31: What my last text message says
âIt was from my mom....She told me to not forget to take my lunch to work with me and then texted me what time I worked. Sheâs so thoughtful.â
ghostlyward:
âWill you? Will you really?â Jamieâs expression didnât change at all, despite the fact that he found a minuscule amount of amusement in the girlâs gullible naivety. How sweet. How charming. Heâd put gum in her hair if he could chew gum.Â
âI just want to find myself again, Linda. The walls are closing in. Iâm crawling in my skin. These wounds, they will not heal.â
Farrah was just really confused now. Did she ell him her name was Lina once? She didnât remember writing that one down, or more of seeing it written down under library. âAre you making fun of me now?â She frowned. âI donât appreciate that. If you need help, I really do want to help you.â
ghostlyward:
Jamie narrowed his eyes, deadpanning at the girl when she approached. Heâd seen her before. In fact, he saw her nearly every other week so he found it preposterous that she couldnât link his distaste for his job to his tasteless jokes about suicide. âBecause my dad beat my ass when I was a kid and I never learned what love is,â he said flatly. It was a lie. His dad loved him until he didnât. It was different.Â
Farrah frowned. âOh...Iâm sorry I didnât know I....â She wasnât sure what to say. Should she try to help him? She didnât think he was joking. âI....I can get you help. There are a lot of resources out there and no one should have to deal with that.â
Jamie had no real interest in books. Not really, anyway. At that point in his life, all he could think about were finding places to hide out where no one would touch him and he couldnât think of a quieter place than Rosendaleâs library. The job was a joke when he could barely hold onto the books for a stretch of time long enough to move them anywhere, but the old lady who owned the place though he looked pretty and harmless enough to sit at the front deskâ which was appalling, considering that he looked like a demonic entity who couldnât get a wink in but Jamie didnât argue. He had enough sarcasm to ward off just about anyone and someone once said that the best defense was a good offense.
âLook, Iâm not the librarian. Iâm only here because I hate my life and I need money to buy all the razor blades Iâm gonna swallow tonight.â Jamie slumped back in the chair, voice as dry as toast as he stared at the person on the other side of the desk. âI donât know where anything is so youâre probably better off just looking around yourself if you really need something.â
Farrah loved going to the library. She loved looking for new things to read; each book was its own adventure. The only issue was remembering to bring books back on time. She had a habit of letting time fly and keeping one or two books a few weeks overdue. It felt like she was constantly paying library fines, but it was what it was.
When she approached the boy about being able to return one of her books later he surprised her with his razor blades comment. She didnât recognize him, sure, but she had a hard time doing that with everyone nowadays. âI....wait why would you swallow razor blades? Iâm a little confused.â
silentbansheescreams:
Cleo shook her head. âNo. I canât waste my time with the possibility of you poisoning me. Besides, Iâm looking for someone and I think they might be in this town.â
âPoison..wait what? Why would I poison you??â
It wasnât like living in the hotel wasnât comfortable or anything, but he was going to have to branch out a bit if he was gonna settle into the town like he needed to. He was walking along, scrolling along his phone before suddenly pocketing it as he stopped a passer-by.Â
âHey there, really quick, you think you can help me findâŠâŠâ he trailed off as he pulled out his phone for the list heâd had. âAâŠâŠlong-term place to stay, a place I can get some art supplies, and where I can get a drink, or 5? Please tell me you can say yes.â
Farrah thought for a moment. She really wanted to help this guy, but she didnât know how much help she could actually be. âUmm..there are always places leasing apartments at least? I do know where the art store is and drinks? I donât really do that much anymore, but I can show you where a bar is.â
silentbansheescreams:
Cleo rose her eyebrows. âIce cream?â she asked cautiously. She hesitantly took the coupon and looked at them. âThese expired the thirty-first⊠Itâs the fourth.â Cleo tossed the coupon back at her. âYour help is a lie.â
âWait, what? Itâs the fourth?â Farrah looked at the coupon and frowned. She had to remind herself to check the calendar more. âIâm sorry, I really didnât realize...Iâll still buy you ice cream if you want it.â
âPlease donât come any closer,â a timid Cleo said softly. The young girlâs nails were digging into her palms and her mind was all hazy. Sheâd been in Rosendale all of three weeks and was having a very difficult time adjusting.
Farrah took a step back. She didnât like to see people hurting. âIâm sorry I...Iâm not close...I wonât be close...I just wanted to offer you...ice cream! Yeah, I have some ice cream coupons.â Ice cream normally made everything better, right? âMy name is Farrah and Iâm just a regular college-aged girl with a sweet tooth.â
bentley-riedell:
âI never said you had to.â Bentley shrugged, he figured most people wouldnât believe him any way, so there wasnât much surprise when she spoke. Ghosting fingers over tender flesh, he sighed, the ache convincing him finally to attempt to fix it. âThatâd be great, actually. If you wouldnât mind.â
She nodded her head before running into the back of the diner, almost tripping for not actually having her work shoes on. She supposed she could deal with all of that later. Eventually she managed to get an bag of ice and brought it out to him. âHere...place it gently...I mean I can if you want me to, no worries! I just...yeah.â

nategardiner:
Maybe he was taking notes from Avery now as he managed to find himself in the bookstore, looking for something more to do with his free time. While he had managed to snag a quick part-time job in order to keep some sort of income, he still found himself growing restlessly bored when other people were busy. And, as he was perusing the aisles lined with shelves of books, Nate had been more than well aware of the lack of people in the building. He wasnât sure if that was due to the fact that people just didnât read as much these days, or if they were busy reading electronic books instead.
