In less than 20 hours, I will be able to show my parents around the city of Vienna: the city that I have absolutely fallen in love with during these past eight weeks. For the next two weeks, my parents and I will be travelling around together, and I couldn't be more excited. To celebrate their impending arrival, I decided to take a picture of the most precious thing that I own: my golden buffalo necklace.
You see, my family is Belgian, and it is slang to call a Belgian person a buffalo since when they worked in the fields they would look like buffalo from afar due to Belgians having a "bigger build" (must be all the beer, waffles, chocolate, and fries). My grandfather thought this was hilarious and so, as a joke, he made 10 golden buffalo necklaces for his family. The one that I have was actually my grandfather's which was then worn by my grandmother until she passed away and willed it to me. It is now my little good luck charm for job interviews, or when I'm going through a tough time. It always makes me feel like my grandparents are watching me through it.
