my relationship to depression has changed a lot in the past few months, but i related so much to this article. it has always felt strange to talk about my depression with others, especially with men. i feel like they always countered me by saying "hey, you're a cheerful woman," negating any sort of truthful statement i had (which wasn't easy to express in the first place) and then countering it with their own battle with misery in which they locked themselves in a room and played guitar forever, or whatever. fuck you.
