This show in Téte in Berlin ends on Saturday the 12th of March!
R U W
I am part of a very inspirering fellowship Initiated by the Dutch artist Hans Könings - a magazine with original artpieces sterted up a coupple of years ago... We just released no. 4, and showing it in Berlin together with other work of 13 amazing artists in this group! Come by Téte in Shhönhauser Alle 161A and have a look!
I am showing Oubli sur l'Herbe for the opening of "Lange nacht der Bilder" 2. October starting at 18.30 I am very proud of my new partner in this performance Lena Chen! Oubli sur l'Herbe is talking about objectification - of our bodies. Come by BLOATELIERS Kaskel Strasse 55 if you are in Berlin! A major programme is put together of many artists. I will name Open Space Performunion among many!
I promised a photo of my new studio... Here it is... A lot of thing happened since my last post. First of all, as you can see, I have settled here. The room is beautyful, and usually I need some time to adjust to a new studio, but this time I allmost started to work from day one. The rooms are so inspirering, and I have finished to new sculptural sketches and several paintings and drawings.. In May, Bea and me had a show in Galleri Claus C. In Copenhagen. The show went well - we both had sale. Now we are preparing for going to Paris and Brussels to make performances in September. i was in Denmark to pick up earlier works - they were in plastilina, and melted in the heat on the way home... I have reconstructed them. Pics will come!!
A lot of things happened since last blog. I moved to my new studio, and I am now in the basement. This is much better for me, now I can work with bigger pieces again! I am very happy for that. It was wonderful years in the old studio, but it was getting a bit narrow, and the years with immersion in smaller works is coming to an end. I am very excited to find out what the new rooms has to tell me! I will soon post some photos! Don't worry! This year I am taking part in Koelner Liste during the Art Cologne, 15th - 19th of April. I am doing the "Smiles of the World (Köln)", and also showing my big sculpture "We want sex" as an eyecatcher for the Koelner Liste! Come by to have a look and get scanned! Bea and me are showing in Copenhagen in May at Gallery Claus C. In Store Kongensgade 118. Opening at the 8th! Show up! We are both showing ceramic sculpture and paintings, and I bring some bronze sculptures too, as well as some collages!
What is ART for? I was at a party at a friends studio the other day. Great party, good food and a lot of young artists.. Later in the evening we came to talk about art, as allways when artists are together. Very soon the talk was about money and fame... For me, as an older artist who have lived doing my work for over 30 years, it is a discussion I have often had with collegues offcause. What stroke me this time was that it seemed to me that it for the most of the young artists was the main goal, to get famous and then rich. I tried to bring the discussion to other topics, such as way of expression, content, social importance, and such stuff. Nobody seemed to care about those topics, or wanted to discuss it. It seemed to me that the only thing was to find out a way to catch attension - to get a good galery - to make easy money... I was very puzzeled... In my career it was allways about content, about research. Researching on what an artpiece actually is? And why are some humans doing stuff like that? For what reason, and what can the social function be? I have allways diverted between art and propaganda. Propaganda delivers answers - art delivers questions. It can be small questions such as: what is a shoe? Why does a nose look like a nose? Things like that. Or big questions like: why are we here? How do the two sexes interact? How do we see and how do perception work? What is the relation between lines and color? What interaction do forms and shapes have? Propaganda tells you how to manage those questions, gives you the answers, comfort you... That is why an artpiece often needs time - you need to spend time with an artpiece, to formulate the questions in yourself, and to find YOUR answers - to build a dialogue between you and the artpiece. It is nothing about "understand ART" it is about being openminded to understand yourself..
Here is a photo of Elle, I made her for Bogense in 1997! It is a great joy for me to see all the beautiful photos the sailors are doing when they reach the harbour of Bogense! As I understand it many people see her as a special sign of the small town north on Funen. That is something that warms the heart of an artist. Allthough there have been some contraversy during the years, I have the feeling that the people starts to love as much as I do. I have allways felt a great responsability to people who has to look at my works in public space everyday. A sculpture in public space is a dominating generator of energy, and if that energy is negative - for me - it would be a disaster...
Great to take part! Thank you all! This is my latest performance in Sczcecin in Poland!
This is a sketch for a new big sculpture! Made for a city at the harbour in Austria! I would really like to see her in big!

With Love
Last week and this week “the Unforgettable GRÜNhorse” is having its 20 years Jubilee at Filosofgangen in Odense, where we started 20 years ago. It is strange so fast the time passed, since we started this group of womderful artists! We have been showing around in Denmark, not every year - but when we felt for it! I think it helped the group to keep its vitality, and I think it is fresh as ever! Sometimes I am asked what I think art is - I often answers that I see it as risks and challenge, for all challenging yourself as an artist, not to get stuck in your own expression, allways try to find deeper into your world of creation. When I look at theese group I see just that - artists searching for renewal of their visual language, and thereby leaving a trace of beautiful and fresh works behind them! I am very proud to be a part of this! Above you see my contribution to the exhibition: a Smile from Berlin - a Smile from Osaka - a full Bodyscan, and looking at them an object I call Selbstportrait! Come and have a look for yourselves, mine is just a small contribution to a marvelous show!
Now I am getting ready for Berliner Liste. I am doing my cubistic photography there all four days. You will be able to see the scans of you and other visitors on the flatscreen as a diasshow - as something new I will bring my A3-printer and you will be able to buy your scan directly on the Art fair. Curator for my presence on Berliner Liste is Dirk Thorwarth - whom I want to thank for his great efford and help. As you know the scans - or I name them cubistic photography - is something that takes a lot of my attention at the moment. I find it very interresting to broaden our view on ourselves - we are so used to be defined by traditional photography and TV that we sometimes can forget to look at ourselves with other eyes, to reinvent ourselves! I travel a lot with the SMILES of the WORLD. I want to try to ties us all together in one big smile! Killing and violence is not something that defines the human race in accordance to other mamals, or animals as such.. The SMILE is exclusively human!! I hope to see you and scan you at Berliner Liste.
In the last week we were very busy arranging the "SURVIVAL" international performance festival! It was great days here in Berlin with artists from all over the world! Beautiful performances - some really new interpretation and rethinking of the performance field! It is difficult to name some, because I really liked them all! But Sunday the 31st of August was very moving. Amy Klement: Taking a Line for a Walk! Great! Chuyia Chia: My Right! Wonderful! Saturday the final day was a very special day too: Ingrid Kristensen: Esperanza! Truely touching! And John Power: SENDUNG - TRANSMISSION - a reminder. Bea & I did a performance on Tuesday the 2nd of September: The History of performance Art according to Beate Bendel and Poul R. Weile. We had great fun, as it was only our second performance together we were also very anxious! Everything went well, and we could feel that the Audience was with us! Thank you all!! On the Promo Photo for our performance you see a remake of Yoko Ono and John Lennons BED-IN, a performance they did two times in 1969, 45 years ago....Thank you both! Now the warmongers are showing their ugly face again, that is why we decided to do it! For photos and videoes and the whole programme of SURVIVAL please follow this link: www.openspace32.de
I want to show you this "little" baby! It is the sketch for my next big sculpture! I think it is very importent to take care of the future! Maybe it is age, but this theme is more and more incorporated in my work!
this year it is 45 years ago that Yoko Ono & John Lennon made the Bed-Ins for Peace! To honnor that we made this Serie of Bed-Ins! Peace is Survival!
As part of SURVIVAL International Performancefestival in Berlin, we are showing The History of Performance Art according to Beate Bendel and Poul R.Weile in BLO ateliers, Kaskel Strasse, Berlin. 2. September 16.00
