…Nothing. Not even a prick of pain. Puzzled, he held the earring out in front of him and looked it over. "Hm. Well, at least it’s not a danger to me here. I hope they didn’t give me a fake." Just the idea made his blood boil.
"Thanks for agreeing to it anyway," he told Meilin as he tentatively stuck Lancelot back in his ear.
Meilin let out a sigh of relief. She didn't realize quite how nervous she was until Liu actually took the earring out, but once he did she was glad nothing happened. "You're lucky," she said. That could've ended much more badly than it did.
"You're welcome," Meilin told him, "But I'm not doing that again." The next time he wanted to try something this dangerous, he'd have to find someone else to do it with.
