The reaction that Jae gave wasn’t the one she had been looking for and it took a couple of second before she could look down at the ground between the two of them. One word and she felt her heart stop and the entire world felt like it had stopped spinning. She shook her head. Absolutely not. There was no way she was going to do this right now. “No….no…no.” It was the only word she could repeat as she flung open the door to the bathroom and stormed out. She refused to be pregnant. It wasn’t that she didn’t eventually want to have a family Jae, but the point was that it would be eventually. Not when their life together was just getting started.

Jae knew there was going to be a negative reaction from Noelle but he wasn’t anticipating her storming out of the bathroom. He wanted to chase after her, but all he could do was stand there and stare at the test in front of his feet. He was frozen and no matter how much his mind screamed at him to move, he couldn’t. He tried to start with a finger, which would hopefully have a spiral effect on the rest of his body, but everything just stopped working. All he could do was fall to the floor, curl up into a ball and cry into his knees. The single thought repeating in his mind: This can’t be happening.

[ a few hours later ]

Hours passed by the time he came to. He was still sitting on the bathroom floor but the sun was almost completely out of the sky. It took a few more seconds to remember what had happened and all over again he was hit with the weight of the positive test at his feet. Then suddenly he remembered Noelle storming out of the bathroom and he stood up in a frenzy. Panic took over and not because of what was happening but because of what Noelle could possibly do in her current state. He cursed himself for being so selfish and not thinking of the consequences and ran into his room, hoping to find her there.

When he wrapped his arms around her, Noelle struggled to keep it together. Even if she knew that she couldn’t do it, she was trying to do everything that she could to make sure that she didn’t completely lose it and try her best to still remain strong. She worried that her arms were wrapped too tightly around him but she couldn’t bring herself to loosen her grip on him because she needed something to hold onto. She wanted to believe that they were going to get through this together like they did with everything else, but that didn’t make her any less scared for the potential situation they were in. The silence was heavy and she tried to focus on her breathing. Nearly jumping out of her own skin when the timer went off, Noelle could feel the pressure tighten in her chest as her hands started to shake. “I can’t look.”

It was the longest three minutes of Jae’s life. And he could only imagine how long it felt for Noelle. Every time she tightened her grip, he did so as well until they were so intertwined, an onlooker couldn’t tell them apart. His mind was flooded with the possibilities, his anxiety making him think of the worse scenarios. They were just learning how to take care of themselves, how could they possibly take care of someone else? His hands were on autopilot, rubbing up and down her back as he pressed small kisses to her neck. The timer made him jump as well and it took him longer than necessary to turn it off. He knew he would be the one to have to look at it. So before he could think about it, he pulled away just enough to pick up the test and as soon as he caught a glimpse of the results, he dropped it between them, in complete shock.

She had been hoping that his next words would be for them to pretend like this wasn’t happening, stuffing the test away and moving on with the rest of their summer. However, she knew that one way or the other, they were going to find out the truth somewhere down the road. “Okay yeah okay.” She nodded her head but didn’t move right away. Staying in Jae’s arms was a lot safer than pulling herself from the ground and going through with this. It took a few long moments before she was finally able to stand to her feet. The movement of taking the test in her hand felt like a surreal out of body experience for her. “Just don’t watch me pee. Close your eyes or something.” They had done all sorts of unspeakable things to each other but this was where Noelle was willing to draw the line. Her hands were shaking as she unwrapped the test and every second that passed made her feel more and more sick to her stomach. Her breathing was labored as she pulled down her pants. She was nearly in tears by the time she was done, placing the test back on the counter and washing her hands. Three minutes. They had three long minutes to wait before they would know if they’re lives were going to change.

Jae wanted to object. To tell Noelle that he wanted- no, needed to have his eyes on her the entire time. He even opened his mouth, ready to tell her exactly that, but the look in her eyes told him to keep his mouth shit. He could feel the anxious energy coming off of her and he was scared that if he didn’t do exactly as she said, she would completely come undone. Then he would come completely undone. So he sucked in his breath and nodded. “Yes, Mistress.” He couldn’t do much, but what he could do was do exactly what his Domme told him. 

He didn’t close his eyes, but he looked away, pressing his face into the corner where the door met the bathroom mirror in the tiny bathroom. Downstairs he heard commotion and knew it was too early for his mom to be home which meant it had to be Yas coming in for a snack before going back to her room. He listened intently to her as she placed the stick down and washed her hands, taking this as his cue to turn back around. Almost immediately, he wrapped his arms around her again, not daring to look down at the test. He set the timer on his watch and just held her. “No matter what happens...” he managed to say. “We- just-” Fuck. He couldn’t hold it together. So he stopped while he was ahead and just tightened his grip on her.

As much as Noelle could always be strong for Jae, she couldn’t do it this time. She was freaking out herself and she didn’t have it in her to pull herself to together to be his rock. Her mind was racing with a million different thoughts, particularly that she couldn’t believe she had been so stupid and had let this happen. Never in a million years did she think that she would be on the floor of his mom’s bathroom with a pregnancy test staring her in the face. She shook her head. “No, I didn’t wanna do it by myself.” Regardless of what the results would end up being, she wanted him there with her. They had always faced everything together and this situation shouldn’t be any different. “Should I take it?” The answer was yes, but if there was even a chance that he didn’t want her to take the test, Noelle was going to run with that because she had never felt so scared.

