First of all, if you have NOT read the thing, read the thing.
It means that Prin is dead.
Well, you probably figured that out.
But it also means that I'm no longer roleplaying her. The main reason why is that I feel she's just run her course. I hardly even think about her anymore. Suke has most of my attention now. I've thought long and hard about this and I feel it's just the best way to proceed.
So, this blog is now strictly an archive.
Suke will be moved to a new blog to call his very own, right here.
If you currently have an RP with Suke, reblog from the same blog you have been. I'll pick up the next reply from his new blog.
If you don't read this, you're going to be confused. If you're already confused, it's because you haven't read this. So read it.
Prin woke up.
Blinking away the pain that even the faint rays of the sunrise poking through her curtains caused her, she rubbed at her eyes in a vain effort to rouse herself further.
I feel like Iāve been up all night.
She rolled out of bed, shaking her head free of the cloud that persisted in fugging her mind, and staggered over to the window, yanking the curtains aside. The sudden burst of light made her recoil, but the spots in her eyes soon died and she looked out, a smile creeping onto her face as she took in the sight.
The royal apple orchard lay before her, drenched in early morning warmth. The well-cut grass waved in the lazy breeze, matching the slow dance of the leaves adorning the apple trees that stretched as far as the eye could see.
Prin nodded to herself, all tiredness forgotten.
Itās a beautiful day.
She got dressed and headed downstairs, to the kitchen.
Breakfast was, as usual, already prepared. The princess passed the chef standing by the wall, and took her seat in front of a delicious-looking plate of eggs and bacon, a taste-tester chewing on a bite. She glanced at him, and he gave her a thumbs up.
Her gaze then turned ahead of herself, where a second plate of the same food sat on the other side of the table. Ah, yes. Today was Saturday. A warm feeling cloaked her chest. Any second nowā¦
A feathered dragon, about as tall as a horse and nearly twice as long, entered the dining room, led by two guards. The faces of both the dragon and the princess lit up upon seeing each other, a smile gracing both of their faces as the mythical beast stood in front of his plate.
āGood morning, mom.ā
āMorning, Suke.ā Prin watched her son swallow a strip of bacon whole, and began cutting into her eggs. āHow have you been?ā
āAlright. I think Iāve got a job.ā
āOh, really? Well come on, what is it?ā
Sukeās feathers puffed up slightly and his eyes darted around the room. āA waiter, in a⦠a maid cafeā¦ā
Prin couldnāt hold back a chuckle, though her laughter was at the dragonās sheepishness, not his words. āIām sure youāll make the cutest maid ever! Youāre already the cutest dragon, after all.ā
Her son fluffed up even more, and muttered a āTh-thanks.ā
A few silent moments passed as the two of them ate.
Then Suke spoke up. āSo, what are we gonna do? Got anything planned?ā
āWell, after breakfast, I was thinking maybe we could go apple picking?ā
āThat sounds great!ā
The two of them quickly finished up their meals and headed off to the orchard.
Ā Prin wiped the sweat from her brow, sighing contentedly in the midday sun. She approached the dragon with a fresh-picked apple in hand, gently placing it in a large basket already halfway full of the fruit at the beastās clawed feet.
āWhat do you think, Suke? That enough for today?ā
āThere are still a lot of really yummy-looking ones left⦠I donāt mind if we keep going for a while longer if you donāt.ā
āāCourse not!ā The princess smiled wide.
They walked for a little ways, further into the orchard, before Prin stopped before a particularly large tree. She looked up and whistled. āSee a real good one up there! Iāll go get it.ā
āYou sure? Itās awfully high upā¦ā
āDonāt worry, I've got this!ā The princess had already begun making the ascent. āIāve dealt with a lot worse, believe me.ā
This earned her a giggle from the dragon. āYes yes, I know. Iāve heard all of your stories.ā
Prin reached out to the apple, just barely out of reach. She needed a higher branch to stand on⦠āAre you sure about tha-ā
The princess had found the branch she needed, but she had not expected that, upon placing her weight on it, a horrible crack would sound, and she would suddenly gain the feeling of the entire world being pulled out from under her. She had not expected to have the wind knocked out of her as she hit the ground, dizzying her beyond belief, so much so that she barely registered the worried voice that called her name.
But even after she came to terms with all that, she still didnāt expect for the tree to continue to crack and split, or, for that matter, for the entire tree to come crashing down towards her with a sound like the creaking of a thousand doors.
