Helping others is a great self-help!
Today I felt like a broken machine, lying helpless with scattered pieces. I needed someone to put the pieces back together again. But I was all alone. God seemed so distant to me, but I tried reaching out to him anyway. God please, I pray, help me resist temptation, put me back together, and take away this crippling depression. Right now I feel like a failure. I feel like there is nothing I can do to get rid of this hopelessness. I feel like I am the one who is sick and needs help, but right now, instead, I will focus my mind on how to encourage others. I will delight myself in helping others. Then somehow you will shine a light of joy into my darkness. Because I am fulfilling my purpose which you have given me. Please shine a light into my darkness and let me become a light. Amen.
Psalm 32 and porn
I was just reading Psalm 32 and it really struck me as a great message about the effects of secret sin-- such as hidden porn addictions-- contrasted with the blessedness of open confession and repentance. “When I kept silent about my sin... my vitality was drained away.” Yes, I can honestly relate to that.
But it’s a psalm of hope, not a psalm of hopelessness.
Don’t be like a stubborn animal that has to be controlled with a “bit and bridle” before he comes near to the Lord. Repent now and willingly confess your sins, seek knowledge, seek a deeper relationship with God. Take heed of the Lord’s rebuke before your sufferings are magnified. And then be amazed at the blessings he has kept in store for you.
