I️ just read a quote that said “Never be the reason someone asked God for peace” and wow. God forgive me for the times I’ve been the toxic person in someone’s life.

God doesn’t love us begrudgingly. He doesn’t look at us and say, “Well, you’re horribly broken and you struggle so badly in this area, but I guess I’ll love you anyways.” God’s love for us is wild, unashamed, and pure. He doesn’t look at us and say, “Well, you sinned in this way today, so you lost a little bit of the love I could have given you today.” He loves us just the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. He already knows what you’re going to do, and His love for you is still wild, unashamed, and pure. On the days when you’re tempted to tell yourself that you were too horrible and broken for God to love you, whisper this into the depths of your soul: God is love.

Pray for religiously-affiliated and church counselors in my state (WA) to continue speaking God’s truth into the lives of those who come to them with gender related issues. Pray that they would do so boldly and without fear.

Today the state’s House of Representatives voted to criminalize the whole counsel of God, but “We must obey God rather than men” (Acts 5:29).

You think you are obeying God with conversion therapy?

Imagine that you’re a church counselor and a young man or woman comes you saying that they’re struggling with feelings of gender dysphoria - they’re uncomfortable as their biological sex and uncomfortable in their own skin, and they are having difficulty relating to gender roles etc. as set forth in the Bible. You begin to gently speak to and counsel them on this topic, using the Bible to bring them back to a biblical understanding of their identity. They’re happy with their sessions and their life is starting to improve. Then someone in that young person’s life finds out what is going on and reports you to the authorities and you’re arrested and sent to prison.

I guess I’m having a difficult time understand what you mean by “biblical understanding of their identity” you can be gay / ssa and still be a Jesus loving Christian. You don’t need to covert to being straight to enjoy the love and paradise that Jesus sets forth for us. Even conservative Christians agree that as long as you don’t act upon your feelings it’s ok to be gay / ssa. (Although I don’t agree w that but that’s a separate issue) I think the bill is trying to outlaw the actual conversion therapy that causes God’s children to kill themselves & hate themselves bc they aren’t deemed worthy by pastors / fundamentalists

for one, it doesn’t matter what the bill is TRYING to do, it matters what it’s doing.

second, I understand the point about not acting on feelings etc. but think about it another way. This bill is denying those with same sex attractions etc. the right to seek help. Now I refuse to buy the lie that therapy/counseling “doesn’t help” ever. That’s a wicked lie and it’s slander and there is so much lies and slander going around about what the practice is and what it does. All of this sexual identity stuff comes from Freudian attitudes about things like “sexual repression”. It’s scare tactics to stop people from seeking help.

The ban is against attempting to alter the sexual orientation of minors. That’s conversation therapy. You can still go to your pastor / religious official for help. It’s for kids whose parents are forcing then to go to these “therapists”. An adult can still go make that decision for themselves if they wish to go through it. Also I have 0 idea how you can reduce sexual identity comes from Freud. Also I hope you don’t think I am attacking you in any way, just trying to understand how you can think that being in support of this conversion therapy is a good thing

Anyone deserves to be able to get help regardless of their age. It’s not inherently wrong just because that person is a minor. There’s no difference between a minor going to see a church counselor about this issue than about any other issue. If you think there is, then it’s your ideological bias getting in the way. You might as well ban parents from bringing their kids to church.