Jae just looked back and forth between the test and Noelle. He hated himself in this moment because he knew what he should be right now. He should be the one that was holing it together for Noelle like she had been for him so much in the past, but he just wasn’t strong enough. And it certainly wasn’t fair to Noelle. The truth was he was probably more scared than she was, which wasn’t fair, and a big part of him wanted him to say no. To stuff the test back into the box and just ignore this. Eventually it could catch up, he knew that, but they still had so much more of their summer left. When he was finally able to push off the wall, he stepped towards the counter, face streaked with tears and picked up the pregnancy test. “I think...” he started but stopped abruptly. It was like the words were stuck in his throat, making it physically impossible for him to suggest the right thing. It took a few moments, but eventually he managed to get it out. “I think...” he tried again, sinking onto the floor next to Noelle. He placed a hand on her thigh and forced himself to finish. “I think you should.” Jae’s voice was shaky and he was on the verge of tears again, but what was important and he felt stronger with his arms around Noelle. “I’ll be right here.”

Noelle felt bad for not saying something sooner. She had been sitting on this information for almost a week now in hopes that her cycle would just magically start even if it was nearly over a month late. In the back of mind, she had been aware that she was late but she had been having too much fun to really truly take notice. She was only slapped in the face with reality when she was looking for something in her suitcase and she found an unopened box of tampons. She had snuck out earlier in the day to take a quick trip to Walgreens to get a pregnancy test. Faced with the idea of having to actually go through with this was daunting and the furthest she could get before texting Jae was opening up the box and taking out one of the sticks. She left it on the sink counter and sat against the wall with her knees pulled into her chest. She only looked up when she heard the door open. “Hey.” She did what she could to muster up a smile but failed.

Jae wasn’t sure what to think. He stared at Noelle‘s text until his eyes went blurry, then eventually got up to meet Noelle in the bathroom. The house was eerily quiet as he slowly made his way down the hallway and his mind was racing as he tried to wrap his head around the implication of Noelle‘s late period. Thank goodness his mom wasn’t home, because there was no way he would be able to face her right now. Two deep breaths and he pushed his way into the bathroom, closing and locking the door behind him. “Hey,” he mimicked, surveying Noelle first, then the area around her. He saw the stick on the counter and immediately started to gasp for air. She didn’t say they were already in this step. The actual pregnancy test made it a little too real and while he tried to stay strong for her, his anxiety was getting the best of him. In the middle of shallow breaths, he managed to choke out, “Did you-” Then he paused to take more shallow breaths. “Did you take the test already?”

You skate a lot then? ‘Cause that’s pretty cool. And, I mean, gaming and watching anime is a very valid way to spend summer. Especially it being this freaking hot. Yeah, I am. It’s going pretty well. This school definitely knows how to do trips. How’s yours?

Oh yeah almost everywhere I go. It’s kind of why I’m just now trying to get my license. I never needed it before. That’s hella right, the heat is no joke. Seems like that’s one thing all of these schools know how to do. I think my favorite one so far though has definitely been Universal, what bout you?

Oh!!  Well that’s much better then.  I think it’s really impressive when people can figure those things out about themselves because it’s not easy at all.  Aww, that’s so great!  I’m really happy that it brought you together.

I don’t mind at all, I usually sign if the other person’s fluent in it.  I can’t wait!  I’ll be looking forward to it very much.

I guess I never thought about it like that because it all felt really easy when I was going through it. I guess that just makes me one of the lucky ones. Thank you! I’m happy we did too.

Oh okay, awesome! What if the other person isn’t fluent in it? I will too! It’s nice to meet a new friend even when I’m not there.

I’m really glad that you were able to, in that case.  Especially if you had a bad experience that really showed you the mark wasn’t for you.  Oh absolutely!  It’ll be a new challenge learning what works in a scene, but I think it’ll be interesting and exciting.  I’d really like that actually!

Oh no, nothing bad happened. I just learned that I was not a strong dominant and definitely leaned towards the submissive side of my mark. I was more at ease while submitting. And I think it helped finding my person. Mistress Noelle also retested, but from a Switch to a Dominant. If you don’t mind me asking, how do you normally communicate with people when in person? And okay cool, I’ll hit you up when I’m back on campus.

Italy is beyond a dream, the food here is liking nothing I’ve ever tasted in my life and I truly do think I can stay here forever. Though honestly there’s a part of me that can’t wait to get back to campus and start putting some of the recipes I’ve been learning to practice at Trixies Treats!

So in attempt to be ready for both summer shit, and fall semester I’m putting out a sirens call for a study group, and maybe like… Some ideas for clubs to join! I’m thinking about that new cooking club, cause it just sounds pretty chill, but other than that I got nothing so anyone that can help me out will have a friend in me forever.

Gaming club is a lot of fun. You should come hang out once we get things started.

That’s great!  You hear stories about people who don’t feel like their new mark suits them and that has to be an awful feeling.  I’m not actually sure yet how mine’s going to work out - I’m mute, so communication in a scene can be a challenge especially if I’m meant to be running it, you know?  I’m going to have to start doing that after we get back from Mexico because it sounds perfect.

Oh yeah I get that. I think for me it was the experience I had while I was a Switch that helped me settle into my new mark. Hell, it was why I wanted to retest in the first place. But there’s other ways to communicate right? Also about the beach, you should and if you don’t mind company maybe I can come hang out with you some time?

The skatepark usually. Otherwise, I’m sitting my ass at home playing video games or watching anime. Oh awesome, if it wasn’t for Noelle, I probably would have done the same. Are you enjoying it so far?
