Project Tiara is about celebrating victories, big and small, but it's also about celebrating people. Yesterday, Phil Barron passed away. (←you should read this. It's beautiful.) He was a friend to many, and was an active supporter of Project Tiara (he even had me send one to his wife, because he's just that kind of guy.)

Phil truly deserves to be celebrated, because he was one of those rare people who genuinely took an interest in the lives of others. He was sweet, and witty, and kind, and always took the time to interact and support. I never met Phil in person, but I can say from the very bottom of my heart that I will miss him. His presence in my life was a blessing. 

I wanted to get my thoughts down last night so I could write this post today, so I made a voice note of what was going on in my head, mainly about the nature of Twitter and the people who make it so special, but I think I'll just share the audio instead of trying to write it all out. I honestly think it gets the point across better. 

And in Phil's honor, as a tribute to the good he brought into this world, be kind to each other, hug your cats, enjoy life, be engaged, vote.

Definitely not a bad legacy, Phil. Godspeed, my friend.

huuuuuuge congrats to dolly moehrle (@loather), for her upcoming appearance on jeopardy!!! tune in on thursday, september 25th and watch her drop some knowledge, librarian-style!

also, she recently went from "kick-ass law librarian" to "kick-ass library director", for which we should probably send her a new, grander tiara. we'll see how she does on jeopardy first. ;)

i did a series of cross stitch commissions, in return for donations to project tiara, and here are the results. such a fun project for me! coming up with the patterns let me try my hand at mixing cross stitch fonts, and let me used some crazy or old-fashioned patterns that i never would have had an opportunity to use. if you want a quote or a song lyric stitched up, hit me up on twitter!

For those of you who don’t know, the mega amazing vforrestal runs this thing called projecttiara as a way to celebrate every small victory and make the world a more sparkly place. (here’s her blog post on it if you’re interested)

awhile ago, I submitted my victory as getting asked to co-un-chair the CurateCamp (here is the Wiki with all the collaborative google docs from sessions yesterday) and received this beautiful unicorn cat princess tiara this morning. Complete with a Shiny Unicorn horn. Val, you (and your mom!!!) have outdone yourself. This is the most amazing thing I could have ever found on my desk this morning (AND I also had a sweet note from kateordie sorry kate the tiara won) and thank you, thank you, thank you val for being the most amazing and thoughtful.

This is Carmen (@carmendarlene). She is one of my fave librarians, because she is both awesome at her job, and a super nice person. Like for realz. When I was in Cali for my birthday a few years back, she organized a TIARA PARTY for me at a place called ALBIE'S BEEF INN. I can't even narrow down the part of that sentence that is the awesomest. BECAUSE ALL OF IT IS AWESOME. Albie's Beef Inn = naked lady paintings, a lounge singer playing a baby grand piano, and a caricaturist. I'm not making any of that up. Anyway, the point is that Carmen is awesome. She also recently had an article published and received a travel grant and ran a 5k and has a cute pup. Thank you, Carmen, for being an asset to the profession and a super cool gal. Please tell @danwho​ to give you a high five for me.
