SABREv2 plot

Nightmare (Ray waking up from a nightmare on the morning and briefly discusses the original encounter with Cassie. Links to the actual kidnapping thread.)
Fake tourist (Ray meets Andrea Strucker, who lures him to a quieter area before revealing her intention to take him to Bancroft)
Where’s Ray? (Set the night of his disappearance, Cassie tries to get in touch with Ray. She ends up meeting ghost Clay instead)
Unfamiliar (Ray wakes up in an unfamiliar room and struggles to remember how he got there)
Worried texts (Nearly two days since Ray should have returned home from training with Marco. JJ trying to contact Ray, with no luck. She then contacts Kristi who then gets in contacts Marco. Marco travels to Ray’s to investigate and check in with Cassie and they all set up a video chat)
Withdrawn (roughly around the same time as the others’ video call. Ray slowly recalling what happened and being questioned by a certain, infamous Hydra agent)

Project name: SABRE (Strategic Assimilation By Reactionary Emotions)
Clearance: Level 7 (though files are password secured)
Project founders: Alexander Pierce, Elijah Bancroft

Aim: To find powered individuals who are able to manipulate or control others, helping to create an army who won’t (or more accurately, can’t) disobey orders. Those with emotion triggered powers will be boosted with (in)human batteries, greatly expanding their potential.
I’m thinking it’s time to get in touch with some old contacts now I have had time to recover. See what work is salvageable, if anything. E. Bancroft.
Perhaps I should arrange some sort of Hydra and Co lunch get together? Swap some notes?
What do they call those online meetings these days? Zip? Dash? That could work too.
And also to have someone else put up with Ward instead. That would be nice.

No luck with getting the water user involved.
I have however, met an alien willing to help me out after I played the ‘you shouldn’t have to hide’ card.
I haven’t been able to see Hartell as much as I’d like with work from both sides keeping me busy, but he definitely does not bring up Sterling very much these days. I am hoping this means our plan to push him away from the other agent has succeeded and we will have less trouble from Sterling and his investigating.
It could simply be however, his attachment to that annoying agent he is seeing, meaning...unfortunately I have to tolerate Weiss’s presence. One meeting with that agent is enough for a lifetime for me. I do not understand how someone so infuriating could be responsible for the improvement in Hartell’s mood and control but I can’t push them apart to suit myself. Not yet, anyway.
Not when Hartell is so close to the standard I need him at...

Hartell’s powers appear to be returning to their usual level. He was able to knock out the shadow user Agent Ellis by overwhelming him with calm. If we are able to keep him at this level, it will be highly beneficial in furthering the project.
I am concerned I will need to try to fast track his development again. We need to finally test whether or not Hartell really can power up those whose abilities are dependant on emotions to work; before Sterling’s meddling exposes SABRE and has it shut down. I suspect there are others trying to meddle also, but have no proof yet.
If Sterling’s meddling doesn’t push Hartell away, there is a risk now he will simply pull away on his own. My assistant has heard Hartell is getting involved with someone in Internal Affairs. It is possible this is part of Sterling’s plan and this agent is simply playing a part. We will have to be cautious.
Hartell introduced me to a water user in the same training session he took down Ellis. Her power could be very useful indeed. Not to the project as it doesn’t seem to be emotionally triggered, but as a method of keeping Sterling away. She also revealed she works on a genetics project in the Science division. How I would love to get my hands on that... Pierce had limited access but with him gone I can no longer use such information, besides what we already have.
It is a real shame we lost the original test subject. His compulsion based powers would have made Hartell cooperate without any issues. Perhaps I can find another? Or at least some leverage to help...

My assistant has discovered Hartell is seeking positivity, which would explain why his mood is highly variable each time I see him. He requested more training, which I am happy to take him up on, but he was unfocused through the whole session despite requesting it.
While my assistant earns Hartell’s trust, I will be looking into more recruits for the Project, either as a backup if we lose Hartell, or to help him open up to them and bond with them instead of working with Sterling against us.
I have met a field agent who uses shadows. He could be very useful indeed, in fact Hydra has previously had a hold on him. He seemed very interested in meeting with Hartell once I spoke of him during our meeting. Perhaps his powers are emotionally fuelled?

Hartell turned up to work the other morning in a strange mood. He seemed calmer than usual at first, but was determined to spend the day in my office, away from others. He didn’t speak of any incident, but struggled to stay awake for most of the morning. Afterwards, he was very distant and seemed in a more fragile emotional state than usual. He was gone once I returned from meeting my new...assistant.
The following day I did not see Hartell until training. He still seemed fragile and distant, much like he usually is before one of his panic attacks. It will not surprise me if he has one in the next couple of days.
Training didn’t progress as well as usual. He seemed reluctant to take part, more interested in some message he received. I suspect Sterling again, but couldn’t confirm this.
I intend to introduce him to my new assistant to see if he’s more willing to open up to her than he is with myself.