And she certainly did not expect, as the falling trunk loomed over her and filled her vision with oncoming doom, for Suke to push her out of the way.
The dragon had grown big and strong, and when his weight slammed into her, the princess felt as though she had been hit by a car. The impact sent her rolling across the grass, and for a few moments, her world was nothing but confusion and pain.
When she finally came to her senses, she slowly pulled herself to her feet and winced as he felt the distinctive prangs in her chest that signified a broken rib, maybe two, where Suke had collided with her. She slowly turned around, gritting her teeth.
āDammit, Suke! I appreciate the help, but did you have to hit me so damn ha--...ā
Her voice trailed off as she faced the fallen tree. The great trunk, heart rot now exposed, lay like a fallen giant. More than a hundred years of growth cut short by nothing more than a lucky fungus.
Prinās eyes followed the trunk. Her gazed moved from the vital crack at its base, along the twisted bark, past the second crack where the trunk had snapped as it landed⦠to the limp form below it.
Ruffled feathers, matted by sticky redness. A heaving chest, struggling to draw breath. A smiling face, secure in the knowledge of a job well done.
Prin ran to her son, the searing pain in her chest causing her to stumble, falling to her knees at his side.
āSuke! Are you alright? Come on, talk to me!ā
Sucking in a deep, rattling breath, her son smiled. He said nothing.
The princess forced herself to stand and braced herself against the fallen trunk, thrusting all her weight against it. Her nerves screamed at her as she threw herself at the tree over and over again. It shifted, but only slightly. Even hollowed by the creeping fungus within, the trunk was still too heavy for her to move, hindered as she was by her injuries.
She felt the smooth keratin of a beak touch her ankle, compelling her to cease her fruitless efforts. She looked down at her son, his calm expression blurred by the tears that threatened to blind her.
āDonāt hurt yourself.ā
Prin fell to her knees again, no longer able to withstand the pain. She lay next to her son as the breath left him, resting her head on his unmoving neck. She gritted her teeth as her tears mingled with his blood, cursing her own weakness and the world that would kill an innocent just for saving their motherās life.
āNot me you should be worrying about, Suke⦠Not me.ā
She cried until her eyes burned.
At last, she stood up, ignoring her creaking ribs. She took one last look at her departed son through red-rimmed eyes, then turned to face the road back to the castle. The tangled ball of sorrow in her mind was replaced with a single thread of white-hot determination.
I wonāt stand for this.
Then everything went black.
Ā āPrincess? I thought you went apple-picking with Ryuunosuke. Wait, are you okay? You look hur--ā
āSukeās dead.ā
Ā Prin woke up.
Blinking away the pain that even the faint rays of the sunrise poking through her curtains caused her, she rubbed at her eyes in a vain effort to rouse herself further.
I feel like Iāve been up all night.
She lay still for a moment, staring at the ceiling. The cold claws of the dream pricked at the edges of her mind, and she shivered.
I hope I donāt have another dream like that for a long time.

Her son fluffed up even more, and muttered a āTh-thanks.ā
A few silent moments passed as the two of them ate.
Then Suke spoke up. āSo, what are we gonna do? Got anything planned?ā
Prin was quiet, lost in thought.
ā... Mom?ā
The princess shook her head.
Must be deja vu.
āWell, after breakfast, I was thinking maybe we could go apple picking?ā
āThat sounds great!ā
The two of them quickly finished up their meals and headed off to the orchard.
Ā Prin wiped the sweat from her brow, sighing contentedly in the midday sun. She approached the dragon with a fresh-picked apple in hand, gently placing it in a large basket already halfway full of the fruit at the beastās clawed feet.
āWhat do you think, Suke? That enough for today?ā
āThere are still a lot of really yummy-looking ones left⦠I donāt mind if we keep going for a while longer if you donāt.ā
The princess stared into space for a few moments. Try as she might, she could not stop her thoughts from returning to that awful dream. It was silly, butā¦
āActually, you know what? Letās do something else now. The barn near here could doĀ with a few repairs and I wanna take a look at it. Why donāt you come with me?ā
Ā Tilting her head as she peered closer, Prin squinted at the peeling red surface of the barnās inside wall. She tapped a finger at it thoughtfully, recoiling as a puff of moist dust burst free. Coughing and waving her hand about her to clear the cloying red cloud, she called down to Suke.
