music is so important in this show, and not just because the main character often listens to and very obviously cherishes music; there are so many scenes that are structured to the music, like a dance.
i just finished watching Professor T (the Belgian original) on PBS and i’m kinda obsessed with this weird little guy. he’s not okay, he’s a sad wet cat. he’s a professor of criminology and a genius, he has OCD and autism, and he helps the police solve crimes. he has vivid imaginings and he sees the world and the people around him in strange and interesting ways. he has debilitating childhood trauma that continues so haunt him. and sometimes the combination of all those things become too much and his eccentric imaginings become hallucinations and the folks closest to him watch him interacting and talking to no one. the thing i loved the most about the show is that he works on all of this, sometimes he succeeds and sometimes he fails, sometimes it’s too overwhelming and he hides, but he ultimately reaches a place at the end of the last episode where he is mostly ok and he is surrounded by quirky, imperfect people who love him.
