I'm not the blog that you tagged but pigeons are well known for making their nests in wild places, using whatever is at hand. They're extremely crafty and adapted to urban life and apparently will sit on basically anything with their eggs on it.

Thank you! I thought the post was super cute, but I didn't want to reblog it without any critical thinking, so I hope that you know that it definitely wasn't a slight on you by any means! Is it just pigeons who will make use of that sort of thing in whatever way they need to? I've definitely never seen any, like, songbirds do anything similar. Obviously I know that crows & their crews manipulate all sorts of foreign objects to be used as tools and such, but I've never known the same for Columbiformes. Happy to hear all the birb information that you are willing to share!

I'm not sure how I feel about this; on one hand, I think that this is very cute & ingenious, but on the other, I definitely want to know if this is safe, and if this is (probably?) just the product of a total lack of resources (even more than usual in a city, such as one in which pigeons are notorious for behaving as "the rat of the bird world," such as in New York City*).

@why-animals-do-the-thing, if you're around, are you able to provide any insight? I have always completely loved reading your blog & have learned so much from it over the years!

(This song makes me cry, like a lot, because Jeffrey used to feel bad about the way he treated me as a "partner" for the four months or so that that was a thing. He is past feeling bad about anything and has been pretty shitty to me for the past ~2 years, which have been the worst of my life. I sent him a message about a year ago kind of asking him why he's been the way he's been since... 2020, but more so as a rhetorical device, because I made it pretty clear that I did not want a response. I told him to have a nice rest of his life & that I was removing him as a follower on Instagram, & that's how the friendship with the dude who 'took my virginity' [I hate it, I hate it so much, but also, like, I really fucking loved him, & that's how that went] ended. The last time I saw him, he spent the night at my stupid anarchy house in Brighton in early 2010, in the spare bedroom, and it was awkward as hell. We waved goodbye that night.)
