Did you know the #rustyspottedcat is the #smallestcatintheworld ? #conservation (bij Zoo Frankfurt)
Great day talking to guests about #conservation with fellow @frankfurt.zoological.society #Naturbotschafter at the #tiger info kart at #Frankfurt Zoo. FZS volunteers can be found somewhere around the zoo almost every weekend, teaching guests about different conservation initiatives. 🐅 (bij Zoo Frankfurt)
Our little office lion sends out a #5forBigCats! With a little office cheetah around our dog on the part of little office lion. #WorldLionDay
The African lion population has declined by 90% in the last 75 years and lions have disappeared from approximately 80% of their historical range. Kenya’s lion population is now less than 2,000 individuals.
Ewaso Lions conserves Kenya’s lions and other large carnivores by promoting coexistence between people and wildlife. If you are still looking for a great organization to support on #WorldLionDay go to their website.
Did you know a lot of people are still unaware lions and other big cats are endangered? National Geographic is challenging YOU to change that! Post, tweet, like and share your most creative high five selfie, tag with #5forBigCats and create a virtual high five chain raising awareness for #WorldLionDay! We'll be posting ours later today. ;) Want to do more? Donate to lion conservation projects today!
Today is #WorldLionDay!
We reached 200 likes on our Facebook page! Since we celebrated this on our Facebook page with a super cute baby leopard video we felt we should share that here too!
Many emotions and opinions are involved in the aftermath of the death of Cecil the lion. Once again; we would like to focus on bringing some positive out of this sad situation. Sarah Stribbling is an artist doing just that! Her work will support lion research in Zimbabwe. Follow her page to keep updated on her painting. https://www.facebook.com/sarahstribblingwildlifeart
Cecil the lion has made headlines around the world and has gotten Jimmy Kimmel to stand up for conservation. We are sharing this video instead of one of the many articles out there as we love how he is trying to turn this tragedy into something positive.
Today is #GlobalTigerDay! You would think the bright orange color of the biggest cat on earth would stand out in the Asian forest. Luckily for the tiger their prey is colorblind and cannot see the orange color. Their stripes just blend in with other shadows coming through the tree branches. To their prey, tigers are basically invisible! Don't let them disappear for real! Support tiger conservation efforts and #savetigers!
Did you know that the spot pattern of a big cat is just as unique as your fingerprint? Being able to identify melanistic leopard from their spots might help researchers saving them!
What is a tiger? We might have to change our definition of the largest cat on earth to save them.
Warning! Cuteness overload!
Luckily, there might be hope for conservation. Earlier today we posted about species that have gone extinct. Like many things in live it takes small steps to improve a situation. While some species are doing better thanks to successful conservation programs, other species still need our help. Project C would like to offer help on the feline part of things by spreading the message that we all can contribute to a better world!
Fish, birds, mammals, reptiles -- they're all here. Sadly, they're only memories, and we'll never see them out in the world. We've lost a lot of strange, beautiful creatures in just the last century.
Seven cats are on this list! Right now the Amur leopard is the most endangered feline species, closely followed by the Iberian Lynx. Don’t let them be next!
Love those videos and magical stories of extraordinary friendships between man and beasts? Well, they truly are extraordinary. These friendships are not meant for everyone. The people having these special bonds with these animals have worked with and studied them for years. It is not that these friendships work because the animal was raised from a very young age, it is because of the human in the relationship is aware of all the risks every interaction brings with it. While most of us hope these sort of stories will inspire people to take an active part in saving endangered species, some people don't really get that message. Sometimes people forget how truly dangerous these animals can be. A 22-year old woman was killed at Lion Park in South Africa after ignoring the park's safety requirements on leaving all windows of the vehicle closed. Lion Park has caused for an uproar on social media as the park also offers lion cub interactions for their visitors. We will be explaining more on interactions with big cats in future posts and on our website as Project C believes it can be beneficial to a species survival to make use of ambassador animals. And while for most people animal interactions and ambassador animals are the same thing, we would like to educate the public about the difference between the two.
