jo left the lab , with the use of her abilities , when she was about fifteen / sixteen years old. she had a daughter , with her first love , when she was twenty one years old , a daughter she named hannah. she is now around twenty seven , so she’s been out of the lab for years.

jo doesn’t use her powers , hates the connotations of them & the weight of them. she does not like being reminded of her time in the lab , so she never uses her powers , & instead relies on martials arts / weapons to defend herself

jo is a trained martial artist , and relies on her body more than her abilities. she hasn’t use her pyrokinesis since she escaped the lab all those years ago , and is much more comfortable using physical means of fighting. she has turned her body into a weapon , becoming adept in numerous different fighting styles to help defend herself and to not feel as if she needs her powers. she has also trained herself in different forms of weaponry , namely guns & knives. it helps motivate her when she comes back to hawkins , and it helps her believe that whatever brenner had done to her and the abilities he’d given her does not control her life

#jo is a mixed martial artist who hasn't used her powers in abt eight years #she Refuses to #not even to heat something up #she thinks that if she starts using her powers again she won't stop #ooc.

jo’s life and identity was strictly connected to the lab. when she escaped , she had no idea what to do or how to survive. she was experiment 002 , she didn’t have a name or sense of purpose. just the i need to get away , i need to survive instinct. she met a woman named dahlia griffin while she wandered the closest road who took her away from hawkins. she was a woman traveling with her husband , frank , when they knew there was something about this teenage girl that needed saving. she refused the authorities , and they could tell she was frightened. noticing the tattoo on her wrist , they promised they’d take her away from hawkins. she was barely seventeen when she escaped. and dahlia and frank took her in like they were her own. they gave her the name josephine when it became clear she didn’t have her own , taking her to therapists to try and get her to open up. dahlia and frank are the only people jo completely trusts up until she becomes pregnant with her daughter. she became pregnant at the age of twenty , three years of being jo griffin. the father was jo’s first real relationship , having been introduced beforehand by dahlia and frank. he’s the son of a close family friend , and after about a year of dating hannah was conceived. the father & jo aren’t in a relationship anymore , but they parent their daughter together. dahlia , frank , & the father are the only people jo trusts now other than her daughter.
