Sam chucked at him. He knew it didn’t sound convincing, but he was hoping that he convinced himself. “I mean you sound mature all the time but calling her your wife has a different sound to it.” Sam smiled at his friend, truly happy for him. “I have been calling Cedes my wife since I was 16, so I know how amazing it is. I just have to get up the courage to propose to her.” Sam noticed Laya waking up. “Um, how much longer to we have? I’m pretty sure Laya will be hungry. I wanted us to meet the girls for lunch or something.”

James moved towards the front and nodded. “Well when you are ready you will pop the question. Don’t rush into it but don’t take forever either.” James pulled out his wallet and showed cashier his receipt. “We just came in for our measurements. I was told we can pick them up a few days before the wedding.” “Yes sir they will be ready the 2nd.” “Great.” James turned to Sam. “Yeah lets go I am starving and I miss my baby,

Sam didn’t know how he was going to make it two days without his girls, but he was going to try.”Of course I can…well I think I can…piece of cake.” Sam knew that was a lie. It would not be so simple. “Yea, I have to ask Mercedes also because she will kill me for going without telling her. I can’t be in the dog house. That’s brutal.” Sam smiled when he called Court his wife. “You sound so mature when you call her your wife. How does that make you feel?”

James shook his head. “Yeah that was very convincing.” He laughed stepping down from the stool. “I sound mature? How do I sound any other time? Seriously though it feels amazing. I can’t imagine ever calling her anything else. Wife, wifey, soulmate, Mrs. Matthews. They all sound pretty sweet to me. Try calling Cedes your wife see how it feels.”

Sam chuckled. “I promise no strippers. We are not hanging out the night before your wedding because I don’t want to be responsible for you showing up with a hangover. We can go two days before the wedding.” Sam eyes lit up at an idea he had. “How about we go to Vegas next weekend? Just us. We can gamble and got to a couple of shows. It will be fun. What do you say?”

James smiled shaking his head. “You sure you can go two days without your girls? Vegas sounds like fun but you know I have to run it past Court I don’t want her think I am hiding anything from her. I have a few sessions on Saturday but I can have another trainer work with them. So I say yes! To a guys night. Pending my wife agrees.” James wanted to spend that time with Sam but he was not a fool.

Sam nodded. I won’t wait too long. I love her and she will be my wife one day.” Sam knew that no matter what, Mercedes will be his wife. He was so sure of that. “Man you are whipped. I mean one of the best things about a wedding is that you get to have one last night of freedom. We don’t have to do strippers because I’m pretty sure Mercedes and Court will kill us, but we could have a bros night…just us. We can paint the town.” The attendant finished taking Sam’s measurements so Sam sat back down next to Laya waiting for James to get done.

James grabbed his phone and glanced at his schedule. “Well if we have to have a guys night I am free the night before the wedding. But we have the rehearsal dinner that night too, Would that still work? And yes you better not have any strippers anywhere near me, I don’t need that kinda drama before my wedding day. We would both go missing.” James took Sam’s place on the stool and held out his hands. He knew Court trusted him but he still didn’t need to give her a reason to get mad at him.

Sam wanted to marry Mercedes more than anything, but they never really talked about it. He wanted to change the conversation while he figured out what he wanted to do. "Well, let’s get through your wedding first and then I will think about proposing to her. Any thought on your bachelor party? You are having one, aren’t you?

James nodded. "Ok, we can drop it for now but word of advice, don't wait to long." James thought about his bachelor party and shrugged. "Honestly I haven't given it much thought. I have been so excited about getting married that a party is the furthest thing from my mind. God I really am whipped aren't I?"

Sam knew that James was right. What’s stopping him from asking Mercedes to be his wife? They both are financially secured and they live together, and he adores Laya. But the truth was he was just scared. He didn’t want to ruin what they had. "What if she says she isn’t ready? She was with Miguel for two years and then we went through that paternity crap and then got back together, that’s a lot to adjust to. She might not be ready.” The attendant came out and to take the measurements. Sam looked and saw that Laya fell asleep, so he adjusted her stroller so she could lay back and be comfortable. He stepped on the stool and held out his arms so the attendant could get his measurements. He wanted to marry Mercedes so bad, but he wouldn’t be able to take it if she turned him down.

James nodded. "Yes you guys had to deal with a lot once you came back here, but she choose you. Even after finding out that Miguel was Laya's father, she still choose to be with you instead of making it work with him. What I remember is for those two years Mercedes wasn't all that happy. Content yes but happy no. She only agreed to marry Miguel because Court convinced her too. And even then Miguel wanted a quick small ceremony but Mercedes told him no. She loves you Sam always has, always will. She won't say no." James smiled sitting in on of the chairs as he waited for his turn to be measured.

Sam laughed at James and his antics but couldn’t help but agree. He was so over protective of Laya that he actually felt sorry for a future boyfriends. He agreed about Miguel. It’s like he slacked off in the father department. He didn’t know how he could stand being away from Laya, when she was on Sam’s mind 24/7. He thought of proposing to Mercedes, but he wasn’t sure she would say yes. He loved her with everything he had, but they did just get back together. "I want to marry her, but we just got back together. I guess I’m trying to give it some time. I don’t want to rush things.”

James noticed Layla dropped her book and he bent down to pick it up. He sighed. "Sam I know you want to take things slow and I applaud that but asking her to marry you, isn't rushing. You have been in love with you since you were what 16? You guys lost so much time, I would just hate to see you lose more. Just think about it, you are already living together, you guys are already a family. Nothing will change except you will call her your wife and not your girlfriend."

