Closed Starter

Jaqueline was sitting on the beach lit up by the moonlight. It was a calm and serene setting to help a ghost move on and find closure. They weren’t aware however that they were being watched having a discussion with seemingly nobody. To a passerby it’d seem Jackie was talking to the ocean.

“Jumping in the ocean to end things…I’m sorry you felt like that was the only way out.”

They reached out and held the hand of a ghost of a teenage girl. “I lost my brother to suicide. I can understand you in a way. But you don’t need to be afraid anymore. Beyond this plane is light and love I’m sure of it.”

The air was cold but suddenly became warm as the spirit thanked her and faded away.

When they went to stand up they were startled by the person standing behind them. “U-Um hi. When did you get here?”

          chi had been excited. it was summer and they hadn’t gone to the beach in the longest time. though they had been invited by friends, he would have to continuously decline because it was dangerous for him to be exposed to the sunlight.

          but it was night time, and no one would be there. it could just be them and the water. the ocean was always better at night anyways. they were sure they were alone, until they heard the voice.

          chi walked closer to the person sitting in the sand, but as they neared the other, they begun to hear what they were speaking about. ❛ maybe i should just go... ❜

          before chi could walk away, the other turned.

           ❝ uh, i just came... i didn’t mean to eavesdrop... ❞

     immediately gets back up after taking a wipe out on the street. ‘ i’m fine, i’m okay. ’ says it while holding back tears.

          chi blinked.  ❝ are-- are you sure you’re okay? ❞ after taking a wipe like that, chi was surprised the other could get back up so quickly.

She sat her guitar in it’s case and carefully zipped it up. “That’s cool! I always wanted to learn ballet but I was a really clumsy kid.” Ash rested her head on her hands, listening with interest. “It really shows. A little more practice and you’ll be a pro in no time Chi.” 

          ❝ thanks! ❞ chi replied. there wasn’t much else to their life besides dance. dance was their getaway, their escape. it almost made chi feel normal. ❝ it’s okay. stuff like balance takes a lot of practice. i’m sure you would have been a great dancer, though! ❞

          after a moment, chi grinned, ❝ i could teach you some moves sometime. ❞

As she watched Chi dance along to her words and the tune of her guitar she had the biggest smile. They were so fun to watch and they were pretty good at it. Once you started watching you couldn’t tear your eyes away.

Once Chi was done she stopped playing and clapped her hands. “You were really good! You’re timing with the beats is impressive!”

           ❝ thanks! ❞ chi grinned, walking back towards where they had previously sat and plopping back down on the grass. they crossed their legs before speaking again, panting a little between words after their tiring performance,  ❝ i used to take ballet back in korea when i was younger. but when i came here, i wanted to do more hip-hop stuff. i’m still not that great, but i’ve been practicing a lot! ❞

“You’re welcome. It’s easy to get sick from weather like this.” She smiled, leaning against the wall wrapping her arms around herself. “Now you can avoid a lecture from your brother about getting caught in the rain and catching a cold.”

           ❝ yeah, i guess that’s true, ❞ chi pouted,  ❝ at least maybe the rain part.  ❞ the sun’s rays weren’t very strong at the moment, but that didn’t give them a free pass to be outside. chi knew their brother was only like that because he cared about them, but it was seriously overbearing sometimes.
