Fear and Punishment // musings/open
Henry opened his mouth like he was going to say something in response, but closed it quickly after realizing he didn’t have a counter to that. If Panne didn’t hate him for endangering the camp and wasn’t going to stay mad at him then he wasn’t going to push the issue any further, even if he didn’t quite understand why.
He stayed unusually quiet as he followed her back to her tent and obediently sat down when she motioned for him to do so, taking a quick glance around the interior of the tent before turning to watch as Panne took out medicinal herbs and bandages.
"…Yeah, okay. No more summoning the dead," he agreed, somewhat reluctantly despite everything that had gone wrong with that evening’s prank; if only Tharja hadn’t dropped the whole reeking box on his summoning sigil it really could have been funny! But even Henry could recognize that now wasn’t the time to argue about that.
"Hey Panne, you suuuure you wanna patch me up?" the mage piped up thoughtfully after a while, after he had slipped off his wristband and rolled up his sleeve to properly expose the still faintly oozing gash on his arm.
"Not asking like a punishment thing, promise! But it might make a neat-o scar, y’know…" He tilted his head, studying the way the fresh wound stood out on his skin and the shape meshed with the other numerous old marks there.
Panne wished she understood Henry more. Maybe if she did, she could grasp his compulsion towards these foolish pranks. Maybe even understand his joy for such wicked magic. He was a good soul, she knew he was, because in the brief time they got to know each other, she saw glimpses of it. And yet he remained fixated on death and curses and the undead. She supposed it wasn't her right to judge him for that. It wasn't as if Panne didn't have her own fair share of 'habits'.
Kneeling before him, she took his hand in her own. Henry dwarfed compared to her. Even while she sat like this, she still came up to his chest. Even her hand nearly engulfed his. She snorted lightly at his request. "If you do not go to a healer afterwards then yes, it shall leave a scar. A nasty one, perhaps. With jagged edges and a sinewy white tissue..." Humoring him might have been a mistake but if she could just get him to smile again...