Sam thought that him and James were the luckiest men right now. They were both with the love of their lives. He laughed at the bad boy’s reference. “Dude, I am buying a shot got and keeping it by the door. Any boy that comes to the door for her, I don’t care if it’s for a school assignment, he will be met with the gun…then he will tell all of his little friends that she has a crazy white man for a dad and they won’t want to date her. It’s a win win for me men.” Sam pictured the perfect solution. No one would be good enough to date her and he will make it his mission to chase all the little boys away. If he was lucky enough, maybe she will be a lesbian. “She did call me daddy. It was the most perfect things in the world. Of course Miguel said that it was disrespectful, but I didn’t care. I teared up hearing her say it. I didn’t have the heart to tell that she couldn’t call me that…the truth is, she can call me that whenever she wants and I will always answer.” Sam smiled at James. “Great! Get started so Laya could have a play mate.”

James shook his head. “We better not have no little girl I swear kids will know me as Crazy ass James. I promise you man. Dudes gonna be like "Oh she cute let me ask her out” and they boys gonna be like “don’t do that man unless you wanna meet crazy ass James.” I mean it I will show up and show out.“ James laughed. "It’s like I never understood what Court’s dad went through until I started thinking about having kids. She better not bring home a “me” he will get tossed.” James smiled seeing Sam’s face light up. “Man forget Miguel, he is hardly ever around so why would she call him daddy? I mean you might as well be it. Speaking of the family thing, when are you gonna pop the question? I know you want forever with her and Laya so what’s stopping you?”

Sam nodded. “I have always loved her and yea she had a hold on me just like I had one on her. We just have this bond that could never be broken. I love her and Laya with all my heart. I never thought I could love a child that isn’t mine as much as I love Laya. I would give up my life for hers in a heartbeat.” Sam stared at Laya looking at her book. His heart swells every time he looks at her. She’s perfect. He turned his attention back to James. “Everything is cool with Miguel. He picks her up and drop her off with no problem. I think he got a little mad when Laya called me daddy in front of him, but other than that, it’s been smooth sailing. So when are you and court going to have a little bundle of joy?”

James nodded. "I get that. I didn't before but I do now we are pretty lucky man. We found the love of our lives." James sighed looking down to Laya as Sam spoke. "Bro trust me I know how you feel. I was there when she was born and I never really like kids, you know that but Court made me hole her and I swear she took a piece of me man. And in that moment I knew how Will Smith felt in Bad Boys 2. Even back then I somehow knew it would be me and you scaring young dudes away from this little Angel." James looked up to Sam in shock. "Wait, she called you daddy? Are you serious? That is huge, how did you react what did you do?" James scratched his head. "Honestly, seeing you with Laylay makes me want to have one as soon as possible."

Sam smiled at how James was getting so sappy. He knew that his friend had it bad for Court ever since high school no matter how much he tried to deny it. He was happy for him. He deserved happiness and he was happy that his best friend was getting a happy ending. “She does make you a better man, I mean I love Jerky James, but this version of you is cool too.” Sam knew just what James was talking about. He felt the same for Mercedes. He didn’t want to live life without her. “Things are going great with her. It’s like our family is coming together. No more sneaking around. We can just be together. I love her man.”

James nodded. "You have always loved her man. I think anyone with eyes could see it but her. I am glad it worked out though. Glad you guys have your shot. I know I wasn't your biggest supporter at first. It’s just I saw the hold she had on you and it made me worried. I couldn't see that you had that same hold on her. But finally admitting how I felt for Court opened my eyes to who you guys really shared." He walked over to the ties. "So how is playing Daddy going? You and Miguel doing good?"

Sam looked at James and Laya and his heart swelled. Laya had so many people that loved her. It was a blessing. “Yea, I am….I mean you better be lucky it’s your wedding or I would not be spending my Saturday in a Tux place.” He took Laya and put her in her stroller while they looked at the suits they were supposed to be trying on. “So man the day is rapidly approaching, are you nervous? You’re going to spend eternity with Court…I think you’re the only that could tame her. How do you do it?”

James laughed. "Yeah me neither but if we don't come out of here with everything we need ready to get sized Court will kill me then you, then me again." He lifted the three piece tux in front of him and sighed at Sam's comment. "I think for us it works both ways. I mean she isn't nearly as..." he paused looking at Laya. "Witchy as she used to be and I am not a complete Jerk anymore. She literally made me a better man and I hope I made her a better woman. I swear this may sound corny but she's my other half dude. The one I can't imagine my life without." He looked over to the top hats and smiled. "So what about you and Ms. Cedes? How are things going?

Sam was looking forward to spending some bro time with James. He had his side kick Laya with him since Miguel had to work. Sam didn’t mind taking Laya with him. He enjoyed spending time with her. He was going to dress her in the clothes that Mercedes laid out for her, but decides to pick out her clothes himself. How hard was it to dress a two year old is the question he asked as he put on her zebra leggings with her polka dot green shirt. He figured black and white go with everything, so why not zebra stripes and polka dots. He looked over his work and was very proud of his dressing skills. He packed her up and put her in the car seat. About 20 minutes later he was at the Tux place with Laya in his arms. He saw James immediately and went over to him. “Hey dude….I have my little side kicked with me today, and guess what? I dressed her myself!” he said excitedly.

James whistled happily as he stood around waiting for Sam. His wedding was a two weeks away and he was ready to make Court his wife. He had known for a while that what he felt for her was nothing like any other woman in his life and now he gets to spend the rest of his life proving to her how much he loved her and how she truly did make him a better man. Seeing Sam get out his car a grin spread across his face as he pulled Laya from the car. It was becoming rare to see them separated. Even though he wasn't Laya's biological father, Sam never looked at her as anything less than his daughter. He high fived Sam before reaching out and grabbing Laya. "I see man, you look so beautiful today Laylay." He kissed her cheek then looked at Sam. "So you ready to try these monkey suits on?"