āYup, thatāsā¦ā She hacked her way through a fresh bout of coughing. āThatās definitely rotten!ā
āI told you.ā
Prin stood up, stretching out a crick in her back as she did so. She walked across the creaking loft, kicking up dust and hay on her way to the ladder. Climbing nimbly down, she placed a hand on her sonās neck as she came to a halt beside him.
āYouāve got better eyes than me, mind going up and taking a look?
Suke took a step towards the ladder, but stopped at the sound of a voice lilting into the barn.
āPrincess? Ryuunosuke? You in there?ā
A guard poked her head around the door.
āWhat are you doing in here? Looking for that ticking sound?ā
Prin jolted. She heard Sukeās claws clicking on wood suddenly stop dead.
ā... Ticking sound?ā
The guard nodded.
āWhen I was on night duty here a few weeks ago... We-well, I kept hearing this weird ticking sound coming from the walls.ā
Ticking on a summer night, and for weeks now. Oh no.
The barn groaned.
Prin whirled around to face her son.
āSuke! Beetles!ā
Suke had already leapt from the loft, wings spread. He landed with a thud, and the barn shook. The groaning became a hissing roar of shattering wood, and the roof sagged. As Suke ran towards her, lowering his head in a charge, Prin was gripped by a vision of a falling tree blocking out the midday sun and a pool of red in a sea of green.
No! Wait!
The barn collapsed inwards, the voracious larvae having finally finished their deadly work. Her son slammed into her, throwing her to the dirt road outside, where the guard had already escaped to. She cried out in pain as she felt a rib, maybe two, crack. Coughing away the plume of dust her landing had created, she watched in horror as the barn crumbled like a paper cup crushed beneath the uncaring foot of some invisible giant.
The dust settled.
The moment passed. Both the princess and the guard leapt to their feet and ran to the wreckage to begin desperately pulling at fallen timber, clawing tooth and nail at the decrepit but heavy beams.
Suddenly, Prin heard a gasp from her side, and slowly turned to look at the guard who had a clawed hand at their mouth in shock.
āHave⦠Have you found him?ā
The guard turned away and clenched her teeth. Prinās lip trembled.
āJust⦠donāt go looking, Princess. Nothing for you to be looking at.ā
Prin came to the only conclusion she could.
Then everything went black.
Ā āDammit, whatās taking so long?ā
āI donāt⦠Itās this spell! It makes no sense! I-Iām sorry Princess! But it doesnāt even explain why it does what it does; it just says, āSo that lines may be drawn, the wheel turns.āā
Ā Prin woke up, sweating and gasping for breath.
Closing her eyes against the faint rays of sunrise poking through the curtains, she rubbed at her eyes and took a deep, shuddering breath.
Just another dream, Prin. Dreaming in a dream. Not unheard of.
Prin bit her lip, eyes darting across the vista, searching for discrepancies.
Exactly the same. Itās all exactly the same.
She got dressed and headed downstairs, to the kitchen.
Breakfast was, as usual, already prepared. The princess passed the chef standing by the wall, and took her seat in front of a delicious-looking plate of eggs and bacon, a taste-tester chewing on a bite. She glanced at him, and he gave her a thumbs up.

āOh, really? Well come on, what is it?ā
Sukeās feathers puffed up slightly and his eyes darted around the room. āA waiter, in a⦠a maid cafeā¦ā
The princess froze.
It is the same. All of it.
ā... Mom?ā
āJust a⦠bad dream, Suke. Hit me harder than Iād like.ā
I canāt let him near anything dangerous.
āAnyway, Iām sure youāll make the cutest maid ever! Youāre already the cutest dragon, after all.ā
Her son fluffed up even more, and muttered a āTh-thanks.ā
A few silent moments passed as the two of them ate.
Then Suke spoke up. āSo, what are we gonna do? Got anything planned?ā
āWell, after breakfast, I was thinking maybe we could go into town?ā
āThat sounds great!ā
The two of them quickly finished up their meals and headed off to the village.
Ā Prin found herself smiling, despite the uncertainty that dogged her every thought. The villageās main street was on fine form, full to the brim with yelling marketeers, gamboling children, and people just relaxing. As used as she was to living apart from the bustle of the town, the presence of so many good people always made her feel welcome.
Surely nothing bad would happen around here.
She glanced at her side. Suke strolled alongside her. She caught herself sighing in relief at his continued presence and frowned.
Come on now, silly. Suke isnāt going anywhere. No point getting all worked up over a bad dream.
