What:Â James and Courtâs wedding day has a few surprises/
James stood at the altar not being able to contain his excitement, Courtney was the love of his life and finally he was making her his wife. He had spent the majority of the morning with Sam and his dad getting rid of his nerves. He was more afraid that he wasn't going to be everything she needed. He wasn't the greatest catch and he knew that, he still had flaws but Court was there for him and she made him a better man. He glanced over to Sam as the music started, this was it, within a few moments Court would be his wife and he would get to spend the rest of his life showing her that she made the right choice.
Court didn't know why she was so nervous. She was marrying the love of her life. She has been in love with James since high school, but she never thought they would get married. She looked at herself in the mirror and couldn't be happier. She took her eyes off the mirror because she didn't want to start crying and mess up her make up. She turned to Mercedes and then her stomach dropped. How could she be happy, knowing what she does? She felt a tear fall and quickly wiped it with a tissue. "Mercy, I ..." The words were stuck in her throat. She didn't know how to say it. "I'm so nervous and happy that James is going to be my husband." She knew it was a cop out, but she didn't know what else to say.
Sam smiled at James never thinking he would see him get married. But he is glad that he is here to witness James and Court's union. This was going to be great, but he couldn't help to wander what his and Mercy's wedding would be like. He didn't know when, but he was determined to see her in a white dress walking towards him. When Sam heard the music, he whispered to James. "Last chance, I got the getaway car parked in the back."
Mercedes finished her makeup and was thrilled that Courtney was finally getting her day. She deserved it, Court was her best friend and she deserved happiness. Smoothing down her bridesmaid dress she walked over to Court pulling her into a hug. "Court you need to stop before you start crying and then I am gonna cry and we are gonna be late for your own wedding." Mercedes heard the music playing and she stood up biting her lip in excitement. "This is it babe you are about to be a married woman. Let's get going I want to see Laya walk down the aisle in her flower girl dress."
James laughed and shook his head at Sam. "No need to run, this is something I know I want with all my heart. You need to hurry up and get Mercedes down the Aisle and you will know how I am feeling." James looked towards Laya as she was lead down the aisle by Mercedes mother, seeing her both made him smile but made him a little sad, he really wished she was Sam's but knowing that Sam still loved her like his own, showed the kind of man his best friend really was. He smiled towards Sam. "Well look at the little princess. I can't wait til Court and I have our own..."
Court knew Mercedes was right. They didn't need her crying and looking a hot mess on her wedding day. She relaxed in Mercedes arms and nodded her head. Mercedes always gave the best hugs. She followed her and saw Mercedes mom and Laya and she felt her emotions all over again. She knew she had to get it together. She smile at Mercedes. "You're turn mama. I'll see you there."
Sam smiled at James. He knew how James was feeling because he felt that way every time he's with Mercedes. Sam's heart warmed seeing Laya. She was the cutest thing and he was happy that she was in his life. He held his breath not sure if he was prepared to see Mercy come down the aisle.
Mercedes smiled seeing Laya and squeezed Courts hand before taking a deep breath and walking into the church. Her eyes immediately locked onto Sam's and her heart filled like it wanted to burst. She smiled widely at him sending a wink his way. God he looked so handsome and downright sexy in his tux. As she reached the end it took everything in her not to rush up and kiss him. Instead she just blew him a kiss and took her spot.
James smiled looking over to Sam and seeing the look on his face, Sam was definitely a man in love. He nudged him gently. "Wipe the drool off of your face man." He said jokingly, his own laugh caught in his throat as he turned towards the entrance and saw Court standing there. She had to be the most beautiful woman he has ever seen. His emotions started getting the best of him, he knew he was lucky to have her but in that moment he felt like the luckiest man in the world.
Sam was speechless as Mercedes walked down the aisle. She was such a visionary. So beautiful and classy. He couldn't help to imagine her walking down the aisle to him. He loved her and he knew she would be Mrs. Evans one day soon. He didn't know how he was able to control himself because all he wanted to do was grab her and kiss her senseless. Sam was in such a trance that he didn't see James or Court. Just Mercedes.
Court took a breath as she walked down the aisle and her eyes locked on to James. Her James. The man she was going to spend all of eternity with. How did she get so lucky? She smiled at him with misty eyes hoping that she can hold it together until after the ceremony. She loved him so much and knew that she was making the right decision. She kissed her father on the cheeks and hooked on to James arms. "Hi love."
James took Court's hand and kissed the back of it as she stood in front of him. "Hi beautiful." He tore his eyes away from her looking towards the minster. Hearing him speak about love and faith. Hearing him talk about everlasting life and finding your true love, made him realize that he was blessed for marrying his soul mate. While they had thought about doing traditional vows, James was glad to get to express himself. "So I know I am not the most eloquent speaker and sometimes I don't have the right words, but looking at you standing in front of me, getting to tell you how amazing I think you are, how beautiful and honest you are. Getting to share my life with you and let our friends and family know that you make me a better man, I realize that I am very blessed. You are the best thing that has ever happened to me Courtney, and I promise to spend the rest of my life making you the happiest woman in the world, I can't wait until we start our family and our children inherit your good heart and beautiful smile."
Mercedes watched Court and James interact and knew he truly had changed. This James who stood before her declaring his love for Courtney was not the same James she always knew. She glanced at Sam not being able to wait for her wedding day with Sam. They had been through so much and she really just could not wait to become his wife. As James continued Mercedes wipe a stray tear from her eye, she had never known him to be mushy, but love suited him.