Either way, he had managed to look through a few of the titles, not sure what to even pick. He knew he shouldnât have been so judgmental, but none of the titles had caught his eye just yet. There was, however, a young woman who caught his eye instead. And, she was holding a book! Perhaps she could give him recommendations. That was his first thought at least, until he continued to glance over her, finding a bit more spring to heart, along with his step as he proceeded to go around the corner and come up behind on the other side.
Without much thought, Nate snuck up behind her, and quickly tapped at her shoulder, mouth open and ready to ask what book she had and whether he should get it. Instead of the usual introduction however, the next moment went by in a blur as he saw the fist but didnât have time to react as quickly as he normally would have, and he felt the sting of the impact seconds later. âHoly shitââ He blinked, covering his face as the dull throb hit him. âDamn girl, remind me never to do that to you again.â
He was taking it a lot better than most people would, but still. She couldnât believe she just punched a guy in the face! What kind of unstable person just did that? And in a bookstore? She reached out to see the damage, but recoiled. He might not want her to touch him ever again, which she definitely understood. She bit her lip. She had no idea what to do.
âI...sorry! Are you bleeding? Did I break your nose?â She had no idea how strong she was. She didnât think she was really strong, but she did feel a pretty solid connection once her fist made contact. âI donât know what to say...Do you need a doctor? Should I call 911? I can do that! I think I have my phone...â She felt around her pockets. Of course she didnât have her phone on her.âSay something please???â
âSo whatâre you up to?â
âI....whatâre you up to?â
ââIâm serious; this is nothing.â A lie, an obvious one at that. It hurt like hell, though heâd never admit it seeing as he were going through a strange phase of âmister tough guyâ here lately. âYou should see the other guy.â
Farrah frowned at him. âI donât know if I believe you,â she said with a sigh. She wished she understood why he felt so familiar, but she couldnât place it. Same as usual. âDo you want ice? I can get some from the back of the shop...â
First Impressions || Farrah & Nate
@nategardiner
Farrah lived each day like it was new. After the accident, every day just happened to be one. It sucked because her best friend wasnât speaking to her still, but she knew she was bound to come around some day. In the meantime she was taking her new days with a smile. She woke up, read her notes, and went on with her day.
Todayâs tasks were pretty simple; she had to go to the old bookstore and grab a few books for her mother. It was a simple task and Farrah loved going to the bookstore anyways. It was small and kind of creepy, but sheâs never let that get in her way.Â
At least she didnât until today.
Farrah always had the feeling that someone was following her. She couldnât explain it, but she knew there was something more going on in her life. Sheâs felt it since she was a little girl and even though she started each day fresh, she never remembered that feeling going away. So it was safe to say she was on edge when she entered the bookstore, but eventually she relaxed a little as she started picking up books. Books were always the same, books were consistent.Â
She was looking through one of her momâs future books when that feeling started again. But before she could process that it was all in her head, someone tapped her shoulder and the book was on the ground and her fist was connecting with someoneâs face. Once she saw it was just some boy, she covered her mouth. âOh my god! I just....I am so, so, sorry!â
averyphillips:
âThatâs true. I canât complain about the lack of spirit because there isnât any. Everyoneâs so happy and excited for it to be here. I canât believe the year is even almost over.â
âIt is...Wow, I havenât even thought about that...â She frowned for a moment. âIt went by fast, didnât it?â
It was sunny, perhaps too much so for an overcast winter day. Arthur hadnât adjusted to the the light yet since heâd woken up late in his Jeep, curled up in the back. He made his way from his car, stretching with an an arm up in the air behind his head after heâd all but kicked the door open and stumbled out of the vehicle with no idea what to do. That was until he decided he needed a trip downtown about a block away from his car. From there he could get a coffee or energy drink from any place no matter how shoddy⊠he knew a few cheap convenience stores that offered bitter brownish water that would wake you up if you wanted and something cheap to eat⊠that or a cheap enough expired Red Bull in a dust coated can at the back of a shelf. He needed to stock up on cigarettes as well so it was the perfect idea.
Walking was slowly waking him up but his mood was generally sour. Heâd been promised a place to crash with a friend, but itâd fallen through so here he was living out of his car for the moment before his new job came through hopefully. Pulling out his lighter and his Marlboros he all but was going to put the paper to his mouth when he lost grip on it. Heâd not been thinking about where he was going and had butted shoulders with someone going the opposite direction on the sidewalk. He gave them a dark look as he leaned down to pick up his zippo and the stray that heâd dropped. âFuckinâ hell⊠watch where youâre going.â
It was happening again. Farrah went out with the intention to meet up with someone (there was a note in her handwriting saying as much next to her bed), but she forgot who she was meeting with (not included on the note). She had gone to the convenience store and waited a few minutes, but after waiting long enough without anyone going over to her, she started to think that maybe she had gone to the wrong convenience store. She wasnât even sure how many there were in this town. She sighed in frustration, ended up paying for a candy bar, and headed outside. She was just going to have to check the other convenience stores.
As she made her way out, she bumped into someone and she stumbled a bit. Great. Now she was confused and looked ruder than she was. She didnât like it when others cursed at her. It just made her feel kind of grimy. âSorry...I wasnât trying to run into you...â
