Our first swim was the last swim of summer. You said I needed boys that Smelt like the sea; Now that they are gone And you are right Memories lurk down by the wooden boats. Things I didn’t know about; I hate not knowing everything. It is a reminder that the world exists without me, That I am not a part of everything. If only I had known then You can only romanticise something when it’s gone, Like some kind of consolation prize for your loss. I will shut my eyes, open my legs And view the world as I see it. I find myself wishing there was only one place I had ever known you So I could destroy it. There are too many places that have part of me. We drove back the following night and you said We had won And I knew by you saying it that we hadn’t.

when it’s night and our hearts are glowing neither of us are afraid to say what’s on our minds close is a foreign word and the togetherness that we feel cannot be explained in words close isn’t close and could be so much closer put your body on mine and let me melt into your memories but it’s night and when the sun trickles in through the window our hearts will quiet the sunshine will shush our souls and we will be strangers yet again i’ll probably forget my sweater but you won’t notice until the phone calls stop i’ll only see you one other time on the subway you’ll be holding hands with this beautiful girl with blue eyes you’ll see me and smile and for those brief moments we’ll remember what could have beens and beautiful memories it’ll be okay we can still try
