so of course I’d have to look my best,” she chuckled, accepting the compliment humbly. At the mention of Sibyl, the girl understood; of course she had heard of the woman ––- not only have Isabelle met her, but it was all her family could talk about for about a week since the news reached the palace of Monte Carlo. “I didn’t know Sibyl was here in New York,” Isabelle commented, but more to herself, really. “How are things between the two of you, if you don’t mind me asking?” The girl could relate well to him; she was not in New York to have fun just like the other times she would visit the city, but if she wants to stop letting things stress her out, she should figure out how to still enjoy herself while she’s there. She inhaled and smiled a little, “Diplomatic missions,” she shrugged, not exactly lying but it was not the entire truth either.

“Of course” Tor said with a smile. “Clothes always help make the right impression, after all.” Fortunately for Tor, he had people to help him figure out what to wear. Otherwise he’d probably be wearing sweatpants and t-shirts with comic book characters on them every day. “This is where she came when she left Norway” he said. “My lawyers have been in touch with hers, trying to settle things.” But trying to navigate the laws of two different countries was difficult and time-consuming. He hoped by being in America, it would move things along faster. “I haven’t even seen her yet” admitted Tor. “I’m hoping to try and get on better terms with her.” He didn’t see how they could get much worse. “But I’m not holding my breath.” He nodded in understanding. “I see they’re keeping you busy, then.”

         At the prospect of saying hi to her nephew, Frida beamed, quickly extending her arms to pick Kristian up from his father. “Hello, little one,” she said, smiling at the baby. “I’ve brought presents for you too. – Think I bought it on the wrong size, but you will grow." Frida nodded at the mention of the game, shuddering as she remembered all the times she was made to play soccer and field hockey. They always sent her to the bench, somehow. Clearing her throat, she looked at her brother before at the TV, smiling. "Of course we are. We Vikings have to stick together in trying times,” she joked, moving to sit down.

“I’m sure they will fit him eventually” said Tor. He suspected at least one of the items would have a humpback whale on it, and he’d be sure to get a photo of Kristian in it to share with the family. “Besides, its the thought that counts, right?” He was grateful Frida had thought of her nephew. While the royal family had welcome Kristian with open arms, he’d been surprised at the number of people in Norway who were upset at the idea of a child born out of wedlock possibly inheriting the throne someday. “We do. They need all our support, especially during the weirdness that is this world cup.”

He nodded his head looking at him. “ So there were no clues what so ever that she may try something like this?” He knew the Tor may start getting annoyed by his questions, but he couldn’t just go by what he assumed, he had to go by what he was told.

Tor could feel his headache getting worse. “No, there weren’t” he said, unable to keep the terse tone out of his voice now. “Look, whose side are you on?” The prince wasn’t a mind reader; how was he supposed to know his fiancee was going to try and take off with his son?

“i guess i’ll have to drive by givenchy sometime,” she said excitedly. charlotte took a mental note not to lose this one this time. “honestly i would do a movie if the actress is hot, but i’ll be a pain in the ass..and their art,” she laughed along. “i was watched all the time, back home. the only instance i would be finally alone is when i’m in the bathroom.” the two were now in front of the counter. “uh, hello, i’d like to have a double shot espresso. and..um, how about you lord of thunder?”

Tor laughed. “You and me both” he said. “I’d definitely do a movie if Olivia Wilde was my co-star, but I’d probably be so bad at it she’d cry.” Which was both amusing and a bit mortifying. “I think the only time I was able to be without my guard, aside from using the bathroom, was when I was in the army.” Even then, it wouldn’t have surprised him if someone there had been secretly assigned to keep an eye on him without him knowing. “That actually sounds delicious. I’ll have the same.” If there was one thing that Tor needed every day, it was his caffeine.

“tell me what brand are those, i need those kind of glasses,” she groaned in reply. charlotte had a habit of losing her sunglasses, remembering that she just lost one a few days ago. “a movie but the countess of inverness and the prince of norway? i would definitely watch that– and see how lame i am when it comes to acting,” she laughed. “i’d rather hide myself in the shadows than have my face everywhere, i’d prefer being invisible.”

“The best pair I ever owned were made by Givenchy” said Tor. They’d been expensive but worth it. “Oh, I shudder to think how I’d do as an actor. I’d probably flub my lines so often the director would quit out of frustration.” He shook his head and laughed. “That makes two of us. Unfortunately I don’t get many opportunities to blend in and be a regular person back in Norway.” It was one reason he’d been willing to come to this city in the first place.

Randy looked at him for a moment.”Are you saying that you’re still in love with her? If she just walked out or ended things suddenly we can use that.” He replied looking at the man.

