The Escape/ The Mark We Leave Behind Philadelphia based band, The Escape, have a found a way to pave their work into the music industry and become well recognized for the pop punk and alternative music genre. When I was given the review, the name sounded interesting the back story of the group as well. This album was titled, The Mark We Leave Behind, and it was a truly an outstanding lyrical album. I had gotten the feelings and emotions being brought upfront from the creators and it was very loud and sweet sounding but intense. But enough about the whole speech, let’s get right into the music review for the few songs off the album. First off was a song called, The Soon Forgotten, I had gotten a sensuous of pain but integrity integrated within the lyrics to have the audience get the full experience of having the past stay in the past no matter how much we all wanna dwell within it. and fix it all. I give the tempo a major thumbs up just because I enjoyed following along with the tempo and having myself sing along to each lyric I kept listening to over and over again. This would be the song where you could follow along this song on the radio and end up hating yourself for singing it perfectly because the station wants to play it once every thirty minutes. Never a bad thing to do such but it would and could be the one track off this album that sets the album in motion for viewers to enjoy. I wouldn’t mind going up in a crowd and raising my hand in synchronizing with the band to move our hands together for the melody and harmony to come all together. Now let’s go to the next song! Here we have a three and a half minute song that depicts sorrow and being lost in a nutshell. This song, What Happened To Us, trails along the track of having people feeling completely lost and confused as to where and how this situation had put two individuals now in their lives together. They had come to the realization that wherever each other had gone, the other would have been completely thrown out of the mix and would never know where they could potentially stand and also how it could potentially break the connection they had created for so long. Even though this was a very soft and daunting song, it did have its perks of becoming a very sweet but sad song. It stemmed from its lyrics describing the two beings into their lives here and now as it follows along with the lovely progressions from the band. God, if you want excitement from an album, you definitely get the full package when listening to the third track of the album. Underwater, my initial thought and reaction was called a “fuck you,” song to the individuals who have pulled one over on the group and thought they would be able to get away with it until the end of it all. The vocalist sings about the full story of the issues that arose in their predicament and it definitely took a toll on everyone to where a song was made to explain what a major fucked up situation this has turned out to be. They built the tension in having the tempo go fast paced than the average song you’d hear on the radio and it most definitely brings the emotion to the top. The melody is catchy, the harmony is smooth and creative and the lyrics read just like a poem was being told to a group of followers that know the feeling is mutual in their take of the situation. This was a top track on my ipod for about a good three days to get my emotions called out and put into place for a better resolved predicament to be faced head on. Give it a try! You would be surprised by the impact. By the way, a big sound booming through my headphones are a big thumbs up in my book. “Living a Dream,” I heard instruments coming all at once in harmony together to make my ears become a part of the track are killer. The lyrics spoke of changing for yourself and presenting a new outlook upon your life with no interception from anyone else. Like many other artists bring that integrity into their music, I find them to give hope and passion for a better world for themselves and other as well. The bands, as a whole were miraculous; guitars brought the tempo and charisma and the drums brought the boom to draw in the crowd. My only downfall was that this song incorporated the same melody and progression, just in different tune, of the song “Meant To Live” by Switchfoot. Now that song is one of my top five songs ever and that kind of caught me off guard making me think that this another band trying to take part of an existing song and make it their own. But because I give people benefit of the doubt, I feel like it may have been just a coincidence and it was probably my thoughts getting into a tizzy. A part from that little action, I still like the song and see this definitely being performed in front of a crowd that could catch fans off guard in a good situation. Now, for the finale of the entire review, the last remaining song of the album, “Waiting.” Here now is a song that has fast tempos and a whimsical sounding tone, but here’s the kicker, the lyrics seem to not match the tone of this song. It very much catches me off guard once again. But being an artist, you have to let your audience try to listen to what you want to represent. They present the ominous life lessons of wanting to fix every problem given but know it’ll take time, so just take it slow and do what you can do for yourself in the end. I believe that’s the message they want to give out to everyone who listens in. I give the band the upper hand in doing so. So if you audience lovers out there love songs with deep, insightful messages, give them a listen to. So my lovelies, another review has been reviewed to my best attempt and I hope it helped you getting to know the band more along with understanding their personal messages given. Fingers crossed you loved this review and want more of them in the future. ***Euphoria/Basement Show: I saw much of each show description from this album. I saw Euphoria from having it being seen in front of multiples of crowded fans with the fans following along in dancing and singing each lyric with their last breath. Basement show I saw them performing for a party of people and everyone going along with feeling the power and emotion put into the songs; it would have become a live and learn lesson to share with everyone who wants a show that builds up impact.*** By: Dezi Figgs