Even as she admonished herself, she spotted their destination. The pair stepped into the town square, weaving through the crowds until they reach a pot stand. The brunette running the stand shuddered with excitement when she saw the Princess herself was approaching.
Prin always loved buying from the locals. With so much gold to spend, she figured why not just give some of it directly to your subjects? Besides, once word spread that the princess had bought from this stand, its business would skyrocket and result in a lot of happy people. So she asked for the brunetteās finest set and dropped some gold on counter. Enough to pay for it and a decent bit extra.
The brunette excitedly rummaged in the space beneath the counter, muttering āThank you, thank you, thank you!ās all the while. She pulled out a form and stamped it. āItās round back in the market warehouse, Bay 15. You know the way, right?ā
āYup!ā Prin smiled warmly.
āO-Of course you do! Youāre the princess⦠Thanks again!ā
Minutes later, the princess and the dragon stood at the entrance to the market warehouse. Anybody with a regular market stall was granted space in the commonly-held building. Prin Ā turned to her son and cocked her head toward the nearby door marked āOffice.ā
āYou want to get the stuff while I handle the paperwork?ā
Suke nodded and nudged the warehouseās main door open, striding into the musty interior. Prin went to the office door and knocked, opening it and poking her head in without waiting for an answer.
āYoohoo! Anybody in here?ā
āGah!ā
A young blonde was inside, scribbling her signature at the uninhabited desk. She dropped her pen with a yelp at Prinās unexpected entrance, but after seeing who had surprised her, she quickly forgot her shock to adopt a bowed stance.
Prin chuckled and walked into the office proper, motioning for the other to rise. āSorry if I scared you! Wasnāt expecting anybody to be in here with the market in full swing and all!ā
The blonde shook her head, looking grim.
āActually, there shouldnāt be. Iām only here to help lock up.ā
Prin raised an eyebrow.
āāShouldnāt be?ā Thereās something wrong with the place?ā
āApparently. I only came to pick up my usual order of greens, but I was told that the warehouse itself has some kind of structural issue that nobodyās noticed ātill now and itās way too dangerous to go in. Iām here to--ā
Prin cut her off incisively, voice as cold as the fear that enveloped her.
āDid you say⦠structural issues?ā
The blonde blinked at the interruption.
āUh, yeah. Like I said, Iām here to lock up--Hey, where are you going? Itās dangerous, I said!ā
Ignoring her, Prin ran into the warehouse without a thought for the warning cries behind her, and began to search for her son in the echoing gloom with barely-concealed panic.
āSuke? Where are you, Suke?ā
Itās going to happen again.
She  raced through the warehouse, surrounded by tall crates, looming breams⦠creaking wood. There was a crash from deeper within the cavernous building, and Prin cried out in fear.
āSuke, why arenāt you answering me?ā
She rounded a corner, turning into the aisle that held Bay 15. As the dim light of the warehouseās lamps flickers over the wreckage of the heavy crate, Prin saw him.
In the gloom, her son had stumbled into a heavy wardrobe, which now lay in the wreckage of a load-bearing beam. Prin skidded to a halt at Sukeās side, even as he waved her away.
āAre you alright, Suke?ā
There was a low rumble, and the high wooden frame of the shelves began to shift unnervingly in the shadows. Prin glanced up nervously, black certainty taking hold of her.
āWe have to get out of here befo--ā
The shelves snapped with a loud crack. Crates of pans tumbled towards them in a landslide of wood and metal. Prin felt a familiar impact, thrown to the floor beyond the reach of the falling debris. A pain in her side, a sickening thud amidst a storm of splinters, and a terrible silence.
She didnāt look up. She already knew what she would see. The only sound was the faint chiming of the office clock.
Everything went black.
Ā āOkay, I think weāre all set. But⦠are you sure you still want to do this, Princess? After everything I just told you?ā
āYes, Iām damn sure! I canāt live in a world where my son died saving my life.ā
Ā Prin sat bolt upright.
She leapt out of bed and quickly got dressed, running downstairs. She sat herself in front of her breakfast and waited.
The dragon entered, taking his place across from her.
They had the usual conversation. This time, Prin asked him to walk with her in the garden.
Ā The princess felt like a nervous wreck ever since she woke up, and she must have looked like it too, because once they were a decent ways into the garden, she heard the dragon speak up.
āAre you okay, mom?ā
Prin forced herself to calm down through deep, wobbling breaths.
āIām⦠Iām fine. But you need to listen, Suke. Something terrible is happening.ā
She explained as best she could, gesturing wildly at the sunrise she had seen three times now, always marred only by an errant cumulus.
