Matrixxman - Homesick
I don’t think I’ve ever had an album keep me on the edge of my seat before. For me, Homesick demands active listening, undivided attention. Matrixxman builds a wonderful sense of anticipation from track to track without relying on the same build/drop pattern you hear in most contemporary dance music. It’s driving, rhythmic tracks are interspersed with ambient, eerie tracks like “Dejected” and “Necronomicon.” “False Pattern Recognition” feels like a musical reference I can’t quite place my finger on which is highly appropriate considering the title.
If I had to pick favorite tracks they’d be “Augmented” and “Annika’s Theme.” This feels slightly like a cop out because they were the early release tracks, but I think they deserve the extra attention. They have some of my favorite sounds in them. The cymbals on “HMU (Hit Me Up)” are also extra great.
If I remember to make a “Top Releases of 2015″ post, this will definitely be on there.
Please just listen! I’m not that great at describing music. It’s unquantifiable to me.
(Nearly all of these songs are getting added to my running playlist. I hate running, but doing it while listening to Matrixxman’s music makes me forget I’m even running.)