Tor shook his head again. “I’m not still in love with her” he said. He was too mad at her right now for that. Not because she’d dumped him, but because she’d tried to take Kristian away from him. “But it did end very suddenly.” He still wasn’t entirely clear on why things had gone down the way they had.

“definitely good for blending in and hiding, but this season is not helping,” she nodded in agreement. her hoodie are very useful for her with hiding and slipping out of her loft to go do normal adult things, like going to the grocery store or shopping. she guess she’d have to acquire the thinner ones now. “you do?,” she smiled, as she received the male’s message. “black widow…i feel like this is marvel’s avengers: royals edition,” she chuckled.

“I think I’m gonna have to buy a really dark pair of sunglasses to hide behind” said Tor. He’d left his favorite pair back in Norway. They’d often come in handy, especially for protecting his eyes from camera flashes if the paparazzi did catch up with him. “Very much” he said with a smile and a nod. “Now there’s an interesting twist. I suspect it would be a huge box office success.” He chuckled as well. “Although I’m not sure I could handle that sort of pressure. If its hard enough to go outside now, imagine being an actor with your face on billboards.”

Even though he was always on his client’s side, Randy always had to ask them if there was anything they had done that could be used against them, as that way he’d be prepared when they went to court. “ No one is saying you aren’t that isn’t what this is about,  but the smallest and stupidest of things can land people in these situations, also if there was I’d need be prepared if it was ever brought up in court.”

Tor rubbed his temples. This conversation was giving him a headache. He often got one of those when talking about Sibyl these days. “I’ll be honest: I’m still not entirely sure what went wrong” he said. He’d thought he and Sibyl had been in love. But then she called things off so suddenly and was gone in the blink of an eye. “I haven’t seen her since she left Norway.” He shrugged.

“hit me with your best shot,” she replied with a grin. outside being a royal, charlotte had this cool aunt persona with her friends’ kids, they do get attached to her quickly, maybe because of her carefree vibe. “waaaay better, i’m slowly starting to regret that i wore this,” she said as she looked down on her nyu hoodie with a chuckle. as tor handed her back her phone, she thinks of a good name. “i’ll name you…lord of thunder,” she giggled. char then sends him a lightning emoji.

“Sweatshirts are good for blending in, but they are way too hot in this heat” agreed Tor. He was beginning to realize that New York City summers weren’t just hot, they were humid as well. The air was sticky. At the name, he smiled. “I like it” he said with an approving nod. He thought for a moment, wondering what clever name would work for Charlotte and go well. “Hmm.. Charlotte reminds me of the spider from that children’s book” he said slowly. “I think I’ll call you Black Widow.” He sent her back a spider emoji. 🕷️

        Walking through the street of New York had been a terrible idea, Frida mused as she stood in the elevators, her bodyguard staring at the closed doors. Driving would have been a wise idea, a voice that sounds much like her mother had been echoing it in the back of her mind as she tried to make her way through the sea of people. Her heart hammers against the confines of her chest still, even as she breathes in deeply, the warm air of the elevator doing nothing to soothe her nerves.

        Everything felt much like a blur, but when the doors opened, Frida jumped, a tremor running through her body as she blinked back into reality, quietly making her way to her brother’s room. She could feel the excitement replacing her nervousness, as if it was a flower quickly blooming during spring.

        She bounced back on the ball of her feet, a smile quickly growing once she was allowed entrance. When Tor wrapped his arms around her, Frida immediately did the same, hugging her brother back. A relieved sigh escaped her lips when she pulled away. “Tor. Oh Freya, how am I glad to see you. And I came to visit you, of course!” Her voice was laced with happiness and she took a step back, giggling. “I brought presents! Although –” Frida frowned, biting her bottom lip –“I may or may not have eaten the chocolate I bought for you.”

Tor chuckled at her answer. “Well, I suppose that’s a good enough reason” he said. “Especially if you brought presents.” At his sister’s face, he got worried. Until she explained why she was frowning. Laughing, he said “Don’t worry about it. American chocolate isn’t nearly as good, but somehow I wills survive.” He picked up Kristian and said “Come and say hi to your nephew. We were just about to watch Sweden and Germany play.” He figured she’d want to watch the game too, even if she’d never been much of an athlete herself. “We are cheering for Sweden, of course.” He gestured to the T-shirt he was wearing especially for the occasion. The Swedish flag was featured prominently on it.

“as much as i hate to admit it, i have a soft spot for children. you can show me those later, while we get these folks drunk,” she grinned, then noticed that they’re finally going inside the cafe. “at last,” she runs her hand through her hair, then checked on the menu. charlotte then hands her phone to the male. “here you go,” she smiled.