Sam was proud of James. But looking at Mercedes made him envy James a bit. He wanted his turn to come out. He wanted tears of love and joy that he knew Mercedes would be doing. He just wanted all of this so bad.
Court couldn't contain her tears. She felt everything that James had said, but when he got to the honest part, she felt like the worst person in the world. She had to come clean if she wanted marital bliss with James. "That was so beautiful baby. You inspire me every day to do the right thing." She took a deep breath as her tears blinded her. "Baby, I'm so sorry. I love you so much... more than humanly possible. But I'm no good for you. I can't marry you." She couldn't bear to look him in the eyes so she took off down the aisle and went into her dressing room. She felt like her heart was shattered into a million pieces.
James smiled widely until she got to the part of not being able to marry him. "Baby wait, what?" He was confused he knew she loved him, but wasn't sure why she was turning away from him. Before he could stop her she ran away and he couldn't do anything but follow after her praying she changed her mind.
Mercedes watched Courtney run down the aisle and immediately followed after her wondering what had just happened. She followed her to the dressing room and pulled her close. "Court what's wrong? You love James, he is everything to you and I have seen him grow so much. You want to marry him I know you do. So why run?"
Sam didn't know what the hell was going on. One minute everything was lovey dovey and mushy, the next thing, the bride was running up the aisle. He followed behind Mercedes and James, wanting to be there for James. Court blind sides him, and Sam want to know why. He walked in the room and saw Mercedes comforting her. He stood next to James waiting for Court to explain herself. "Just to let yâall know, this isn't runaway bride."
Court looked at the room full of her friends ignoring Sam's comment. "I'm sorry guys, for being so damn dramatic." She paused and looked at each and every one of them and knew that the time to come clean was now even if it meant she would lose James forever. She walked over to him and gave him a long sensuous kiss. She needed to feel his loving kiss one more time before he walks out of her life. She slowly pulled away and addressed him and the rest of the room. "I have to come clean. I have been lying for the last couple of months and I couldn't marry James with this secret weighing so heavily on my heart."
James kissed Court back holding her close. Hearing her say that she had to come clean scared him. He knew she couldn't have cheated on him but what if she did? He pulled away and stared down to her. "Baby you aren't making any sense, please just tell me what is going on. What secret are you talking about?"
Mercedes moved closer to Court and shook her head. "Court I have known you since middle school, you are my best friend, my sister. You don't have a bad bone in your body what on earth could you have done that warrants you running out on your own marriage ceremony?"
Sam didn't know what was going on and secretly wondered if Court was pregnant. He mood swings and emotions were all over the place and he really just wanted to take Mercedes in the bathroom for a few rounds.
Court heard James and Mercedes, but she knew that everyone in the room would hate her. But she had to do what she had to do. "Merce, I love you so much. We have always been closer than anything. You're my sister and I would do anything for your happiness, even if it's not the right thing. I just want you to know that and forgive me. I love you so much and I don't want to lose you at all."
James took Courts hand. "Baby you really are not making any sense. Letâs just go finish the ceremony and talk about all this later." James glanced at Court and sighed he just wanted to make he his wife, there was nothing she could say that would make him not want to be with her.
Mercedes nodded. "I know that Court. I can't forgive you if I don't know what you did. Just tell me what's going on and we can work through it like we do everything."
Sam was getting a little frustrated. Why couldn't she just spit it out so they could get on with the ceremony? He had a very special night planned and right now Court was ruining it. He did feel for James though.
Court nodded her head. This was it. "I just wanted you to be happy and Sam seemed to always bring you down. You were so happy with Miguel, at least I thought you were. But now I know how wrong I was. "When I went to go check on Miguel at the hospital when we were waiting for the results, we ran into Laura and she had the results." Court closed her eyes dreading this part.
James stood in silence as Court began to speak. She couldn't be saying what it sounded like she was saying. He wanted to speak up but decided to wait until she was finished saying talking.
Mercedes knew that Court didn't see how great Sam was in the beginning. She thought they were over that though. But when she started talking about the paternity results Mercedes grew confused. "Court but we know the results Laya is Miguel's. So why bring this back up?"
Sam ears perked up like it always did when Laya was mentioned. He wanted to know what the big deal was and he wished Court would just spit it out.
Court needed to get this out so they can begin to fix things. "I asked Laura to alter the results so that it showed as Miguel being the father instead of Sam." She looked up at Mercedes with apologetic eyes. "I'm so sorry Merce. I thought I was doing the right thing."
Sam chucked at him. He knew it didnât sound convincing, but he was hoping that he convinced himself. âI mean you sound mature all the time but calling her your wife has a different sound to it.â Sam smiled at his friend, truly happy for him. âI have been calling Cedes my wife since I was 16, so I know how amazing it is. I just have to get up the courage to propose to her.â Sam noticed Laya waking up. âUm, how much longer to we have? Iâm pretty sure Laya will be hungry. I wanted us to meet the girls for lunch or something.â
James moved towards the front and nodded. âWell when you are ready you will pop the question. Donât rush into it but donât take forever either.â James pulled out his wallet and showed cashier his receipt. âWe just came in for our measurements. I was told we can pick them up a few days before the wedding.â âYes sir they will be ready the 2nd.â âGreat.â James turned to Sam. âYeah lets go I am starving and I miss my baby,
James shook his head. âYeah that was very convincing.â He laughed stepping down from the stool. âI sound mature? How do I sound any other time? Seriously though it feels amazing. I canât imagine ever calling her anything else. Wife, wifey, soulmate, Mrs. Matthews. They all sound pretty sweet to me. Try calling Cedes your wife see how it feels.â
