I ♥️♥️ my FAVORITE COACH and My Teammates (Breast Cancer Game) and How Goofy I Have Become While Being On The Team 😂
Not Nessecarily A Trophy But I Still Loved It 🥇🏆
Trophies
In the end of my time on the field hockey team I realized made new friends, learned a new sport, picked up social and team skills and became captain all within the span of 4 months. For anyone out there who believes they can’t achieve a specific goal because of lack of experience or just being afraid you won’t succeed, I have learned that anything is possible as long as you are dedicated and willing to try. Field hockey was one of the best experiences of my life. Starting from the bottom and making it to the top is a rewarding experience if your willing to try.
GHS v. NE
Shortly after the JV we had our varsity game against Northeast which was also our last game of the season AKA our senior game AKA our breast cancer game. That was a hectic day for me and the team. All seniors were supposed to have the most time on the field because our season was coming to an end. I played both JV and varsity so I had to save my strength and energy to play in my final game as varsity. This game was completely exhausting because there was little to no substitutes. In the end we lost our varsity game but all the seniors were recognized for their improvements or accomplishments while on the team. My favorite coach said that I was most improved, most dedicated and the “mother” of the team because I always would tell them what I would and wouldn’t do. Besides the last part, that’s why she made me the captain of the junior varsity team.
Being Recognized As Most Improved Player And A Awesome Ass Captain
After The Senior / Breast Cancer Game
Captain Love Is Everything To Me
the C A P T A I N C Y
The captaincy came directly after a JV and varsity game against Northeast high school. I was overexcited to play against them because my cousin is the assistant coach of their school, so kicking their ass would be more than rewarding. The game was intense. Both teams were equally aggressive dominating the field. I remember sprinting back and forth until I was exhausted. My friends were there supporting to kick some Northeast ass. Then I got injured. It was a minor injury to the hand, but I didn’t stop playing the game. I remember swearing like a sailor after it happened and coach Meanie telling me to calm down. I told her to calm down because she wasn’t out there playing. But this was only the JV game. We won of course!

Friends Select > Girls High
It took me a while to warm up to the idea that I practiced to play in actual games that would count towards the season and that’s why I was so scared to play. But the nervousness eventually wore off. It was mid-October, as practices were more frequent, I started to become a stronger more aggressive player. The leaves were officially orange and it was frigid cold outside. But the games still went on. We had a JV game against a private school, Friends Select to be exact. They were top notch as if they just disregarded the academics and focused strictly on sports. Their team wasn’t physically big like central’s team but they were barbaric. Our best players on the team were more than afraid to play that day. But I wasn't, I was more than excited to showcase my skills against these girls. That day I started with my best friend. We both played midfielders. I was right and she was left. I remember being very sick and playing in cold just made it worse. I vividly remember sneezing on a player of the opposing team. The game ended terribly. We lost scoring 1 point. The opposing team had 5 points but we still had high spirits even though we lost another game. My favorite coach had recognized I played my heart out and told me I did a very good job and it would pay off in the long run.
Our pre-season started in September. That’s when varsity had their first scrimmage against our rival school Central. I was terrified by the thought of playing those girls. They were giants compared to everyone on the varsity team including me. After several weeks of hard intense practice, Coach M finally thought I was ready to wear a varsity jersey. I thought otherwise but took the jersey anyways. The game was nerve-wracking. We were down 2-0 and I was content with bench warming that day. Until Coach Meanie called my name to ask if I wanted to enter the game after watching everyone nearly faint from exhaustion, I cowardly said no. So my best friend Vanessa substituted in, she was new too but had more courage and confidence than me. From that moment I knew I had to stop being a little girl and actually try in the games I practice three hours five days a week for.
The first picture was after the game I was excited to be in my varsity jersey #11.
The second picture is my best friend Vanessa at our senior game she was #12 and I was #11
The third picture was at the first game,it was too ugly to show my face so I drew a heart over it so nobody could see my ugliness.
The fourth picture was hours after the game, I was thinking about how I should’ve played.
My first practice was awkward and brutal. It was the typical august day, temperatures well above eighty degrees and the sun was scorching the field. I was so concerned with what I had on (, which was athletic shorts, a regular graphic tee, color socks and running sneakers) and what impression the coaches and team would get from me. They would just assume that I was just another girly girl that wouldn’t fully commit to getting down and dirty on the field. Most likely because of my long acrylic nails and curls flowing from my head but I had a very good explanation for that. The practice was on the same day as my senior portraits so I was usually dressed up for practice, with lip gloss and earrings on. Besides my anxiety of wanting to be taken seriously as an athlete, everyone seemed to be more skilled than me, therefore, I was worried. I didn’t even have the proper equipment other than my ball and stick. No shin guards, no cleats, no mouth guard and no field goggles. I was totally unprepared and embarrassed. The varsity coach was hostile and pressuring towards the team and towards me on my first day of practice. Coach Meanie was very determined for us to dominate this season, whereas I just wanted to try my best and give it all I could. She was very vocal on how she felt about our performance at practice and on the field during a game. I got a taste of this during my first practice because I was hitting the ball with the wrong side of the stick, which is illegal in field hockey. On the other hand, The junior varsity coach was the complete opposite of Coach Meanie. She was understanding, accepting and willing to bring me to my fullest potential of being a field hockey player. Therefore she was my favorite coach.
the beginning
I joined the field hockey team my senior year of high school, after questioning myself all summer if I really wanted to play. The opportunity finally came when the class of 2015 graduated and went off to college. I didn’t really like their class. They were obnoxious and thought they knew everything about everyone. For girls, they were very aggressive in the use of their language and actions. So I was even happier with my decision to join the team. Even though I had zero experience I wasn’t intimidated by my teammates who we potentially better than me.
My senior year of high school, I knew it was time for a change. I wanted to do something I’d never done before. I wanted to strive in more than just academics; step out of my comfort zone and build new friendships with different people I wouldn't usually associate myself with. I wanted to be involved in something other than the annual dance show and contest activities. I always wanted to play a sport but could never figure which one I could dedicate myself to and actually enjoy. Field hockey was the sport I constantly dreamed of playing.