Her son listened, eyes widening at the frantic tales of his own repeated death. He looked down at his mother, the woman who had faced countless dangers in her long lifetime, as she glanced fearfully about a colorful garden as if death itself were about to swoop down and claim him there.
She finished her frenzied tale and looked him in the eye as if daring him to disbelieve her.
āDo you understand, Suke? I know it sounds crazy, butā¦ā
Sukeās wing across her shoulders was all the answer she needed.
āYou wouldnāt lie to me.ā
Prin let out the breath she had been holding, resting her head tenderly on her sonās neck. The moment passed.
āSo⦠you got any ideas, Suke?ā
Sukeās expression was unreadable as he glanced over the flowers.
āI reckon we take this thing head on.ā
āSay what?ā
He turned to her, all confidence for once in his life.
āYou said it yourself. You know whatās coming, and from what youāre telling me, if I make it past noon Iām probably in the clear.ā
Prin bit her lip.
āSo just run the day as it was, keeping clear of what took you down? Iām not sure about this⦠What if something goes wrong?ā
Suke shrugged.
āThen maybe it was meant to go wrong.ā
Ā Prin sighed heavily in the bright midday sun, and thought carefully. She turned to her son who was looking over the basket of apples.
āSuke⦠This is it. This is where we were the first time.ā
He raised a brow and she pointed to the tree that had set her on her nightmare path.
āI insisted on climbing that tree, but it was sick with the rot and came crashing down. You pushed me out of the way, and⦠well⦠that left you in the way.ā
āSo⦠weāre moving on?ā
Prin nodded, smiling.
Marking the tree to be dealt with later, they strolled on.
Ā The next few hours were spent picking apples safely, checking every tree for signs of the disease that had claimed the first. Prin found her mood lifting as the day went on. Nothing was going wrong. They day was nearly over, blissful sunset giving way to twilight. Noon was long past.
Her son was safe.
Prin surfaced from her reverie. A low, crackling roar trembled faintly across the hills. Their eyes followed their ears to the red haze hanging over the orchard in the distance, a haze that Prin had taken for the last rays of sunset.
Fire.
Ā She ran through the burning orchard, almost blinded by the smoke and flames. The fire had engulfed the two of them quickly, a sudden breeze spreading the blaze rapidly in their direction. In the confusion, they had been separated. Prin didnāt fear Suke getting burned -- he was a dragon after all. That wasnāt her concern. It was the trees. Gotta find him. Burning wood everywhere. Somethingās going to fall!
Her lungs burned as the ashen air rasped at her throat, and her legs ached as she tripped over fallen branches and dodged sudden gouts of flame caused by the perilous wind. But even as her body slowly failed her, her mind stayed sharp and determined. He had survived. The pattern had been broken. The pattern could be broken.
A stray root clipped her foot unexpectedly, invisible in the dancing shadows of the burning orchard. She stumbled, unable to find her footing as her legs refused to respond fast enough. Tripping over herself, she slammed into the blackened trunk of a burning tree.
Cursing, she slumped to her knees. All she had to do was get up and she could--
She heard a crack.
Slowly, almost unable to bring herself to look, she lifted her gaze to the tree she had collided with. A jagged line ran across its circumference where she had hit it, slowly widening. She tried to stand, to pull herself clear, but somehow she could not tear her attention from the crackling innards of the tree, or the boiling sap that bubbled free like golden blood. A rhythmic pounding crept into the edge of hearing, and she tore her gaze away just as gravity tore the treeās top half free.
The pieces clicked together. The heavy trunk fell towards her. The pounding grew louder.
Suke crashed into her. She felt her ribs snap, heard the tree collapse, heard her sonās grunt of pain. She knew it had happened again.
Everything went black.
Ā āWell⦠If youāre sure. You understand the rules?ā
āI got it. Five should be enough.ā
Ā Prin woke up.
I remember now. Thatās why this is happening. I made it happen.
She lay there, staring at the ceiling and into herself.
But the wheelās turned, and I think Iāve drawn the right line.
She swung herself out of bed purposefully. This time, she would ask Suke to relax with her in the fields.
I have a plan, Suke. Today I save your life.
Ā Suke stared at her.
āYou want me to what?ā
āI want you to sit here. All day. Do nothing.ā
The dragonās feathers ruffled.