“Okay, but don’t say I didn’t warn you” said Tor. He was glad to have someone he could show his photos to. The guards weren’t the best at feigning interest. Stepping inside the cafe, Tor was relieved that it was air conditioned. “That’s much better” he said. The heat had been getting to him. “Thanks” he said, taking her phone and adding his contact info to it. Then he passed her phone back to her.

“definitely a giant one, good sir. you’re kind of…very tall,” she chuckled. “oh, you have a son? what’s his name?” charlotte doesn’t like admitting it, but she’s really good with children. she remembers partnering up with her brother, arthur, pulling pranks back at home. “amazing,” she claps her hands in excitement, then checks her schedule on her phone again. it was pretty much her day off today. “the pub opens at three in the afternoon, oh and do you mind exchanging numbers? so i could text you the address.”

Tor laughed at that. “So I’ve been told a few times” he said. Then he beamed at the questions about his son. “His named is Kristian, but please don’t get me started on him, or we’ll be here all day while I show you every photo I have of him on my phone.” Which was a lot. Tor’s fear of having his son taken away from him caused him to take more than the average number of pictures. He nodded and handed his phone to her so she could at her contact info. “That sounds perfect” he said.

Tor was in the living room of his hotel suite. He had the large TV on, getting ready to watch the World Cup match between Sweden and Germany. He was rooting for his neighboring country, as he usually did, while cursing Norway’s bad luck at failing to qualify once again. Kristian was sitting on his lap as Tor gently bounced him up and down.

Just then there was a knock on the hotel door. Knowing it was the guard who was stationed on the other side, Tor called out “Come in, Haldor.” The guard stuck his head in the room and announced the princess was here. Did Tor want to see her? “Of course I want to see her” he said, trying to hide the exasperation in his voice. She was his sister and had come all the way from Europe.

When he finally got to see his sister, he smiled at her. “Frida” he said, setting his son down in his play pen. He closed the distance between the two of them and wrapped his arms around the brunette. “What are you doing here?”

“right now, the height disagrees with the hiding place, so i had to think of new pranks,” she chuckled lightly. but charlotte definitely didn’t like when her pranks don’t go well, she disliked seeing her mother mad as a kid. “i know a pub, my friend and i went there a few days ago. it’s a bit secluded, so we don’t have to worry about the public,” she grinned in excitement. “plus they do have good beer, you’ll love it. and i would like to see our bodyguards drunk. that’s a wicked plan.”

“I think it would have to be a giant’s bed for me to fit under it these days” Tor admitted. “I imagine my son will be pulling pranks of his own in a few years.” He wondered if Kristian would be as creative as he was. Part of him hoped so, while the other idea had a headache at the thought. “Somewhere secluded sounds perfect” said Tor, unable to hide his own excitement. “Especially if they have good beer.” He glanced at his phone, knowing it was way too early in the day to be drinking beer. “I imagine they open sometime in the afternoon?” he asked her.

Randy started to write everything down, not that he needed to with his photographic memory but telling clients that didn’t always put their minds at ease, so writing it down was always best. Plus even with his memory forgetting something was a possibility when all the information was coming at you so quickly. “ That’s good we can use that unless there is a reason she did?”

Tor felt himself getting a bit annoyed, although he knew it wasn’t the lawyer’s fault. He was just doing his job, which meant covering all the bases. Taking a deep breath, he said “What possible reason could she have had for taking a baby away from his father?” If the authorities hadn’t stopped her, Kristian might have never been found. “I am a good father” he said. He wasn’t perfect, sure. But he loved his son and would do anything for him.

“oh, lord.” that’s why charlotte felt like she could trust him, they’re both royals. she felt relieved that she wasn’t alone, and glad that she’s just got a friend like her around this huge city. “i knew it, that’s why you seemed so familiar! i’ve read about you a couple of times before,” she whisper-yelled, with a giddy smile on her face. she couldn’t help but feel excited at this revelation. “i may be a bit of an asshole, but i like seeing them thinking i’m lost, when all those time i was just under the bed,” she chuckled lightly. “i do give a good glare though. but you know, we can make some of them our friends, that makes them loosen up even just a bit.”

Tor’s smile grew into an outright grin at the expression on her face. Apparently she was as happy at finding another royal as he was. “Oh, that’s a good one” he said. “I did that one myself once.” But it had upset his mother so much and angered his father so greatly he’d never dared do it again. Now that he was grown, he knew it was only because they’d feared they lost another child. “Now there’s a thought” he said. “Maybe we can offer to buy them drinks and get them drunk on the job.” It would be very hard for the guards to do their job if they couldn’t walk in a straight line. “I’m sure I could beat most of them in a drinking contest.”
