“Oh, lookit you, you’re a smartie!” West said excited, only partly for her benefit. He held out his hand, opening it, hoping she might take it since she hadn’t been too frightened to sniff at his pockets before.
Louise tilted her head in the other direction as her tail wagged happily again. She lunged forward eagerly to eat the piece held out for her and had a brief moment to lick her lips before she was back in his face.
Impatient and greedy, the cyberdog immediately locked her jaws onto the cloth holding the rest of the meat and started to trot away with her prize. She ducked into a small hole under a bush and stared at the human to see what he would do.
“Wha– Hey! That’s–” West grumbled a little and frowned, but didn’t shout or chase after her. He watched her, watching him.
“That’s all my food, girl. I mean that’s all the meat I have.” West shrugged and picked through his bag again. He took a bowl from his bag, that previously held noodles, and a bottle of dirty water.
“You thirsty, puppy?” He unscrewed the cap, pouring half of it into the bowl. He leaned forward, leaving the bowl a few feet away from him towards her.
Louise almost felt bad. Almost. She tilted her head as she watched him. What a weird guy, she thought. She slowly set the cloth down and readjusted herself so she could eat.
She only stopped when she was interrupted by a small bloatfly crawling under the bush with her. Louise’ collar let out a short staticky noise as she just barely remembered not to speak… The bug buzzed quietly as though it were answering her.
Instead she barked at the insect in annoyance as it helped itself to her food. She huffed and returned her attention to West and the water. She looked back and forth between the bowl and the man before creeping out once again.
He didn’t seem to be angry about her stealing. Maybe he was alright.
