- betsy is japanese-british, and grew up on landed estate in essex with her twin brother, brian. i don’t acknowledge the body swapping.

elizabeth braddock was the eldest of the twins ; minutes before her brother, brian was born. on st.george’s day no less, because betsy always had to come second to brian and his life choices. the twins were so different from such a young age , with brian being bookish and studious, and betsy adventurous and daring — she was closer to their elder brother, jamie, then she ever was to her own twin.
she wanted the daring, the reckless, it was no wonder she went off the rails and was sent to boarding school as soon as she hit twelve. she became a model and a pilot, and whatever else she fancied —all the while unknowing her brother had been chosen to be the new captain britain — because it was always brian, even if betsy considered herself a much more capable potential hero ( it is this recklessness that defines why she is not. )
soon , what she just thought was the ability of twins to read each others’ mind turned out to be true telepathy she got her wish in being a hero , and assisted captain britain as part of s.t.r.i.ke ( the british equivalent to s.h.i.e.l.d ). ever ambitious, she had better instincts than she did skills, which led to her getting into more trouble than she could ever get out of.
she was rescued from a period of being kidnapped in mojo world by the x-men, and chose to remain with them, hoping to be able to train to one day be the one saving others and not being saved. she blossomed within the x-men, making fast friends despite pretentious rich girl attitudes, furthering her skills and cementing herself as a regular amongst their teams — until a fight forced her to flee through the siege perilous.
she washed up in china without a memory , and was taken in by matsu’o tsurayaba - a figure head of the hand. he moulded the blank slate of a telepath into his perfect weapon. his perfect assassin. an assassination attempt that crossed paths with wolverine jogged enough forgotten memories to cause betsy to reject her new life and return to the x-men.
but her encounters and training drastically changed not only how she defined herself as a warrior, but how she thought the x-men should act, often placing her at odds with her teammates. she came back to the team, but she was no longer the english rose they remembered -- she’d always been a bit bloodthirsty , but she seemed to be unable to stop.
her situation brought her closer to warren worthington , archangel , as the similarities in their situation ( as well as betsy’s telepathic aid in combating warren’s apocalyptic side ) meant that they understood each other - accepted each other - in ways other people couldn’t. they were not good people , but they could find comfort in each other - except neither of them had the belief in themselves to make it work. but boy did they try , and fail , repeatedly.
in this new universe , betsy is doing her best to try and carve out something for herself -- - old comforts and support of no longer being a multi-millionaire led her to rooming with also no - longer millionaire ex-boyfriend in a strictly platonic way.