āListen, mom⦠I believe what youāre saying, but Iām not sure how that will help.ā
Gritting her teeth in frustration, Prin waved a hand at the expanse of grassland that surrounded them.
āBecause thereās no danger, donāt you get it? Four times now, Iāve seen this! Something wooden falls, you save me and take the hit. This is the one place where youāre safe! There are no trees or buildings around to collapse, no danger for me to get into!ā
āI just reckon we take this thing hea--ā
āThatās what you said the last time and it didnāt do a lick of good!ā
āEasy there, mom.ā
Prin looked away, ashamed at her outburst.
āIām sorry, Suke, I just⦠Iāve killed you four times, and I wonāt do it again.ā
Ā The two of them sat in the heat of the sun, looking out over the fields. They sat in silence, watching the day go by.
āSuke?ā
āYeah?ā
āIn the last loop, you said something to me. I was worried your plan of just bulldozing through this thing would go wrong, and you said āMaybe it was meant to go wrong.ā What did you mean?ā
Sukeās tail flicked thoughtfully as he stared into space. Prin glanced at him. The faint sounds of the village could be heard on the breeze, mingling with the shouts of farmers and the calls of birds. Sukeās deaths seemed nothing more than distant nightmares, far detached from the peaceful moment they shared. At last, her son spoke.
āEverybody dies sometime. You can try to wrestle them back from the brink, or keep them safe from anything that could hurt them⦠But everybody dies. Iām not saying itās written in the stars, but there comes a time when fighting just doesnāt work anymore.ā
Suke met his motherās gaze, silently urging her to take his words to heart.
Prin swallowed.
āIf thatās what you think⦠why are you sitting in this field with me?ā
The dragon laughed.
āMaybe Iām just as stubborn as you are. And if all the fighting that needs to be done is relaxing in a fieldā¦ā
Ā Everything went black.
Ā āPrincess? I thought you went apple-picking with Ryuunosuke. Wait, are you okay? You look hur--ā
āFive wasnāt enough.ā
āWhat are you talking about? Five what?ā
ā... Nothingās happened yet, has it? That damn spell reset you too⦠I have some explaining to do.ā
Ā āSo youāre saying youāve already been through these loops? And nothing changed?ā
āHappened just like you said it would. Five times I saw my son die. After the first, I knew it was coming, but no matter what I tried I couldnāt stop it. Fifth time around, I remember you casting the spell, but⦠it didnāt help. I couldnāt draw the lines. I thought I had.ā
Ā āThereās a little more. You said I was rushed the first time? Well, I missed something. Itās not much, butā¦
āTo my eternal shame, I am unable to perform that which destiny demands of me, and I am sorry. To those who would follow in my footsteps, know this. Destiny will have its way. It simply does not care with whom.ā
⦠Princess? Are you okay?ā
āIām just dandy. Iām gonna need you to cast that spell again."
Ā āPrincess⦠Donāt you think youāve had enough?ā
āIāll have had enough when I can go to sleep knowing my son is alive.ā
Everything went black.
Ā Prin woke up, a single revelation gripping her above all else.
Thatās it. Itās not enough just to keep him safe.
Blinking away the pain that even the faint rays of the sunrise poking through her curtains caused her, she rubbed at her eyes in a vain effort to rouse herself further.
No time for sleeping, Prin. Youāve got a job to do.
Wonāt be the last.

She looked up and whistled.āSee a real good one up there! Think you can get it?ā
āWell, I can try.ā
There was barely any sign of the rot that lay within. Prin swallowed. This was the moment.
Suke began to move, and Prin stood aside to let him take position. The dragon dug his claws into the bark. He glanced in her direction.
She nodded, smiling warmly.
āDo it, Suke.ā
Destiny will have its way. It just doesnāt care with who.
Suke clawed up the bark, falling back down when a branch snapped under his weight. Winded, he slowly got up, only to come face-to-face with incoming doom, unable to move in surprise.
Prin ran forward on cue and threw herself into his side. He was bigger than her, but it was enough to cause him to stumble out of the path of the falling tree. The trunk hit the princess, slamming her to the ground. She cried out in pain as she was crushed beneath the immense weight.
Her son recovered and ran to her side.
āMom! Are you okay?ā
Prin struggled to look into his eyes, vision blurring as her life ebbed away. Her head slumped to the ground, and the world began to fade. She could still hear Suke crying her name, feel him trying to pull her free. She smiled into the cool grass, content. A life ended, a life defended.
I canāt live in a world where my son died to save my lifeā¦
