Over 90 percent rape cases go unreported in Indonesia - poll
By Beh Lih Yi
JAKARTA, July 25 (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - More than 90 percent of rape cases in Indonesia go unreported, highlighting the country's "deafening silence" around sexual violence as victims fear being blamed, organisers of a recent poll on the issue said on Monday.
The survey was carried out after the gang-rape and murder of a schoolgirl sparked public outrage.
It was published last week, on the same day the government pledged to set up a centre to collect statistics on rape, seen by campaigners as an important step in helping prevent future sexual assaults.

Hillary Clinton Calls Out Debate Moderators For Ignoring Women’s Health
“We’ve had eight debates before; this is our ninth. We’ve not had one question about a woman’s right to make her own decisions about reproductive health care — not one question,” Clinton said. “And in the meantime we have states, governors doing everything they can to restrict women’s rights,” she added. “We have a presidential candidate by the name of Donald Trump saying that women should be punished. And we are never asked about this.”

The Everyday Sexism Project
The Everyday Sexism Project exists to catalogue instances of sexism experienced by women on a day to day basis. They might be serious or minor, outrageously offensive or so niggling and normalised that you don’t even feel able to protest. Say as much or as little as you like, use your real name or a pseudonym – it’s up to you. By sharing your story you’re showing the world that sexism does exist, it is faced by women everyday and it is a valid problem to discuss.
