I really wished they went more in depth with Mary Jane's backstory in the Raimi movies and maybe the sweaty basement dwelling armpit lickers wouldn't hate on her as bad. I can understand disliking her but holy shit at what point is it just blatant misogyny. Even only knowing the context of the movies and ignoring the comics, people are so loud and vitriolic when, once again, in strictly the context of the movie, Peter is way worse. He's a horrible friend and not a good boyfriend. I don't know how she was able to hold it together at the dinner scene because if it were me I would've lost my shit the second I walked in. And people will use the excuse that Peter's going through a lot but then turn around and act like MJ wasn't abused her entire life. No, I don't really love MJ and I don't agree with all of her actions, but people need to calm tf down, and if the damn movie would've treated her as more than a love interest and actually went in depth with her home life I feel as though it would've been better. But then again, it's just misogyny. It doesn't go the furthest in depth for Harry either, not as much as it could, regarding his father's abuse, yet he gets more of a pass than she does (though I do believe he is justified in a lot of his anger, people don't give the same passes to MJ).
